Barbados weekend

For a taste of Barbados, I choose the Hilton since I am a HHonors member. I was upgraded to a ocean view king suite upon arrival and the room is luxurious, huge and very comfortable. The beaches are powdery white sand and there is a two-level pool, all with comfortable lounge chairs. There is a pool area bar/restaurant, but no swim up bar. Food at this bar is average (salad) to good (brisket) and they have a decent selection of premium liquors and local beer. The lobby bar/restaurant is also average for food, has been liquor selection, but less beer options which seemed odd. Front desk staff is very friendly and so are the beach guys, but the bar/restaurant staff is not as engaging. Also important to mention, I booked a couple of excursions through CheapCaribbean and the information provided in my e-mail confirmation did not match the tour operator, so highly recommend you contact the tour operator and confirm all pertinent details.

Just OK

The dining service is EXTREMELY slow. Waited an hour for breakfast after being seated. There are no nearby eating options. Food was expensive and service was slow. The facility was being renovated so noise was a problem. We asked to move to another room. The staff was courteous and professional. Overall the facility was well maintained. If they speed up the dining service this would be par with the other Hiltons.

Nice hotel, very convenient location

I booked this family vacation & decided on the Hilton due to previous use of the brand, the price and location of the resort. We opted not for an all-inclusive since we planned to explore the island. The room was well maintained and clean, and housekeeping kept it that way. All of the staff we met were friendly and helpful. Some of the porters seemed a little too eager looking for tips. The grounds were nice, pools were in good shape & clean, as were the two beaches (on the grounds). The beaches are a bit small and can be quite rough, with occasionally strong currents. If you have a waterproof camera & use it in the surf, have a leash on it. There are a few local vendors on or around the beach, as all beaches are open to the public. We only met one who seemed put-off we didn't want to view his merchandise the instant he came around. If you desire water that is a bit more calm, there is always Pebbles Beach, located just north of the resort. This beach is adjacent to Barbados Blue (water sports) and there is a public restroom at the entrance to the beach. It is used by locals and resort guests. We ate at the Lighthouse Terrace (dinner & breakfast), Water's Edge Bar (lunch) a couple times each. Portions were a bit on the small side at the bar. Food was good. We also had coffee & snacks at the Cuppa Cafe. Drinks were good (very hot), as were the snacks (cookies, etc). Staff at all three were great: friendly & helpful. Concierge was also helpful so if you have any questions, just ask. Be cautious of on-site taxi pricing. We were told the cost for travel to the Gap by the Concierge, but the driver we got seemed to expect more because we were a party of four. We later learned the price was set at $25 BBD, which according to local restaurant staff, some taxi drivers didn't think was enough. Other than one round trip via taxi, we used the local bus or zedder (each cost $2 BBD or $1 USD per person). Bus and zedder is more colorful and a much better way to see some of the island culture. Yo can catch the bus/zedder via a short walk out to H7. This was our second time using Cheapcaribbean and other than a little hiccup figuring out our departure pickup time, there were no issues. To avoid any issues, make sure to have prepaid ground transfer and room vouchers handy.

NICE VACATION

OVERALL WE WERE HAPPY WITH OUR STAY. HOWEVER, THERE WERE A COUPLE OF ISSUES WE HAD. 1. THEY STATE THAT THEY HAVE TWO RESTAURANTS FOR DINING. THE "GRILL" WAS NOT OPEN FOR DINNER WHICH LIMITED US TO TO THE LIGHTHOUSE RESTAURANT. THE WAIT STAFF WAS NOT VERY FRIENDLY THERE, FOOD WAS OK NOT GREAT. WE DIDN'T GO BACK AGAIN. 2. ON FRIDAYS,SATURDAYS AND SUNDAYS, THE BEACH AND POOL AREA ARE TAKEN OVER BY LOCALS. THE BEACH IS PUBLIC BUT THE CHAIRS AND UMBRELLAS ARE NOT. THE POOL IS SUPPOSED TO BE FOR GUESTS ONLY, HOWEVER IT WAS PRETTY OBVIOUS THE LOCALS WERE USING IT. 3. THERE ARE LOCALS TRYING TO SELL EVERYTHING FROM ALOE TO MASSAGES ON THE BEACH. THEY CAN BE RELENTLESS, NOT VERY PRIVATE FOR A RESORT.

What's to Love

We love the incredible beaches at the Hilton Hotel in Barbados. Situated on a point jutting into the ocean, Hilton Barbados Resort borders two white sand beaches.

What We'd Change

The architecture of the hotel is very modern and not very Bajan. But the new, stylish rooms are perfect for relaxing after a hard day of play.

Why You Should Go

This outstanding resort is a great base for exploring the beauty of Barbados. Two white-sand beaches and a dive shop mean island adventure is close-to-hand.

They might even have so much fun that they won't notice when you slip off to the Hilton's spa, where an outdoor massage on the beach under a sunshade is the icing on a worry-free afternoon.

When it's time to eat, both of the Hilton's restaurants offer scrumptious choices sure to satisfy even the pickiest eater in the family. At The Grille the catch of the day reminds you of just one of the many benefits of vacationing near the sea: fresh and flavorful fare. For snacks, Careenage Bar offers Caribbean tapas and funky island drinks sure to get you in the island groove.

If you're starting to feel a little too indulgent, Hilton Barbados has a full-service fitness center with Precor(R) fitness equipment and fun salsa and yoga classes. Or, for an additional charge, you can grab your clubs and head over to the Barbados Country Club. Want the crowning touch for a vacation to paradise?
