Ok resort with fantastic beach

I want to start by stating that my wife and I are far from traveling "snobs" and are typically very easy going and always satisfied with our resort. With that said, this resort was definitely a bit of a letdown for us. When we got there the first night, the check in process was smooth and the room and resort looked quite nice. I did notice however that the waitress seemed genuinely disinterested in helping us until the end of the night when our group gave her a handsome tip. Throughout the rest of our stay, she managed to always find us and was certainly eager to help in hope of receiving a similar tip. Usually I don't notice things like that but I'd soon find out that the overall service at this resort was more or less the same. The workers didn't seem to want to help us, which in turn led us to leave less tips. Had they been more pleasant from the get go, we would have happily tipped accordingly. More times than not, we would never even receiver water, juice, coffee, etc. while dining at the buffets. The food was also a bit of a disappointment. The buffet was pretty standard but I'm far from a picky eater so I tried most everything. Unfortunately about halfway through our trip I got a stomach bug that put a big damper on nearly an entire day. We discovered at the end of our stay that the Bavaro buffet was far superior to the Behique. The biggest downfall of the food situation here was that the restaurants don't take reservations. Therefore every night at every restaurant, there'd be long lines in which people would wait hours (seriously) for, and sometimes not even get in (seriously). We typically wanted to go to the restaurants so it would ruin the last couple hours of our day because we'd have to stop what we were doing early to get ready and be at the restaurant before they opened at 6. I repeat, if you want to use the restaurants, get there 15 minutes before they open. The room was also a bit of an annoyance in regards to the tiny bathroom/shower and the closet situation. The closet merely had two benches in which to place your stuff so it was next to impossible to keep in order and there were no dresser drawers to work in its place. The room had a jacuzzi tub which looked clean and nice but we never used it so it instead just took up space in a crowded room. The bed and pillows were quite comfortable and everything seemed well maintained/clean. By far the best part of this resort was the beach. Amazingly blue water lined with a variety of lush vegetation and palm trees. This was easily the best beach we've seen at a resort. It was definitely crowded however, but that doesn't bother us. We also took an excursion to Soana island which we booked through the Snorkel Club right on the resort's beach. I'd highly recommend this trip because the beach there was even better than the resort's. We took a "speed boat" to the island with a brief snorkel stop which was quite mundane really, and then stopped again in a natural waist-high pool where they began serving rum. From there we made it to the beach on Soana where we spent a couple of hours and were fed a fantastic Dominican meal and more drinks. A catamaran took us back at a more leisurely pace. Overall, our trip was still very enjoyable even though I wasn't a big fan of the resort because it certainly isn't bad, it's just not as good as I've experienced in other resorts. I'd highly recommend it for the beach but I think there are likely other resorts on the island with equally nice beaches so I probably wouldn't recommend this resirt to a friend.

The resort was beautiful but we found it incredibly difficult to get any basic questions answered, or basic schedule of events and missed out on several activities that we would have liked to attend due to lack of signage, publicity or knowledgeable staff. We were never given a schedule of shows for the evening and had to ask three separate staff members at the front desk before we could get a clue of what was scheduled/where. We were there during the Emmys and had hoped for an event to celebrate them. Nothing was posted so we assumed we would miss them - wound up going to dinner instead. The next day we saw the leftover set up of what looked like a really great Emmy event with large statues etc. How would we have known? zero signage. Same goes for the fun work out classes we saw at the pool ( how were we to know about those?) Very frustrating because we thought it all looked so fun but no one on staff knew about the events and there was no central location to find a list of activities that day. The one list we did see had no times or locations for the events. Several staff members told us wrong information about pool hours and food hours. The resort was beautiful but left very annoyed at how difficult it was to make the most of it

Most of the hotel staff was friendly, outgoing and helpful. There were a few people who where rude, such as going into the shops, the staff there were unfriendly and acted like we were a bother. Also, when the hotel found out we were not interested in going to their meeting for VIP possibilities, we were no longer greeted with friendly smiles. The pools are beautiful, clean and there were plenty of places to sit and enjoy the view. The bars around the pools were great and music was upbeat and fun. The sandy beach, the water and views were breath taking. The rooms were bright and clean. Our view of the court yard was beautiful and we enjoyed sitting out there at night, listening to the sounds of DR music. The food at the restaurants like the Japanese, Italian, Brazilian, and Spanish were awesome. The food from the hotel was okay.

Not what expected

Be EXTREMELY careful booking any excursion through Amstar or anyone. We booked one and my husband came down with the flu and we are now fighting to get our 300.00 back. They wanted to rebook us but we were going home that day. Food is ok. Be prepared to stand in line for over an hour at the steak house and the Italian. This was our honeymoon and we were promised a champagne basket sent to our room, an upgrade and received nothing. When we asked a different person about it, they play dumb and say they don't know. You get bombarded by people trying to sell you stuff within the resort. The worst part is still fighting with Amstar and Cheap Carribean (Cheap Carriabean will not help you get anywhere with Amstar even though they are affiliated with them) to get our hard working money back.
