Customer service

Upgraded to the prestige, excellent service. The service and amenities that come with the upgrade are definitely worth it. Neomi was awesome and very accommodating. She went out of the way to help us with everything and it was super appreciated. The resort was huge and there was always something delicious to snack on. We didn't try the Mexican restaurant but we did try the Brazilian and Japanese restaurants and both were two thumbs up, amazing food!! No stomach issues. The one complaint I had was the local vendors on the beach. It was borderline harassment and they wouldn't let up. It came to the point we didn't want to go to the beach because of it. I understand they are trying to make money but I'm on my honeymoon, really don't like having to be disturbed 15 times an hour while sitting on my beach chair. Also make sure you bring bug spray!!! It's nature people nothing the resort can do. The room was a little damp but your 100ft from the ocean so what else would you expect.

Good place,

We have been to several all-inclusive resorts but primarily in Mexico. We traveled as a family of 5 (kids 18, 17, 13) and upgraded both of our connecting rooms to beachfront for additional charge. Hint - Upgrading room is usually less expensive upon arrival than paying for it online depending on availability. I haggled them down from $300 to $200 total for both rooms and it was well worth the view and pool noise level in my opinion. The primary positives: clean room, good air conditioning in room, good shower pressure/heat (which can be a rarity), spacious room, so was excellent, decent spa prices on massages (use $25 coupon) and only $2 per hair braid (daughter loved it), all Staff was friendly and accommodating, absolutely fantastic shade at beach/pool, plenty of shaded lounge chairs by pool. Negatives: pool was so loud with tons of kids (July) - I was disgusted by parents dipping their babies in pool without swim diapers (just 2 but 2 too many for me), swim up bar was packed in afternoon - you literally had to yell to bartender to get a drink, they need a waiter or waitress on beach offering drinks, parents/kids just yelling and plain loud/rude, ocean water so-so a lot of sea weed though. We went on 2 excursions - half day snorkeling at Sosua Beach (gorgeous water/beach) which we did with an outside local - it was a bit scary at first because we didn't know what to expect but turned out excellent! Other excursion was Dunn Buggies, with same outside local - again a bit scary at first but we had a ball. We all got filthy, rough ride, drove through poverty stricken towns (which was an education) up trails through a mountain to beautiful ocean. Be aware - They take you to little spots where they want you to spend money on drinks and jewelry. Locals were great! It was a great memory for my kids. All in all good trip but again I did not like the pool at all because of loud overcrowding. Food good - typical of an all inclusive. 3 restaurants worth going to. Nightly entertainment was pretty good with same dancers most nights different theme. Wished they had more variations each night. I would not go back primarily because it was completely Spanish speaking and I could not get over the crowd. I realize it is supposed to be hot in the summer in DR but I like my eating areas air conditioned. I know I'm a bit picky but I hate to sweat while waiting on a buffet line or simply eating my meal in a dining room. Ceiling fans everywhere which helped but on my next trip I will be looking for more comfortable eating surroundings. Would not go back primarily because I like to try different places.

The food was very bland , the pool bar had only one bartender for everyone at the pool. The bartender did the best he could. Management doesn't want to hire more help. No room service plus it would of been a waste of food due to it being horrible. I would never go back to this hotel.

Ok stay

The people are friendly but not as friendly as other places ive been. I felt A bit pressured to spend 90 minutes of my time to be talked into a time share for this resort, and in return a free massage. There wasn't any good shopping right on the resort. Only a star market with a few necessities, and a couple other highly priced jewelry stores. All I wanted, was a few souvenirs like T-shirts and such to bring home. I had to go off the resort in order to do this . The food was mediocre. Maybe I would've felt better about the food if there weren't birds and flies swarming it at all times. Needless to say, I did have a relaxing week but on a very hungry stomach! While talking with others, I heard Iberostar in other countries has good ratings, but this particular one I wouldn't stay at again, in fact, based on this experience, i would be skeptical to stay at this resort again anywhere else!

What's to Love

It's an all-inclusive relax-a-thon on the golden sands of Costa Dorado.

The Turkish bath, and hot stone massages at the stress-smashing spa.

Dropping off the kids at Lucy's Club (ages 4-12) - they draw & read while you play.

Golfing at the 18-hole Playa Dorada Beach & Golf Club that's five-minutes away.

What We'd Change

The guest rooms do not have Internet access, and there is a small fee for access in the hotel lobby. But who goes to Puerto Plata to work on the computer, anyway?

Why You Should Go

It's 20 minutes from the airport - your Dominican dream vacay will begin presto.

This place is all about water sports - kayaks, canoes, Hobie cats and more.

There's a casino for the riskier beach lovers.

For the land lovers, there's tennis, volleyball, a fitness room and more.
