Relaxing Getaway
Great resort for a relaxing getaway. Resort staff extremely fun and welcoming. Pool was a perfect size and clean. Room's were clean and comfortable. It would be a great addition if they added a hot tub to their ammendities!
I was disappointed in the rooms. They smelled musty and aggravated my sons asthma. We had to open the patio doors to air out every time we went back to the pool. No vents in bathroom and make sure to bring convertor for outlets. The food was excellent. Pool was great. Would have love a pool bar and wait staff to come around to get you drinks. We enjoyed our last vacation at Iberostar in Jamaica much better. We would not come back to this hotel. On the day of reviews for staff alot of pressure to give very good reviews and not what you really want to put down
I've vacation in many of the Caribbean Islands and have loved all of them, never one complaint.................. Until NOW:
The Iberostar Costa Dorada, what a disappointment. This is "suppose" to be rated a 4+ star hote......... NOT, whomever rated this hotel has no idea what a 4+ star hotel is. My family and friends were completely disappointed, we did NOT feel safe in Puerto Plata, the food was horrible, our rooms................ OMG you have no idea! I should have just thrown $5000 out the window. And as for my 16 yr old daughter, it scared me - they were looking at her as if she was dinner. Just terrible. So live and learn.
I hear Punta Cana is nice and not like Puerto Plata - but honestly after my first (and obviously last) experience in the DR, there is no way in the world I would ever go back.

There are several bars and restaurants, however only one disco called Route 66 which is open at 11 PM until 2AM, hours are subject to change.

They have 1 disco inside the resort and it stayed opened till 2am. There was never a lot of people in the disco.
burke
none on the resort. However there was one close by. did not go
meandmypoppy
There is a disco on site with free drinks. Open 11pm to 2 am.
Nice place, "Route 66" with a classic American theme and assorted pop, bachata and merengue. I didn't see any locals there. There is also a disco in the Casino next door and at Ocean World but I didn't get to those.
I had a local guide show me 3 clubs for $30 and $10 worth of gas from 9-12 pm. It was fine until he started hitting on me. Rancho Tipico is a good casual local spot with dancing.
You may want to inquire about a "Night on the Town" tour to the clubs in Puerta Plata and Sosua. They stopped doing it but if enough people ask, maybe they will start again.

There is one disco, not sure how late it stays open.

Rout 66, until 2AM
AstronautFromTuvalu
ther is a disco called the 66 club in the resort. but there is another disco and casino just to the right of iberostar. literally a 15 yard walk called pure, that looked a bit more exciting.
Slappy
Route 66 open from 11pm-2am
krs1
They have one disco called Route 66 that is just off of the lobby bar. I think it was open until 2am, but we only went in around 10:30 pm one night and there were only a few people there at that time. I think most nights people make their way over after the show around 11pm. Some nights we could hear the music and it sounded like it was really going off, but strangely that was on like a Wednesday or Thursday night, not a Friday or Saturday.

The club in the resort is open till 2am I believe. Exactly outside (within a 3 mintues walk) from the resort there is a nightclub that is open later.

What activities are available on the beach-do they provide rafts/boogie boards?

snorkelling, as well as windsurfing and kayaking – all free of charge on property.
KellyCC
It rained a lot so we didn't get to do any water sports.
Merryway
They have kayaks, sailing, snorkeling, beach volleyball and daily activities that the resort runs.
sdaint223
kayaks and catamarans
AstronautFromTuvalu
they do have catamarans you can use. i did not see any boogie boards but did see some ocean kayaks.
Slappy
They have kayaks, canoes, hobie cats, and wind-surf boards - all available for guest use between the hours of 9am - 4pm. I think they have motorized water crafts as well but I believe those cost extra. They offer day excursions for snorkeling at an extra cost as well, and PADI certification/training as well. On they beach they also have beach volleyball, frisbee, dance lessons, archery, and air gun shooting.

We had to buy our own rafts in the gift shop. I saw windsurfing equipment but I'm sure that comes as a fee

Hotel Description
Iberostar Costa Dorada: Relax Between an Ocean and a Hard Place
Positioned along the famed Costa Dorada, or "Gold Coast," of the Dominican
Republic, Iberostar Puerto Plata is your starting point for adventure. The
three-mile tourist strip of Puerto Plata draws a half-million annual visitors,
and the all-inclusive Iberostar Costa Dorada is right there. You'll see
spectacular views of the Atlantic to the northeast and Pico Isabel de Torres, a
mountain nearly 2,624.67 ft high, to the west.
The tropical waters draw most folks who dream of paddling a kayak across the
surf, or sailing a catamaran through the waves. Get started through the
resort's Watersports Center. On the other hand, there's another world just
below the surface. Snorkeling or scuba diving to the southeast brings you face
to face with exotic fish. Then again, you may prefer the comfort of the
free-form hotel pool. Meandering among the nine three-story guest room
buildings, this huge pool encircles the hot tub. If you want a little sun, lean
back on one of the padded lounges and sip an ice-cold mojito or margarita.
Aside from the bar, the open-air lobby's most popular seating adjoins a
flamingo pond, where the graceful birds mesmerize guests.
Want to play a game of pool or billiards? At Iberostar Costa Dorada, you can
feel and smell the fresh sea breeze while you play in an open-air hut with
thatched roof. Star Friends provides lots of other activities for landlubbers,
from yoga and archery, to shooting tournaments and table tennis. All this
activity works up an appetite; head to El Rodizio for a Brazilian-style
steaming beef or chicken. Other choices include two a la carte restaurants, one
featuring Mexican and the other Caribbean specialties. No reservations are
required for El Mercado, the resort's buffet restaurant.
At Lucy's Club, kids, ages 4 to 12, can play with kids from around the
world. Attentive staff in colorful costumes supervise and entertain. So, mom
and dad, you can play, too! And after dark, the casino and moonlit gardens will
be waiting for you.
When it's time for sweet dreams, head to the comfortable Standard Room.
You'll have everything you need for a spectacular vacation at Iberostar Costa
Dorada.
