It's a value

This place have amazing help, the food was sub par at best and my entire group got sick after the sushi hibachi grill. In this instance you definitely get what you pay for. If I get to ever go again I will for sure pay the money to go to a higher rated place.

The Dining Options Ruin It

What would be an otherwise excellent resort is absolutely ruined by the horrible dining options and constant sales pitches from the lobby staff. First, the good: The beach is nice. Somewhat small, but it is clean and accessible. There is plenty of seating. The water is lovely and there are occasional schools of bright fish to look at. The pools are great. The main activity pool area closest to the beach can be a bit overwhelming throughout the day with the music and constant games, but it is typical of the main activity area of any all-inclusive. Where this resort does well is in the number of other pools and the scale of the "quiet" pool area. There was always available seating. Everything was clean. The water was cool. The waterfall area was nice. And there are plenty of spaces for kids of all ages to enjoy the pool. The grounds are beautiful. This resort bucks the trend of simply clearcutting the entire jungle and instead incorporates a lot of it (albeit manicured) into the resort. The interior paths that run the length to the resort wind through the jungle-y areas at points, covering the path in shade. Plenty of Iguanas, Coati, birds, Agouti, Flamingos, etc make the resort fun for nature lovers and kids. The rooms are nice. I won't say its luxurious, but the reams are decently furnished, kept clean, large, and very suitable for an extended stay. The daybed in the room was perfect for our toddler to nap on, and the balcony was large. Shower was nice. Some rooms had bathtubs, others only showers (our group had two rooms, one of each type). The TV channels were OK, but it wasn't really an issue. The food in the main shopping area was great. The taco stand and the coffee shop became our main dining choices after the third day. The tacos are fresh, cooked in front of you, quickly, and there was a good chip and salsa bar there. The cafe had great sandwiches, wraps, and desserts. These two places were well out of the way, but they were the best places to eat at the whole resort. Which makes sense because they serve all of the Iberostar properties here, not just the one we were at. The Bad: The buffets are horrible. All of them. For every meal. Food was largely lukewarm. Many of the areas did not have enough utensils, so the cross contamination from one dish to another was evident. In some cases, this just resulted in people grabbing stuff with their hands which means, on a hot day, that people dripping with sweat (literally) were leaning over entire sections of the buffet to reach far items and dripping all over the other parts. The overall quality of the prepared food, aside from the the temperature and placement, was poor. Much of it was bland, generic, and wholly unappealing. After a day or so, if I had to eat at the buffet, I stuck to fruit, bread, cheese, and cold cuts. Every person in our party got sick from eating at this resort. After I spent a night throwing up, my wife spent a night throwing up, our daughter and her grandmother spent an evening on the toilet.....we were desperate to find someplace else to eat. The specialty restaurants were decent. However they are reservation only, and you only get one reservation for every 3 nights you stay, which forces you to the buffets or other options. Had this been clear when making the reservation, I would not have chosen this resort. At no point were the restaurants full, or even close to it. This limitation is what I’ve heard of at other all-inclusive and we have made a point of avoiding it. We have stayed at two other all-inclusive in the area that did not have this limitation. With the poor quality of the buffet, this is a show stopper. Also, the quality of these restaurants, for as “exclusive” as they are treated, is simply on par wth the buffet at other resorts. It is nothing exceptional. In contrast with the buffet, they seem so much better, but that is simply a matter of being compared to something terrible. The staff in the lobby was constantly trying to sell you on stuff. They harassed us to setup an appointment to come listen to their sales pitches every time we interacted with them. They called every morning trying to get you to come listen to their pitch. If you called to request anything, the person on the phone would ask when you were coming for your appointment. It really made us want to avoid the lobby altogether. The swim up bar in the activity pool was horrible. The drinks were the worst at the resort. The staff wouldn’t pay attention to anyone not speaking spanish unless you were the only ones there. Service at the pools was nonexistent. At every other resort I have stayed at, there were always people coming to take drink/food orders from guests around the pools. This would happen maybe twice a day here. And a drink would take roughly 30 minutes to come. It was very obvious that the intent was for you to go get everything yourself. Overall: It is VERY obvious that this is the cheap tier resort of the Iberostar bunch at this location. It felt like they were absolutely providing the minimum that they could get away with. You could see this anytime you were near a facility that was one of the upper level resorts next to it. They even sectioned off the beach so that the resorts didn’t mix. When we went to the little cafe and taco shop that had to be acceptable to all of their guests, the quality was obviously higher. At every point, it was obvious that we were the “low-importance” guests. Having been to several other resorts, this is the only place that ever made this obvious. And the food just completely ruins this place. I have never been happier to leave a resort than I was here. I would, under no circumstances, recommend this resort. Which is tragic, because the facility itself is so great.

Paraiso Del Mar

Don't believe any reviews from the "nay sayers". Paraiso Del Mar was great, it was a little windy while we were there so we didn't get to enjoy the snorkeling very much. The beach was as clean as it could have been especially due to wind conditions. You are swimming in the ocean so there's going to be some seaweed! The food wasn't 5 star but it was very good, and you have plenty of choices so you don't need to eat the same thing every night. The coffee bar and crepe bar over at the beach hotel was amazing! All in all a great vacation!

Great resort and a great value

Resort was well kept and clean. There are endless options for activities because the property encompasses 5 resorts in one. The pool was large and there were plenty of options for louder and more fun spaces as well as quieter and more secluded spaces. The food was pretty good for an all-inclusive, however, if staying at Del Mar you are limited to 2 restaurant reservations per room and it is somewhat difficult to walk-in (although doable with small groups of 3-4 if you're willing to wait a little). However, the restaurants we did eat in had great food and friendly, attentive servers. The drinks are good and there are more than enough options for bars both in the pool, in the lobbies, by the beach, etc. The rooms were spacious and each included a balcony. The bathrooms were also nice. The only complaint about the room was the temperature was a little hot and the A/C only goes down to 22 C. Lastly, the staff was incredible. They were friendly and accommodating. They make you feel welcome and remember you throughout your stay. Overall, I would 100% recommend this resort to a friend. I think it is both suited for large groups looking for a fun time as well as families looking for a relaxing vacation.
