Costa Rica and all it has to offer
My boyfriednd and I just got back from our vacation in Costa Rica, I had a really good time, I wasn't ready to leave. My boyfriend and I stayed for 7 days six nights. The room service there was really good. Elky was the name of the lady who maintained our room., she did a really good job. We never had to call house keeping for anything which I loved.
When you first arrive at the resort the beach doesnt really look like much but you have to actually walk on it to appreciate it. They have black sand there which is beautiful.
The food there was fair you have to try each restaurant to find out which one you like. They had several different activities there on the resort which I thouhgt was a nice touch, I would recommend the couples exfoliation and kareoke, that was nice, you can still try the exfoliationt if you are not a couple. While we were there we tried a combo tour. We went with the guys on the beach, like most people I was totally against it but my boyfriend convience me to go and we had a great time. A bit of advice would be to try and negotiate a price if possible tell them you will think aout it and give them the answer the next day, we did that and the price went down from $120 pp to $90 pp. We dealt with a guy name Reimy, he can be a little persistent but he does deliver. The name of his busissnes is Quality tours. I would also suggest paying the day of the trip so that way you will garuntee your trip and try and find out if others are going, talk to others and see what they say, so your not the only people going, its better in a g roup. I heard CRT tours was not that great so beware. If you do the Zipline, inquire about the rock climbing part of it, if you go with Reimy there will be rock climbing, but you dont have to do it if you dont want to and can still contiune with the zipling or you can skip the whole thing. I did and just did everything else the package had to offer. Everyone there was so pleasant, everyone spoke to you, and I loved that they bring you drinks on the beach. The pool closes at 11:00 p.m. Oh! just so you know you will have to pay a depature tax of $26.00 per person when you leave which we didnt know until we got there., you can pay it at the hotel before you leave but it will cost you $.4.00 per person. The taxi ride from the airport to the hotel should cost no more than $50.00 per couple don't get over charged. BRING LOTS OF BUG SPRAY, the mosquitos out there are a bit much. they bit me up. As far as the weather goes, we had pretty good weather for it being the 4th week in August, it rained every day but the rain was brief, I would say it rained alot on our last two days there. I would go back in August again, it wasn't too hot or too crowded which I loved because you got better service. Overall a really nice vacation. Would do it again but this time I would be better prepared in regards to the mosquitos. Oh! one more thing, the difference between oceanview and oceanfront is the location of the bungalow. Oceanfront means your bungalow is in front of the ocean and oceanview means you will have view of the ocean which is what we had and it was just fine. Below you will find pictures. Hope this review was helpful.
My husband and I went for our Honey moon and the Hilton Papagayo went over and beyond for us. It was also my husbands birthday. Everything was great and they treated us like kings and queens. The excursions were great but i would suggest going to the people on the beach and signing up excursions with them. They are safe and are a lot more cheaper! I hooked up with Raymond, he wasnt pushy and he has a family business doing it. I wish i new in the beginining of the week and not end of the week but Swiss Travel did do a good job as well. The night activities were a lot of fun, kareoke, dance lessons and live singers. The food at the bar was the best i thought and the bar tenders were awesome! I loved the buffet food for breakfast the most. I had the best time ever! will def go back!
The grounds were fabulous.
The food was fabulous.
The staff was fabulous.
The beach - mixture of white and volcanic. The black, shimmering sand - did not appeal to my family.
The pool(s) fabulous.
The beach - we had a gas traversing the volcanic rocks and observing the sea life within. Fairly decent snorkeling conditions. Not an abundance of tropical fish, but if you worked at it, you'd see a lot of cool fish, urchins, crabs,
Swimming was very pleasurable, we went in Late July, the temperature was perfect. the immediate bay was calm most of the time. We did not experience any waves that would knock you off of your feet.
The bungalos - private, clean, well maintained each and every day. Our air-conditioner though, was not adequate at keeping the humidity down - maybe it's just thenature of Costa Rica. It was not intolerable, but also not up to my expectations. We ran the air at max 24-7 but still could not clear the humid, musty smell from the room.
I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the entertainment at the main bar in the evenings. Each night a different act, and actually quite good. Local flavor music (lmiscellaneous latin flavors) not obnoxiously loud and having genuine talent.
Costa Rica was great, we're all returning but this time trying a different resort but still in the Guanacaste region.
On a 5 star rating - I'd rate 3.75 for the negatives described above. However, I would still recommend this resort - the food, service, pool, and atmosphere was great!
This was a beautiful hotel--service was top notch. The biggest downfall was the beach, or lack thereof. The beach was wide enough, just was too short to enjoy a leisurely stroll. Since the Hilton is very isolated, you must drive to a decent beach to spend any quality time in the sand. If beaches aren't your thing and you enjoy very serene atmosphere with great pool and view, then you would enjoy it here.

Room Information
With superior accommodations and a host of first-class amenities such as the signature Hilton Serenity Bed with 250-thread count linens, high speed Internet access, individual air-conditioning and flat screen TV's with cable. Each of the 202 luxurious rooms and suites are so impressive they will take your breath away. Each bungalow has two spectacular rooms, which are available individually or connected. Most of our bungalows consist of one king size bedroom connected to a second room with two double beds, sold separately. For families of four, we recommend booking two rooms of the same category. Note connecting rooms are subject to availability.
The rooms not only look good, they feel fantastic with a Suite Dreams mattress and down-filled comforter from the Hilton Serenity Collection--it's hard to leave a bed this comfy.
What We'd Change
This huge mountainside resort can be a little difficult and tiring to navigate, especially with small kids. Good thing the complimentary shuttles run so frequently.
Why You Should Go
If you're looking for a beautiful Costa Rican retreat with awesome views, all inclusive activities, a fantastic kid's club and luxurious rooms, Hilton Papagayo is the resort to beat.

There aren't too many places where you can kick back on a natural volcanic sand beach, but the privilege is yours at the secluded Hilton Papagayo. All inclusive mojitos from the swim-up bar, Fuente de Vida, taste great in either of the two pools, and kids get to splash around worry-free in the kiddie pool. Whether you're soaking up the beauty or splashing around the surf, you can do as little or as much as you want: snorkel off the beach, test your sea skills on a sailboat, explore the ecosystem firsthand on a hiking trail or strut your way through dance lessons. The PRECOR fitness center is open 24 hours, so you can keep up with your cardio routine. Kids not stoked on the hours of sightseeing you have planned? No worries, just drop them off at Kidz Paradise for video games and sand castle contests while you take in the majesty of Rincon de la Vieja Volcano.
