Vacation was AMAZING!!!

Resort was AMAZING!!! Neither I nor my family wanted for anything! The staff was terrific and anything I needed or wanted they were there to take care of it. Food was beyond expectations and the pools were fantastic! The only bad thing I can think of is that the power outlets were not by the bedside, so I had to charge my cell phone from across the room. That's the ONLY thing I can come up with to be at all critical. I can't wait to go back!!! If you are looking for the PERFECT vacation, Cheap Caribbean and Iberostar are the PERFECT answer!

Vacation was AMAZING!!!

Beautiful beach

This was a great vacation. Service was excellent and the beach outstanding. Only flaw was their food and drinks. Rooms were facing a jungle and could not enjoy the patio at all. Mosquitos were in abundant in the patio. One thing Amstar was awesome, excellent drivers, friendly and very punctual.

Nice resort

First I want to say, the staff at this hotel were wonderful--from bar service, cleaning crew and wait staff. The pool was beautiful, as were the grounds. The food was sub par. This is my second all inclusive and will be my last. It was very hard to find food for my picky child. Our options were bread, bread, and more bread. I contracted a nasty stomach bug on our way out and we never drank the water. I wouldn't recommend eating anything that has to be washed with water. I had to eat fruits and veggies because there is only so much bad stuff I can eat, so I think that was the culprit. I was not impressed with the rooms at all. Very musty, humid and the beds were awful. They could definitely invest in new mattresses. I just felt for an expensive all-inclusive, the beds could have been more comfortable. Overall, I give it a 4 because the staff are so attentive. One recommendation- it may say all inclusive, but TIP the staff. Remember, they aren't paid well and most have to be away from their families for long periods of time. If you can afford a resort, bring singles and $5 bills and tip the staff.

Great place!

We spent 5 nights at this resort this week and loved it. Each and every employee was very friendly, kind and courteous. Let me try and break this down: Hotel transfer: we chose AMSTAR for our transfer. I splurged on the private transport which was worth it plus my family thought it was an awesome surprise that we weren't waiting for more people to be loaded into our van (been there, done that). Check in: fairly easy process. We were there early so our room wasn't ready but they gave us our "all inclusive over 18 bracelets" and stored our bags for us so we could start exploring. Keep your swimsuits in an easy to reach pocket of your suitcase because they will give you an area to change into them. Our room was ready at 3pm as promised. Room: we had a junior suite superior. Basically two double beds and a little living area with a pull out couch plus a private patio, plus a jacuzzi tub in the bathroom. The mini fridge is stocked with water, two brands of beer, coke products and sparkling water (I had hoped for more selection, but it ended up not being a big deal). Snacks were some weird Japanese peanuts. Snacks could have been improved on and probably would have resulted in less late night room service (kids ordered hamburgs and/or chicken nuggets most nights). My biggest complaint about the rooms is the dim lighting, but again, not a deal breaker. I would recommend trying to get a room in building 63. It's in the middle of everything and you will find yourself constantly going from one end of the resort to the other depending on dining etc. Dining: We ate dinner at 3 full service restaurants. La Geisha and the Steak House were my favorite. We also ate at La Marina, which was ok. The buffets are good, but I quickly tired of seeing the same food at each meal. Some of the full service restaurants use the buffet as a salad bar as well. You just have to get creative with the buffets. Circle around and make a plan with each meal. The Mexican food offered is NOT TacoBell type food. It is authentic Mexican, so if you aren't used to that it might be a challenge. Beach/pool: The beach is really awesome, although there are some rocks in the water. But the water is so clear you can usually see them before you step on them. Kelp/seaweed was obviously cleaned up on a routine basis. The pools were gorgeous and well kept. There are several different pools and a lazy river. I had high expectations of the wait staff to keep the drinks coming but when the beach/pool was full, I found myself at the self service bar, again not a deal breaker. Early bird gets the worm at the beach and pool. When the weather was cloudy/rainy, palapas and chairs were easy to come by any time of day. Once the sun came out, sleeping until noon became a big mistake, although we were always able to find something, it wasn't necessarily where we really wanted to be. Entertainment: There is afternoon entertainment by the pool. This changes daily. The concierge at each building has a daily schedule. I recommend checking that out each day. The pool entertainment is really fun. The party is really amping up by that time of day too. Evening entertainment happens at the neighbor resort (Lindo). It's fun and the wait staff is really attentive. The show changes each night, and you will run into the entertainment staff everywhere throughout the day. They are awesome!! Getting around: the resort is complex. We arrived when it was raining, so the directions we received for moving around were all under cover. After a few days we figured out there are sidewalks that cut thru the property that are MUCH quicker. The bell boys will take you and your luggage to/from your room with a golf cart. Additionally the carts are running around all the time and will pick you up take you where you want to go. Excursions: we booked an all day excursion thru AMSTAR. I apologize but I don't remember the exact names of each place we went. The driver and tour guide were amazing!! First, we went to Tulum (Mayan ruins). If you are into that sort of thing, go for it. It sounded like a good idea, turns out we aren't really into that. A google search with photos and education would have sufficied for us. APPLY BUG SPRAY. The mosquitos are the size of hummingbirds and they are REALLY hungry. That was a deal breaker for me. If I had been warned about that, I would probably have declined the trip. Seriously. If you hate mosquitos and aren't really into this history, DO NOT take this excursion. It was also very hot and humid. I was miserable. As a highlight, when we boarded the (air conditioned) van for our next part of the excursion, we were met with ice cold washcloths to wipe down with. They stayed cold for a long time and my family passed them all to me. I was in heaven. From there, we went to some Cenotes (underground caverns) for a tour and snorkeling. BRING TOWELS FOR THIS. Make sure you have a basic understanding of snorkeling because this is not a beginner snorkeling trip. They provide the equipment, just not a lot of explanation. It was awesome though! And it's very calm so it's a great way to snorkel. Next we went to an inlet for more snorkeling. You will see fish, but no coral reef. Again, it's calm water so it's easy snorkeling but not as pretty as you might find somewhere else. Lastly, lunch was provided at a wonderful Mexican buffet (husband said it was his fav food of all). Served in a beachside restaurant. It was great. All of this cost $134 per person.
