Loved it but some adivce
We just came back from 6 days at Iberostar Hacienda Dominicus on Nov 9th. I'll start off by saying it was an amazing vacation but I'll offer some advice. We booked through CheapCaribbean.com and got transfers from Santo Domingo. I've read all the reviews from the past 6 months, and they were pretty spot on, the transfer takes about 2 1/2 hours. Honestly, it was a long day after flight and transfer but it wasn't too bad. If you can, fly into La Romana airport, but not sure which US airline flies there.
Check-in went smoothly and every member of the staff wore a smile on their face. Our room was in Bldg 5, closest to lobby, restaurants, food, and furthest from beach, but we really liked our location. It wasn't noisy and was close to everything. The rooms were nice, big shower, good furniture, and cozy little balcony. FYI, because I couldn't find this info from past reviews, they have 110V outlets.
NOTICE: The food is different! It isn't bad, but its not what you would typically find in US resorts (first time traveling international so I can't compare to other international resorts) However, the buffet was decent and there was always something to find to eat. My wife, who is a bit picky, did take a day or two to get accustomed to the food. Breakfast was one of the best meals, with an omelet station, fresh fruit, cereal, etc. We had 3 reservations and ate at the Geisha (hibachi), Steakhouse, and Colonial (upscale dining). We thoroughly enjoyed every single one! No complaints.
Ok now to the best part of the resort... the entertainment team or Star Friends... by far these people do an amazing job, morning till night, nonstop, with a smile on their faces! We loved Nicolas SOS, he speaks so many languages, and we loved taking Spanish class with him. He always welcomed us and really connected with people. The rest of the group were amazing, also. I can't remember all of their names, which I apologize, but of course their is Lady Gaga, very funny character. They were not pushy, but would try to get people to do activities if they wanted, and let your guard down a little. My wife and I not only took Spanish class, but water aerobics, snorkeling, dancing lessons, ping pong, beach volleyball, and took part in their fiestas. We also went to the shows at night, which were a little repetitive but entertaining nonetheless. Great singers and dancers every night.
I do want to make note that every single member of the staff do their best with English, but they don't understand everything. Keep in mind, American tourists were definitely the minority here, as there were many Germans, Russians, Italians, you name it, but I found everybody to be very nice and accommodating.
The pool was nice and big and the beach was beautiful. The pool and beach bar were very nice, my wife fell in love with the Pina Coladas, also try the Mama Juana (lol). The beach seemed to fill up the fastest, but we were able to get a hut (forget what they're called) before 10am. The huts at the pool seemed be open much later. The water at the beach was beautiful, a little wavy, but not rocky at all! There are some little rocks and shells at spots, and like 2 big rocks but compare this to the Jersey shore and this is nothing! There is also a man-made reef not too far off the beach, where I was able to snorkel and find several different kinds of fish, just not very colorful.
Overall we loved it, and would love to go back in the future! Feel free to contact me with any questions.
It is my first time using CheapCaribbean. It was a great experience. Booking was easy and when I had questions the CheapCaribbean staff provided adequate answers. I could not believe how cheap the price was. No problem with the airline. We used American Airlines, but I would prefer to use Jet Blue. Jet Blue provides food and free internet. Tip: Try to book a nonstop flight. We had to make a stopover in Miami which was ok, but I'd prefer to just get to my destination. The pick up by Oympus Tour Group at the airport in DR was on time and thorough. For example, in the van they picked us up in we had 3 other couples. After we dropped off the first couple at the first resort, the driver had us look in the trunk to make sure our bags were still in the trunk, that the couple we dropped off did not take our bags by mistake. I thought that was a nice gesture. I highly suggest when booking this trip to add the pick up by Olympus Tour Group. The drive from the airport in Santo Domingo to the resort in Punta Cana is 1.5hrs. The roads are a big tricky so a driver is needed. The Iberostar Resort was beautiful. The beach had calm clear blue water and white sand soft and easy to walk on. The beach depth was pleasant, allowing me, 5ft 4in, to be able to walk in the water for 100ft into the ocean and still be able to touch the floor of the beach. It seems the resort placed sand their to control the depth of the water. The pool was relaxing, which had a bar within the pool. The room was spacious and always clean. The beds were comfortable. All the drinks within the room and room service was free, meaning it was included in All-Inclusive Deal. Now lets talk about the All-Inclusive: everything was included: 1hr of snorkeling daily, 1hr of kayaking, buffet, speciality restaurants (for the specialty restaurants you just needed to make a reservation which is simple to make. At your Hacienda there is a main hall were a resort representative is located. He will make the reservation for you), alcoholic drinks, all drinks. And the staff did not expect a tip, but I tipped a dollar here and there. The staff was also very nice! Helpful and always cheerful. They always encouraged the people at the resort to get involved in the activities which turned out to be very fun. We attended the beach aerobics and the fiesta on the beach which were very entertaining.
Book with cheapcarribean and go to iberostar. you will be very happy and have wonderful memories. I know i did with my gf.

Best girls vacation ever!
Before I begin telling you what a wonderful time we had at the Iberostar Hacienda Dominicus, please let me say we will never again travel Spirit Airlines to get there! If we had known about their service before we booked our vacation, Iwe would have chosen just about any other option to get there! We were almost hysterical when the flight leaving home was cancelled at the last minute for maintenance issues without any forthought about what to do with an entire airplance full of customers trying to leave town! Four hours later we were on our round about way via Delta Airline but we lost an entire day at the resort and had to spend a night in Ft. Lauderdale under a tornado watch!
As horrible our experience with Spirit, the Iberostar Hacienda Dominicus completely justified the vacation! From the inviting cold fruity drinks given to the three of us at the front desk as we checked in a day late, to the efficient staff wisking us away to a room within minutes despite not knowing we were on our way and helping us set up an extra bed immediately so we could finally rest our travel weary selfs - we knew we had made the right choice of where to stay.
The grounds are lovely and impeccably maintained. The pools are clean, warm and inviting. The beach was absolutely lovely. The restaurants are well stocked and the food available to us constantly was delicious and fresh with a good variety of tastes daily and lots of fresh international as well as local cuisines. There were tons of resort activities for everyone to participate in if they chose, excursions to book if you wanted to go off sight (totally enjoyed the catamaran excursion!), lounge chairs all around the pool and beach for those of us who wanted to relax in the sun, drinks available at every turn (don't miss the mamajuana!), tons of evening entertainment and a fun little discoteque...
The only advice I have would be - bring SPF100 (the sun is seriously hot to midwestern skin), either speak a little Spanish or bring a pocket translator (as the resort staff often speak languages other than English but not good English although they try their best), be careful taking any children to the evening performances as they tend to be a bit risque, and be tolerant of smoking as the resort has many European clientel who are not restricted as to where they can smoke.
Overall, we enjoyed it all immensely. We appreciated the attentive staff and were sorry to have lost that extra day we were supposed to have been there when we had to leave!
This was our third Iberostar trip. It won't be out last. They consistently provide a quality service and product. Great all-inclusive company.
The food was solid all things considered.
Breakfast: Omelet guy had a tendency to overcook my eggs. This perhaps a result of the language barrier.
Lunch: Salads rarely provided anything other then iceberg or cabbage as your base leaf. No wild greens, every now and then you saw spinach. Not sure why. I didn't experience this on other Iberostar trips.
Dinner: Was consistent and had lots of variety.
Pool: Great! Good size.
Beach: Beautiful but very steep near water. Water was warmer then the pool.
Entertainment: Weak, but wasn't important to me.
Fitness Center: Very disappointed. However, a new fitness center is slated to go in within the upcoming year.
Grounds: Beautiful as usual
Service: Great as usual

How do I go about reserving the specialty restaurants?11 answers
I wanted to know how I could get into the gourmet restaurants. I don't mind buffets, but we'd like to have a really nice dinner during our stay. Thanks!
2 years, 34 months ago
That's a great question! The gourmet ala carte restaurants (El Colonial, La Geisha, and La Hacienda) fill up very quickly, so it's best to make the arrangements as soon as possible. The Concierge is located in either building 4 or 7 and they are usually there from 8:15am-2pm, however, this does vary. It's best to check with the front desk upon check-in to get the most up-to date schedule.
The restaurants are a must, the food is amazing!
there are 4 specialty restaurants, you can book them the next morning after you get to the hotel, they can give you times and days for all four of them there.
You can make up to 3 reservations in advance for either restaurants.Reservations are accepted until early afternoon(I don't remember exactly what time!)you can always check with reception.
You are able to make 3 reserevations for the specialty restaurants when you arrive at the property.
There is a conceirge in each building or you can call Guest Services to arrange reservations to each of the 4 specialty restaurants. Do that as soon after you arrive as you can as they only have a few sittings per night. The Colonial is very nice, we had lobster. The Mexican is ok, different than what we have in Arizona but good not too spicy. The Japanese is very HOT, they cook everything in front of you and it can get really steamy in there! The steakhouse is ok but we found steaks very tough but the rest of the meal was good, there are options on the menu to steak which I recommend.
Your room will be located in a Hacienda which is just a fancy name for a building. Within your Hacienda there is a main hall. It has a high ceiling, spacious, and decorated with beautiful pottery. In the Main Hall there is a resort representative with a computer that can make you reservation for you.
In most of the hotel room buildings there is a desk located on the bottom floor with a staff member ready to take your reservations. They have all of the menus for you to look at. They are usually there from about 10:00 to 2:00 give or take a half hour.
The minute you get to the hotel ask at reception, they book up very quick and are only slightly better than the buffet
You book it when you arrive. You can even book multiple reservations for different nights in advance. The only thing is, you can't book them at the front desk. They are booked in the lobby of building 4. We were in building 3 so it wasn't a big deal at all.
You go to building one in the am on your way to the beach. You can reserve the whole week in one stop. We had to wait ten minutes for a reservation but that was the longest time. The worst I saw was 3 people in line we were second.
You need to reserve between 8:30 and 2 in building #4. Try to book at least 24 hours in advance because the spots go fast.
How far is the hotel located from the airport?11 answers
1 year, 19 months ago
This resort is located and hour and a half from SDQ airport.
The LaRomana airport is about 20 minutes away by car. We flew into Santo Domingo which is 2 1/2 hours away. Nice ride though, you get to see the country side and road is good. Drivers usually speak enough English to give you a history of the area and answer questions you may have.
1.5 hours by car.
It is about a 1 1/2 hour drive. Mostly highway driving. We had to drop off one other couple on the way and it only took a few minutes.
1 hour 45 minutes
2 hours form Santo Domingo, 1/2 hr from La Romana.
2.5 hours from santo domingo intl.
If you're flying into Santo Domingo (SDQ), it's about a 2 hour ride. I've heard there is an airport that's closer (about 20 minutes away) but I haven't looked into which airlines fly there.
From Santo Domingo, I estimate it to be about 50 miles. It can take 1 - 1.5 hours to travel, depends on how many drop offs.
1hour 45 minutes from the main airport
The trip from the airport is 1hr 40 minutes. Seams like a long time but goes quickly. You get to see the country side on the way.

Cheap Caribbean does offer round trip transfers to and from the airport for this resort that can be added onto the reservation at an additional cost.
I would book the transportation with the trip, saves a lot of time. The minute we landed, our transportation was waiting for us. If you book with cheapcaribbean, your ride will most likely be holding up a cheapcaribbean sign as oppose to your name or the name of the resort.
yes. I bought my transportation ahead of time and it was operated by a tour company. I flew into Santo Domingo
We booked our hotel/airport transfers through CheapCaribbean.com
The representatives were outside and easy to find. They were freindly and quick and we were in a van driving to our hotel in minutes.
When you book your trip always add the transportation. The Cheap Caribbean representative is more than helpful. He met us at the airport showed us to our driver and took care of our luggage. When we returned from the hotel another agent met us at the door logged us into our flight Took care of our luggage and was so nice.
We booked transportation through the web site Cheap Carribean. The transport is waiting for you ast the airport,
Yes, there is transportation form the airporrt. If you fly into Santo Domingo, Iberostar is 1hr and 30min away form the airport.
Can excursions be purchased at the lobby when I arrive there? Or is it recommended to buy along with final booking? Any price difference?7 answers
1 year, 16 months ago
Excursions can always be purchased at the concierge desk in the resorts, while booking your reservation, or added onto the booking at least 72 hours prior to departure.
You can purchase excursions at the lobby. I would recommend doing that because if you have a girlfriend like mines, she can probably haggle on the price :)
I would look ahead of time. Not all tours are available every day, such as the trip to Santo Domingo, only twice a week. But there are a variety of tours offered at the lobby by a number of tour agencies.
You can purchase at the lobby. I'm not sure if there's a price difference but you will definitely know where to go. They try and sell them to you before your feet hit the property. Don't do horse back riding. It's in a sugar cane field. It's awe full.
Yes you can purchase excursions at the hotel lobby. Highly reccomend the cheap caribbean representitive Santiago.
Yes, you can buy them at the lobby and it is cheaper.
Yes, you can purchase excursion at the lobby with one of the cheapcaribbean representatives. You coul dpossibly get the excursion for a little cheaper...if you know how to talk people down a bit.
Ocean front rooms available?3 answers
Which building is ocean front on the beach? How many stories is the building, and is their a elevator in th building. If we identify this building when making our reservation, will it be a problem to have our rooms reserved in this building?
Cape Girardeau , Mo.
CheapCaribbean.com is not contacted to book oceanfront room categories as this option can only be purchased directly through the resort. You can certainly inquire about upgrading to an oceanfront room category upon check in at the resort.
There is only one building that is truely ocean front. #4. There wasn't an elevator in my building, not sure about the others. 5 stories. Don't know about the reservsations/ We did not have that option. We had pool view.
I have limited mobility and asked to be close to pool and beach. We were given a room in building 4, which is closest to both. They do not have elevators, but we had a ground floor room. You will have the longest walk to the buffet and restaurants, but you will be by the beach.
Dining-are you limited to 3 reservations, or this just availability?3 answers
I know we are guaranteed 3 reservations, but can you just go and wait at the restaurants?

A la carte dining guarantees are based on number of nights booked, for example: 1-3 night stays, guests will receive 1 reservation guarantee in the a la carte restaurants; 4-6 night stays, guests will receive 2 reservations guaranteed in the a la carte restaurants, etc.
Guests may check daily with public relations from 9am-11am and from 4pm-5:30pm regarding reservation.
We were guaranteed two per the duration of our stay, but asked to make three, and it wasn't questioned.
after 2 p.m. when reservations close, we were allowed to request reservations beyond our guaranteed ones and we were able to get them for each of the four.

Is it true that kids under 10 are not allowed into any of the 4 restaurants?3 answers
2 months ago
Per the information supplied to us by the resort, children under 10 are not allowed into the El Colonial Restaurant. Other than that particular restaurant, we have no other restrictions listed. However, policies can change at any time, so we would recommend checking with the resort directly closer to travel for their most up to date policies.
no is not true because i have a 7month baby and she was with me in both restaurants that i attended
This is not true.
Kids are allowed into 3 restaurants every day and one restaurant has special days for kids - Monday and Thursday.
