If you're staring at the TV and seeing swaying palm trees and a gentle blue ocean instead of another sitcom, you know it's time for a vacation. Choose Hotel Marina El Cid in Riviera Maya, where you'll find those palm trees and blue ocean, as well as warm breezes and a private beach of lovely white sand, soft as your favorite blanket.

Really nice place to go to relax or have a party
The resort is very nice. A pretty quick drive or ride from the Cancun airport. The rooms are big but I wasn't a fan of the mattress. It was a little firm for my taste but that wouldn't stop me from saying it is a nice place. I would have liked a more scenic view (rm 18207). We were looking into trees and down at a small pond/mangrove area. It did give us a little privacy so that part is good. We did pay for an upgrade through cheapcaribbean and I'm not really sure we got the "extra" we paid for. I think next time I would save my money at this location.
They kept the beach up nicely and the pool was very nice. This is a "smaller" resort. When I say that, I would guess it holds 800 to 1000 people. This in itself has its pros and cons. The pro; nothing is very far away from your room! You can take a leisurely walk and get from one side of the resort to the other in five minutes. The con; the food is what I would consider pretty average. We tried each of the three restaurants for dinner while there and I was disappointed in each. The buffet is decent and has a pretty good selection. The highlight to me was the grill. You can get a nice piece of chicken, steak or even a hamburger made to order.
My wife and I were hoping for a few less children running around but if that is what you are looking for, they do have a nice set up for kids.
Ok, I have pointed out some of the less desirable traits. Now lets look at the good. They are a mile down the road from Puerto Morales. It is a nice little town. If we would have known we would have gone down there to book our snorkeling and a fishing trip. You can walk there or take a cab for $10 and you can save $100. Also, if you need sunscreen and want a few of the "normal" gifts. This little town is the place to go. It cost us a fraction of what we saw anywhere else on this trip or our last time in Mexico 4 years ago. We picked up two hammocks (which I do believe is a requited purchase when visiting Mexico) for under $50 for both! In many places that is what you pay for one. The town is friendly and has a nice little church if you are looking for services to attend while on vacation. Don't expect to spend a day shopping there because it just isn't that big. But how many tshirt shops do you need to see on one shopping trip. One HUGE thing here. My wife really doesn't like the "hard sell" stores you find other places. If you have visited Mexico before or many other of the Caribbean countries the little shops have people who would pull you into the store if given the chance. This little town has that type, but not NEARLY as aggressive. And plan on bargaining. You don't have to pay the marked price. I personally like seeing how good of a deal I can get. I know some don't.
Back to El Cid.......I say GO! Enjoy yourself. Get a nice sunburn like we did! Lay in the hammocks they have under the palm trees. Overall they do a very nice job keeping the place clean. They supply plenty of places to drink. The rooms are clean and the staff was nice.
I am not 100% sure if I'll ever be back. But I love to see new things. New places and experience everything I can. But if I am looking for a nice place that I can count on for a nice visit, Cl Cid will be in contention for my business.. .

Hubby said this was his best vacation ever
I put this surprize 30th aniv. together for my hubby and he loved it. This is the first time going on an all inclusive mexican vavaction so we have nothing to compare to. The hotel housekeeping sent special things to our room for our aniv. like champainge, decorated chocolate covered strawberries and made special decorations out of towels and rosepedals. The food was delicious everywhere we went and we were fortunate to get reservations 3 out of the 4 nights. God gave us sunshine and not too hot days to enjoy this country. The free kayaking was fun too.
The only reason for this not to be a "5" is not having free wifi, having to where a wristband and needing dinner reservations. the original room we would have gotten would have been disappointing for our occasion, but El cid easily upgraded to an ocean view for a fee.
We returned to our "home" in the Riviera Maya this Spring Break and brought family with us this time.
Once again, all was wonderful EXCEPT getting the room we had reserved and paid for. For the 4th time, upon arrival, we were shown to a room that was either 1) Already occupied 2) Poor view, or 3) Not the room type we had paid for. This visit, we were taken (lugging all our stuff) to 2 separate rooms that already had people in them. The front desk finally offered us an ocean front Jr. Suite but we had to pay $200 extra, and we had to switch to a different room 6 days into our 10 day stay. Both rooms were lovely, but the second room was not a Jr. Suite, just a regular room.
They charge $60.00/wk or $15.00/day for internet. This is ridiculous, but since that was our method of staying in touch with family at home, we had no choice but to pay the price.
To get a lounge chair, you must get to the pool or beach by about 6:30 a.m. and claim your spot. They should have monitors that clear chairs after a couple hours absence (like at Now Jade next door) because several times, we noticed chairs sitting claimed but unoccupied ALL DAY.
They have upgraded the liquor choices to include premium brands (Jack Daniels, Absolut, etc.) which was a nice surprise.
Ala Carte restaurants - El Alcazar in the lobby is wonderful, with a different menu each night. Do not bother with the other two, especially the Marina. The food at the buffet is a much better choice.
Will we return? Probably not. The Now Jade next door is just as beautiful, the Ala Carte restaurants are better, and we have never had issues with our room assignment.
Me and my girlfriend really ejoyed our stay here. Staff were friendly and helpful. I will be back and will try to stay longer drinking margaritas by the pool.

Is there family friendly evening entertainment?

Vjodoin
The resort offers entertainment for all crowds. This is a great resort for all ages as they have plenty of entertainment to go around.
DanielleCC
The nightly shows are family friendly - nothing risque or rude.
RivieraMayaAddict
Yes they provide nightly entertainment by the pool and in their huge banquet hall. we saw a fire show (favorite), circus show and a magic show. They all started at nine o'clock and our kids loved them all.
bubbabenny
Yes they have family entertainment every night..Either by poolside or in the Convention Center..
RozandTony
Yes! Every night they have a family event planned for everyone! From tribal dancing to Karaoke!
Texas11
Yes! Every night they have very family friendly entertainment. One night they had fire dancers, another Latin dancers with beautiful costumes. They even got the kids up and invovled in a few games.
Mace
YES. They have variety. There is always live music and dance in the main lobby area, where people just relax, drink and enjoy the music.
Some days, they also have activities like fire shows, kids activities, pajama parties etc..
So overall its good atmosphere in the evening. The key is to go in little peak time because number of activities & available options goes up.
Anonymous
Every activity at this hotel seem to be family friendly. If you are planning a visit with kids and family this would be a perfect place to be. The kids club staff were very good with kids and they even had a kids performance at one of the night events.
dmarrer
yes there is and it is very good.
BenitoK1
Yes there is. Every night there's a theme that the hotel personnel makes sure everyone is in on it.,
KimHR
We traveled outside the resort to Playa del Carmen each night so I am uncertain as to the availability of entertainment at the resort
DrMadmIke
They have a small show at 9pm by the pool but they dont have seats for everyone. They have nothing to do for kids but a screen and a wii boxed hooked up to it for an hour or so.

How is the food?4 answers
I have been to Valentin Imperial as well as Dreams Riviera Cancun. I was happy with the food at both places. Are the a la carte restaurants at Marina el Cid good? are reservations hard to get and can you only go to the a la carte a restricted amount of times per stay?
GAvin
We have not received any recent negative reviews from our customers pertaining to the food at this resort. Reservations and availability at the a la carte restaurants would depend on the resort's current occupancy during your travel dates.
MariaCC
I enjoyed the food as did my wife. We especially liked the Mxican Buffet. It wasn't as mexican as we were initially hoping. (tacos, etc) But was very good. Reservations were easy enough to get, but you had to book everyday. You were only allowed one reservation per day. We are late wakers and still managed to get reservations everyday
menace690
The a la carte restaurants are just ok. But to be honest, the buffet was absolutely fabulous! We tried the 3 specialty restaurants, but the buffet was better than all of them. The reservations are not too hard to get. You are allowed to make one reservation per day for dining up to two days in advance.
DaynaB
I wasn't a huge fan of the food. It was decent. The a la carte restaurants weren't wonderful but I wouldn't tell someone not to go here because of the food. There is always plenty to eat and a nice selection. I'm not sure about restrictions but we stayed a week and went once to each of the a la carte restaurants (3). I'm thinking we could have gone more but our schedule didn't really work well doing that.

Is airfare included in the quoted price?2 answers
Yes I know that your details list that airfare is included, but it is so inexpensive that I wonder if I have misread. If it is included, where do th flights originate for this resort?
New York, NY
On our web site you have the option of pricing out a vacation package that includes air from any departure city. You would just need to select the city that you will be flying out of, and the web site will price your vacation package accordingly.
KristinCC
I'm not sure where you are looking on the web site but our airfare was included. We flew out of Rochester, NY so our flights are normally a little higher because we are not a "hub". We got a really nice sale and paid only about $1100 each for a full week with the airfare included! I think we were sort of off season, but it is a nicely priced place.

What accommodations are available for handcapped visitors?2 answers
I use a walker to get around and I wonder how difficult it would be for me at the beach and pool. Are there any motorized modes of transportation for rent(i
.e. motorized chairs, etc.) available at this resort?
Royal, Arkansas
The resort advises that they have 2 handicapped rooms on property but they do not have any motorized modes of transportation available for rent. Unfortunately, the handicapped accomodations we are accustomed to in the US are not found as regularly in many Caribbean destinations. Please feel free to contact one of our agents to discuss some better options for your travel.
ccsusan1
I can't say it would be a perfect fit for you, but there are ramps and elevators which should take care of most of your needs. Many of the sidewalks are stamped concrete to give it a nice look. For the main part it is a pretty even surface. You might run into problems trying to use the beach, but I'm thinking sand might not be the best place to be using a walker anyway.

Any local shopping and adult entertainment?2 answers
1 month ago
SS&RM
Shopping area and adult attractions are about 20-40 mins away from this resort.
DanielleCC
The little town of Puerto Morelos has a pretty good shopping area, although it is spendy to get there $10 cab each way, for the 1 mile or so ride. We were disappointed to discover the bus we used to take for $.50 each way was put out of business by the cab companies.
We are not night people so we never went to town at night but several of the local places looked like they might offer some adult fun.
Playa Del Carmen is about a half hour away and offers all the usual Senor Frog's-type entertainment and touristy shopping you might want. Cab was $45 each way, or consider hiring a private shuttle driver if there are 4 or more people.

Is there a dress code for dining?3 answers
If so, what are they and are they for just the a la carte restaurants or all of them?
New York
There is a dress code to eat at the special restaurants as they do not allow flip-flops and men must wear dress shirts.
MariaCC
For the ala cartes, men must wear long pants, collared shirts and socks. No shorts for men or women. The buffet is casual - you can wear swimsuits at lunch. The only ala carte worth eating at is El Alcazar in the lobby. It was wonderful. The other two are not worth going to - the buffet is a much better choice.
JHolt
They say there is a dress code and I did bring "business casual" clothing. I was a bit surprised that not everyone followed the rules. They didn't chase people out of the restaurants, but take a nice outfit. It doesn't have to be a suit. Just something you might wear out for a nice dinner at home.

Are there elevators in the hotel?2 answers
1 month ago
Bob
Upon called the resort, they advised that all buildings are equipped with elevators.
MariaCC
There are elevators in the buildings for your rooms. I believe there are ramps everywhere too as you go from the main building to the rooms so if someone has problems with steps it isn't too bad until you try to get on the beach. But the sand would pose another problem there. They also do have golf carts and I believe they will even come get you if you need assistance. We only used that when we were leaving and didn't want to lug our luggage around.

Thank you for your time in answering this question.

As activities are always subject to change, we would be unable to confirm class schedules at the resort.
