Great Trip to Punta Cana!

Stayed December 2016, traveled with family Overall had a very nice stay! Very nice resort with very nice grounds. This is really 2 resorts (Punta Cana and Dominicana). Main buildings look the same , not sure the differences besides the price. I would choose whichever is the better deal. They share all grounds, restaurants, beaches. Only difference we saw are 2 different lobbies and different buildings of rooms (Dominicana also had small 4 unit buildings). Pros - Beautiful soft sand beach that went on forever in both directions (great for walking, jogging) - Kayaks, catamarans, sailboards available - Lots of Palapas (shade umbrellas) at both beach and pool - Friendly staff, constantly see people sweeping, cleaning - Above average food at buffets and restaurants for an all inclusive - Decent variety at restaurants - Did a really nice job on New Years Eve with both buffet and entertainment. Didn't charge extra like other hotels often due on holidays. - Beach vendors were not pushy or too many in quantity. There is an area of souvenir shops close on the beach. - Was asked a few times to see Iberostar Grand Bavaro (timeshare?), but were never pushy Cons - Can be hard to get reservations. Courtesy staff seemed like they were doing you a favor to book a restaurant and often said computer was down - Resort was pretty full (high season), but many restaurants had plenty of room but they wouldn't make the reservation or let you in without one. Not sure if this was due to staffing and making sure service was good for both kitchen and wait staff - No hot tub at pools - Rooms were a little dated; Pillows weren't very good - Didn't get towels one day and took quite awhile to get them - Communication can be difficult. The staff's English overall wasn't very good except for those in lobby (e.g. front desk, customer relations).

Wonderful Vacation

The flight to Dominican Republic was not a joy, but once we arrived the vacation became a great getaway. Cheap Caribbean representatives meet us after customs we were escorted to our transportation and off we went. The Iberostar Punta Cana was everything we expected. We meet our Cheap Caribbean representative (Perla) and she gave us a briefing about conditions, what to avoid and what to do to stay healthy and safe. We took several excursions that Perla set up for us. Perla was a joy to work with, she even meet us after our excursions to make sure all went well. The food was great, with a different specific Country cuisine highlighted each night. We met Magnola, our server, and became good friends. She anticipated our wants and needs with a smile each day. The specialty restaurants were good and I had one of the best steaks I have ever had. There were many daily activities around the pool area, to many to highlight. I will say the activities staff was full of energy and happy in their work. The grounds were well maintained. The nightlife at our resort were minimal(which I am happy about) , but across the way was another resort for a more active nightlife. At the end of our stay we were once again met by a Cheap Caribbean representative who escorted us back to the airport, directed us to a knowledgeable porter who expertly directed us through the airport confusion. I am grateful to Cheap Caribbean for a wonderful, affordable vacation.

Lovely 6 days in I.P.C.

We stayed at Iberostar Punta Cana for 5 days in late Sept. 2016. We had our 4 yr old Granddaughter, Isabella with us. She absolutely loved every minute of it. In general, it is a lovely, quiet resort on the Punta Cana side...but if you like a more lively atmosphere, stay at the Dominicana which is the sister resort. Two buildings, two lobbies but the same resort. The beach/pool areas are beautiful and spacious. Food was plentiful but getting reservations at the specialty restaurants was easier said than done. Until I found Gloria at Guest Services. She gave me whatever I wanted and more. We did one excursion: a catamaran trip to Saona Island booked thru Living Punta Cana. Great people, very professional and great service. Pick up was at 7 a.m. and they were there on the dot of 7. Highly recommend them. They also use LPC as their name. Beware of the trip to see Bavaro Grand hotel, a recently built nearby hotel owned by Iberostar. They promised us $100. hotel credit which turned into coupons that we could not even use. Was supposed to be 1.5 hours and turned into 2 hours. I was not a happy camper. The room was clean and spacious but had 2 double beds, not queen with a pull-out sofa. The bathroom was badly designed with insufficient lighting, no light at all in the shower, the sink was close to the mirror that it made it difficult to use and I am average height. Whomever designed it was not a professional bathroom designer. I always find the employees of the hotel, the maids, the lower workers to be wonderful people. Our fave of Iberostar hotels is Hacienda Dominicus in LaRomana.

What's to Love

It's an all-inclusive escape on sands known 'round the world - the epic Bavaro Beach.

Saying buh bye to stress with a Shiatsu massage, Swedish sauna & facials at the spa.

Stoking your metabolism with aerobics, then destressing with yoga.

Releasing your beach munchkins to Lucy's Club while you enjoy a cocktail or five.

What We'd Change

Like most all inclusive resorts, there's a strict reservation policy for the A la carte restaurants. Still, the steaks at La Cana are worth the trouble!

Why You Should Go

It's 45 minutes from the airport. Don't get antsy, beach lovers. We see welcome drinks in your future.

There's a mangrove jungle walk with a mini-zoo for kids. Big kids might dig it, too.

You can tee off at the Iberostar Bavaro Golf & Club, an 18-hole golf course designed by P.B. Dye.

There's wave after wave of water sports: kayaking, windsurfing, diving, you name it.
