Overall great first time in mexico

My husband and I went for our 10 year anniversary. It was our first time in mexico. We stayed here because friends of our recommended it. We are now telling more people to stay here. We upgraded to platinum and loved it. The breakfast buffet was my favorite meal! Service everywhere at the resort was top notch. Pools were beautiful although we didn't swim in them. We hung out on the beach all day. There was only one thing I didn't like. Our bed was harder than usual, but wasn't terribly uncomfortable. Anyone wanting a truly relaxing vacation should visit this resort!! Going back in a year!

Great Experience

I would definitely recommend this resort to anyone! I will start with check in, we arrived earlier than check in but we were still able to get checked in within 10 mins and we were taken to our room right away. For anyone that says check in took long - it's a process, there may be a line, so just be patient and wait!! However, that wasn't our case - we were checked in and given our bracelets under 10 mins! From the moment we got there everyone who worked there was smiling and said hello as you walked by. I traveled with my boyfriend and we stayed in the Villa's - I only have one word AMAZING! The room was beautiful, the bed was comfortable - we both said how amazing we slept every night. (FYI: if you stay in the Villas go see your concierge and receive all your benefits that come with that room such as spa treatment, free room service, private pool, private beach area, access to the snack bars and a Gala Dinner on Thursdays). However the front desk did not tell us about this, when we went to get beach towels our concierge Hugo filled us all in. Hugo is one of the nicest people I have ever met - he was truly there to help you and went above and beyond for his guests. He deserves much praise from the resort. Next, the resort is somewhat big nothing to extreme. If you have difficulty walking there are golf carts that you can get to take you to different places. The villas were close to the lobby, gym, theatre, and buffets. We had to walk about 4 mins to get to the beach but your on a vacation. walk and take in the sun and scenery! We didn't mind at all. In fact sometimes we would just walk around the resort because it was beautiful. Someone was always cleaning or making the resort look clean. It is actually a very beautiful ground and is well kept. I never saw a piece of trash the whole time besides empty cups on the trash cans which are meant to be there to be recycled! The beach had PLENTY of beach chairs, there was a bar on the beach with snacks attached that you could eat whenever you were there. We used our private beach because of the Villa's and we were waited on by Rosilla who was wonderful! She deserves praise as well. The beach is well kept as well but going into the water is a little rocky BUT that is not the resorts fault. There was several pools and there was always someone going on at the main pool for entertainment. The buffets were fine, it's buffet food! I never had to wait once and there was definitely a variety of food everyday and for everybody. For people that complained their food was cold well it is a buffet but it honestly wasn't that bad. If you get it when it just comes out it's hot, if it sits there it gets cold just like food does everywhere else. There was a station everyday that you could have someone made right in front of you whether it was eggs in the morning, sandwiches, hot pasta, grilled chicken and it was always HOT! As mentioned before we had access to the snack buffets which we thought served the same food as the regular buffets but it was a little less crowed and had a more personal setting but not much was different about it. The gala dinner was probably our favorite meal! It is true that it is hard to make a reservation at the restaurants but the resort is big and everyone wants to eat there but we thought going through our concierge actually got us the reservations. Overall, the resort was great for a first time couple. I'm happy I chose it. It was beautiful, clean and everyone was extremely friendly! Some of the employees would ask if you spoke Spanish or English but they didn't treat us any differently because we spoke English. Everyone still tried their best and always did it with a smile. I would go back in a heart beat and would recommend this resort. The only thing I would say is towards the end of the afternoons there seemed to be less and less toilet paper in the public bathrooms by the beach and the pool which is understood because EVERYONE uses them but they should be stocked more. And this ONLY happened at the end of the afternoons. I also can't speak for other parts of the hotel, rooms, etc. But the Villas were absolutely beautiful and you did receive perks (I believe platinum recieved the same perks as well). Both lobby's which were right around the corner were well kepted, the main area where the restaurants were was nice, there was always music playing in the main palace where you could sit and drink or dance.

Late Spring Break Vacation

During this recent trip I traveled with my dad and sister. We were looking for a fun, yet relaxed vacation. Everyone at the resort, from Emiliano at the Riviera Buffet and Anastacio at the Sunset buffet, provided nothing but amazing service to us. The food unfortunately was average at best. Even though the resort boasts of 13 restaurants the buffets were the only ones were no reservation was needed and more accessible as well. There was no variety even on their different "theme" nights. As a vegetarian, my sister and I agreed more choices were needed. The beach was crowded at all times and so we had to get there early to be able to reserve a chair. Even though there were many pools, none of those had chairs available as well. We saw chairs the entire day at the pools and beach empty the entire day, but apparently reserved. The hotel does have a mini mall by their lobbies but its sufficient to say that its somewhere where we would not shop at all for souvenirs, clothes or junk food UNLESS it was our last option. The stores were severely overpriced.. The room was wonderful, well decorated and comfortable, the resort a sanctuary for certain wild animals. Overall the resort was great but small improvements we mentioned would make it better.

Food and service

The resort was beautiful and well maintained. However my husband and I had horrible food the entire time at every place whe went the service was very poor. You could not get a reservation to any of the so called good dinner places. I didn't find them to be friendly towards amarricans for the most part. We did upgrade and bought a membership to some other thin and when we did the service got a little better but not like I am used to at resorts. The bed was extremely un-comfortable. I hate to complain but our vaction was not as we would have liked it to be. Amistar is the one people who were over the top oleasent and helpful.
