Very Nice Resort

The resort is beautiful. Pools are amazing and beautifully lit at night. Beach and ample beach chairs are the only knocks. Beach has a lot of seaweed and areas in the water are rocky. Beach chairs at times are hard to come by. Entertainment was good, and though we did not have kids on this trip, the kids programs are fantastic. They really do a great job with them. Service was great.

Decent place if you like crowds

This was our first all-inclusive vacation. The Iberostar resorts are clean, well-organized, and everyone that worked there was cordial and helpful. The grounds are gorgeous, though it was mating season for the admittedly beautiful peacocks and their persistent shrill crowing at all hours got annoying, especially when a male perched on our balcony at night. For us, the place was too big. Too many people. Lots of rowdy drunks by the pool bars. EVERY chaise at the pool was taken by 7am every morning, with towels "reserving" spaces, and not a soul to be seen. When we left our towels, books and sunscreen on two chaises out at the beach and went to get breakfast, when we returned a half hour later, the black-and-white-uniformed security workers with their clipboards had taken our towels and stuff. We were able to retrieve it but found it annoying and frustrating that policing was arbitrary. Later in the week they started to pick up towels off chaises around the HUGE pool, but by then we had resigned ourselves to the windy, salt-sprayed beach. Sometimes chaises would open up around the pool later in the afternoon. Food was decent, with a wide range of selections at buffets, not surprising considering the international clientele. It was enjoyable to experiment with unfamiliar fruits and entrees. Waiters and cooks were cordial and helpful. Specialty restaurants had better food, but none of it could be considered gourmet. Very little of the chocolate products tasted of chocolate, and the orange juice had very little orange juice - more like bad Tang with pseudo-pulp. But there were a wide range of exotic juices available, and the grapefruit juice was indeed grapefruit juice. Our most interesting dessert experience was "carrot" cake - a white fluffy wedge of undeterminable content, none of which appeared to be carrot. Rooms were clean, and well-kept. TV was cheap "Iberostar" brand, but we weren't there to watch TV. Our minibar fridge never cooled the beer, water and soft drinks - even after a day they were barely cooler than room temperature. We asked to have the 'fridge replaced, which was done quickly and cordially, but the replacement was no better. We would have to put anything we wanted cold on ice. Beds were good-condition pillow-top, but pillows are rock-hard foam, with no other options. Our concierge was attentive and helpful as long as we had not sat through his sales pitch for the Iberostar Club and his other opportunities to earn commissions. We had no intention of ever visiting Iberostar resorts around the world, but our concierge was insistent. We still demurred, and his attitude fell flat after our dismissal. Be warned that it's long walks to everything. There are occasional golf carts running where you can hitch a ride, but plan to bring good footwear. Another tip: we brought $100 in singles, and tipped everyone. It wasn't much money in the scheme of things, and it improved our reception and service dramatically - even from already happy-appearing employees. I'm certainly not naive, but always a bit surprised some reviewers only complain. "No Grey Goose!" "Horrible food!" This is a nice resort, a bit pricey, but call liquor selection was good for price point, beer was Dos Equis, and you could find decent food for nearly any palate. But we spent a week in Manhattan eating incredible food, seeing Broadway shows, and doing everything for less than half the total cost of this vacation, which should tell you something...it made us wonder what "expensivecaribbean" might cost. The only other comment I have is about flights. Our flights were changed four times from the time we booked, moving departure times earlier each time, over which we had no control. We don't blame the packager, but it meant we left our resort at 2am. The recommended transfer agent got us to the Cancun airport at 2:30 for a 6:20am flight, and left us - an hour before the airport opened. That was annoying and made for an exhausting 15-hour travel day.

Horrible experience

We are a family of 5, two adults and 3 children ages 17, 16 and 10. We were doing our last spring break as a family as my son is preparing to play football for the United States Naval Academy in the a few short months. We normally vacation in Florida, as we are from Michigan and anything is warm and refreshing in April. We decided to do an "all inclusive in Mexico". After months of research and viewing MANY properties we decided on the Iberostar Paraiso Beach Resort. We knew that this was NOT a top, diamond resort. We were looking for a larger property that the 3 kids would be able to have fun and entertain themselves with a great beach and pool. We stumbled across the Iberostar Paraiso Beach. The property is beautiful. The property is HUGE. The Pool is amazing and great. When we arrived we were very pleased....all until we had to eat. The buffet restaurants were inedible. There was not one thing you could eat that did not make you absolutely sick to your stomach. The breakfast provided a wide variety of fruit that was slippery and old and had a acid taste to it. The milk was warm. The coffee tasted like tar. The bread was stale. The eggs were orange. Not to mention the smell of the place. You could not get any bottled water. The alcohol was off brand and cheap. You could not drink any mix drinks because it was the cheapest liquor ever. The beer, was only draft tasted musty. They must have never cleaned the taps. The wine tasted like furniture varnish. The lunch and dinner buffet was the same. I could go on for hours about the food and it still would never not be able to give you an honest glimpse of how it was. They had a sushi bar with a large spread of sushi. I was so excited, as that is my favorite! I almost threw up after I swallowed my first bite. It was so disgusting. The "restaurants" they claim to have were IMPOSSIBLE to get into and when you did get to go, it was still pretty much buffet style with "better' nasty food. OK. I cannot go on about the food, it makes my stomach turn all over again. So, in a nutshell my family was in starvation mode by day 4. There was a great little taco hut in the shopping plaza that was included. The staff: OK...very helpful and nice HOWEVER.......if you stay at the Paraiso Beach, you are stuck at the Paraiso Beach and you are NOT allowed to go to any other resort. IF you do, you will be told to leave and made to feel like a peasant......even though you are not told you cannot use any other facilities. There are uniformed people to ensure you do not enter enemy territory. Makes me wonder if the "poor people" in the Paraiso Beach were given the left over food from the other "rich people" resort. By the way, we spend A LOT of money....the cost of this trip was NO cheap, but it was WAY over priced for what we got! NOW let me talk about the staff that approach you every time you walk through the lobby......So, they want to take you on a "breakfast" and show you the "other properties"....I knew it was a timeshare speech, but we decided to go, so we could get some better food. We were whisked away and taken to the Mayan for breakfast (the resort 2 down from ours). We ate a breakfast that was not much better than ours, but we were given some other food choices which was nice. We were promised it was NO longer than 90 minutes and we would receive $150 in Iberostar cash which we wanted to use at the Xel-ha excursion we were going to book for the next day. The kind gentleman who signed us up, told us to come see him after and he would help us use our Iberostar cash for the excursion. After 90 minutes at the "sales presentation" we kindly told the salesman we were not interested. We were told that we had to stay until the end to receive the $150 cash, at the 2 hour point, they finally realized we were not going to purchase anything and we had NO intention of purchasing. They went from being kind and concerning to RUDE and annoyed. Then when we arrived back to the resort and looked for the nice gentleman that signed us up, he must have gotten the word we did purchase. He would not help us find the excursion desk, he was rude and ignored us. The beach.....FULL of nasty seaweed that smelled....The water when you got past it, was beautiful... Upon checking out, we were scolded for not having out towel cards (cards you receive to turn in at the pool for towels). We tried to explain our towels were turned in daily (who would want them...they were tattered and very small) but the card was not returned to us. We forgot. He accused us of stealing them. I assured him that the 3 foot, tattered towels were not worth the luggage space.

Large and wonderful

This was a great resort. It was large and you never felt crowded around the pool or the beach. The staff was great and the rooms clean and well kept. Lobby's were beautiful, we were on the Del Mar side. There are golf carts to take you around the resort for extended walks. The food was great, I would strongly recommend the Japanese grill, what a great show and food was excellent. Shopping center right on site, cafe, and crepe shop as well as a taco bar. I will return to this resort in the future without any hesitation. We travelled with a 4 families with early teenagers who had fun, were entertained by the pool games and loved this resort as well. We have found Iberostar resorts to be our family favorite.
