Ok, but room for improvement

Check in for our trip was a complete mess. We were booked at the Punta Cana part of the resort originally but due to construction the reservation was moved weeks prior to our trip to the Bavara part of the resort. When we arrived they tried to take us to the Punta Cana and they turned us away, when we arrived at the Bavaro they said they had our room, but our paperwork was at the Punta Cana and they wanted us to go get it. We refused and they eventually sent someone to get our check in paperwork and keys. Check in for our party of 10 took well over an hour! We had asked for 4 rooms close together... Two were close the other two were as far away as they could have possibly been in the resort! The rooms were nice, we had a few issues with the lights not always working and not always getting the proper linens each day, but otherwise they were nice. Because of our large group we went to the specialty restaurants right for 6 when they opened. The steak house went pretty well the first night so on our fourth night we went there again.... totally different result. Dinner for the first 5 in our group took a little over and hour, dinner for the 2nd 5 in our group took over an hour and half to be served to us... they were very confused, not apologetic and flat out just untrained to handle mistakes. Despite these things we were able to thoroughly enjoy ourselves. The entire resort complex is huge and the train system they have works pretty well to get around the entire thing. The resort could do a much better job at letting guests know the schedule of events for the day. I even loaded their app and we still couldn't tell exactly what was going on at what times and where. The remodeling they are doing is needed as some parts of the resort are starting to look warn out. The food at the buffets was pretty good, no complaints there.

Could of been better

The hotel staff are very friendly, however we were told we could not enter a restaurant because my friends dress wasn't allowed. She was covered from chest to ankles, only shoulders showing. Prior to being told that we couldn't come in, we sat outside waiting for it to open for over an hour and the staff had plenty of time to let us know she needed to change. That was my first night there. Then the ceiling was leaking water onto the floor. Still the first night there, the following night we went to a restaurant and the hotel services made the reservation for us at 10PM, before getting there the driver told us we needed to hurry up, because the place was closing. The cook was rude "because we went there too late", not our choice.... Overall we had an okay time, but I would never stay here again, if I went back to Punta Cana

Ok resort with fantastic beach

I want to start by stating that my wife and I are far from traveling "snobs" and are typically very easy going and always satisfied with our resort. With that said, this resort was definitely a bit of a letdown for us. When we got there the first night, the check in process was smooth and the room and resort looked quite nice. I did notice however that the waitress seemed genuinely disinterested in helping us until the end of the night when our group gave her a handsome tip. Throughout the rest of our stay, she managed to always find us and was certainly eager to help in hope of receiving a similar tip. Usually I don't notice things like that but I'd soon find out that the overall service at this resort was more or less the same. The workers didn't seem to want to help us, which in turn led us to leave less tips. Had they been more pleasant from the get go, we would have happily tipped accordingly. More times than not, we would never even receiver water, juice, coffee, etc. while dining at the buffets. The food was also a bit of a disappointment. The buffet was pretty standard but I'm far from a picky eater so I tried most everything. Unfortunately about halfway through our trip I got a stomach bug that put a big damper on nearly an entire day. We discovered at the end of our stay that the Bavaro buffet was far superior to the Behique. The biggest downfall of the food situation here was that the restaurants don't take reservations. Therefore every night at every restaurant, there'd be long lines in which people would wait hours (seriously) for, and sometimes not even get in (seriously). We typically wanted to go to the restaurants so it would ruin the last couple hours of our day because we'd have to stop what we were doing early to get ready and be at the restaurant before they opened at 6. I repeat, if you want to use the restaurants, get there 15 minutes before they open. The room was also a bit of an annoyance in regards to the tiny bathroom/shower and the closet situation. The closet merely had two benches in which to place your stuff so it was next to impossible to keep in order and there were no dresser drawers to work in its place. The room had a jacuzzi tub which looked clean and nice but we never used it so it instead just took up space in a crowded room. The bed and pillows were quite comfortable and everything seemed well maintained/clean. By far the best part of this resort was the beach. Amazingly blue water lined with a variety of lush vegetation and palm trees. This was easily the best beach we've seen at a resort. It was definitely crowded however, but that doesn't bother us. We also took an excursion to Soana island which we booked through the Snorkel Club right on the resort's beach. I'd highly recommend this trip because the beach there was even better than the resort's. We took a "speed boat" to the island with a brief snorkel stop which was quite mundane really, and then stopped again in a natural waist-high pool where they began serving rum. From there we made it to the beach on Soana where we spent a couple of hours and were fed a fantastic Dominican meal and more drinks. A catamaran took us back at a more leisurely pace. Overall, our trip was still very enjoyable even though I wasn't a big fan of the resort because it certainly isn't bad, it's just not as good as I've experienced in other resorts. I'd highly recommend it for the beach but I think there are likely other resorts on the island with equally nice beaches so I probably wouldn't recommend this resirt to a friend.
