Everything about the Grand Palladium Jamaica Resort & Spa is larger than life. From the huge, domed 4-story lobby with grand architecture to the service with all inclusive food and drinks. From the moment you walk in, you feel like royalty - or at least like you're visiting royalty. Located in a calm bay on Jamaica's north coast, the Grand Palladium shares its property with the Lady Hamilton Resort & Spa. But the most impressive aspect of this place is the seriously impressive 86,000-sq-ft infinity pool that never closes! The in-water lounges and integrated Jacuzzis are perfect for enjoying mojitos from the swim-up bar, and with this much space, kids have an ocean of fun.

We loved it!
I was nervous after reading some reviews, but went on this trip with an open mind 5/10 -5/14 2013.
We purchased the transfer option of a private car. I loved it, and will try to do so every time. We were met after customs, and brought to the bar while a driver was coordinated. The driver was very informative and the 45 minute drive from the airport was enjoyable.
Check in was pretty simple, and our request for an ocean front room on an upper floor was granted. It is a large resort and our room was at the far end. There are golf carts that take you and your luggage to your room, and you can get in them while going to/ from your room, but in general it is a bit of a distance and there are no elevators, so keep that in mind if that's an issue for you.
We had a 1 bedroom suite that had a sitting room & balcony, a bathroom w/ Jacuzzi tub, separate shower, and a bedroom with a balcony facing the ocean. There are things that could use a little TLC-the balcony door needed to be cleaned, the shower soap holder was broken, the ceiling fan made a scraping noise, but we were more than happy with our accommodations. I guess those are the things that upset people expecting a 5 star resort and are disappointed.
We didn't go to the restaurants, only the buffets. They were fairly good, but got a little boring after a few days.
For the most part, the service was often pretty good, and most employees were smiling and friendly. Again, it is a large resort and although there are some very attentive employees, you may not get the "personal" experience some desire. At the same time, I was disappointed to see that many people do not tip... at all! Yes the trip is all inclusive, and tipping isn't mandatory, but good service should be acknowledged! We tipped the bartenders, servers, transporters, the housekeeping, and the drivers and I must say we were treated quite well.
The pool was amazing! The infinity pool was popular and is so large it never felt crowded. We actually enjoyed the "adult" pool a little more. It is smaller, but deeper, and more private.
Nightly entertainment was pretty good - although I will say the Reggae theme night may be considered a little risqué if you aren't familiar with the dancing. : ).... I have read reviews where people were offended, and felt it wasn't "family friendly" but to each their own - we were impressed! LOL
The music & dancing at the Infinity bar (entertainers from the nightly shows came and "partied" with the guests) was far better than the disco- which was rather outdated and not much fun.
Overall - we LOVED our vacation. I believe people need to keep an open mind, and not get stuck on being too picky - you dampen your own experience. Bring some tip $, sunscreen, large insulated cups to be filled at the bars (best tip), and a good attitude - Jamaica is beautiful, and sunset at the Grand Palladium is breathtaking!
The Grand Palladium Jamaica was a beautiful resort. I went with my husband for a week and was so happy we made the choice to stay there on our trip to Jamaica. The pools and three beaches were great for swimming and relaxing in the sun.
The restaurants were all pretty good. The best choices I found were the Indian and Asian restaurants, but I suppose that's just a matter of taste.
All in all, I highly recommend a vacation at the Grand Palladium, especially if you are looking to vacation in paradise.
We just went to Jamaica for the first time. We stayed at the Grand Palladium and the resort was beautiful. Due to the location of the resort, the beaches were small but very clean. Accommodations were very nice...definitely made you feel like you were first class! Zentropia Spa provided a wonderful massage! Employees throughout the resort were very friendly and welcoming. Service at the restaurants could have been a little better. I realize that Jamaicans are laid back but that doesn't mean they should take forever to take your order or get you what you asked for. That was the only down side to the resort, but I would definitely recommend this resort!

Would you recommend this resort if I have two (2) small children11 answers
I have two small children (both under 10), has anyone with a similar situation stayed at t his resort and could tell me if it was a good fit for them?

RogerW
Yes for sure! Lots of swimming pools, beach is nice, and lots and lots of food choices! The negative I would say is the 45 min drive to the resort from the airport. If your kids will be tired from a day of traveling, I suggest Riu Montego Bay, Hilton Rose Hall, or Iberostar Rose hall Suites all less than 25 mins from airport.
CaribbeanJim
My kid is 10 and we stayed in the Jr. suite. The sofa can be converted into a pull-out bed, which is big enough for two small kids.
Happy123
There were a lot of kids there during our trip and they seemed to be having a blast. The pools and beaches were perfect for kiddos too.
JHark
I just got back from there and there were plent of kids all ages and looked to be having a ball. Lots for kids activity by the pool area games and such with the entertainment guides.
KellJody
I don;t have kids but there were quite a few around. There was a kids play zone where they had activities for kids and they looked happy when I was walking by. Good luck!
DCsunseeker
NO...not much activity for younger children. Very adult focused. The menu items, the activities, the layout of the resort, the staff, and the rooms...not focused toward children.
Shianna
the palladium has activity thats for children, there's so much for them to do. they will never get bored.
sheant
o my gosh! your kids will LOVE it. They let the kids go to the mini club and they learn dances and skits that they perform at the night show. They braid their hair and remember them when they see they around the resort.
hylynn
Yes definitely although we had no children with us they provided a child's section of resort with check in and out of the children that was safe and the children there were very entertained from what we saw
Herquae
Yes, I saw a lot of young children.
Letsgonow
It is a very low key quiet resort with many families with small children. I believe your children would have a good time. The one part of the pool is less than 3 ft deep. There is a child area too.

What are my choices for departure cities. I live in Iowa.1 answer
2 years, 27 months ago
Fred
Depending on where you live in Iowa and where you intend to travel, the airport of choice can drastically change.
However, the major international airport located in Iowa would be the Des Moines International Airport (DSM). However, about 120 miles West of Des Moines is the Eddley Airfield (OMA) in Omaha, Nebraska, so if you are closer to that direction, that may be an option as well.
Happy traveling!

What is the layout for the 1 bedroom suites?11 answers
In the 1 bedroom suites, is the bedroom separate from where the sofa bed is? We are thinking of bringing our kids and would like as much privacy as possible.

The one bedroom suites at Grand Palladium do have a separate bedroom and living area. The sofa bed is located in the living area.
KateCC
The sofa is right next to the beds so no you won't have any privacy
Gixxersteev
There isn't much privacy. There is a bed and then the sofa just of the other side of the room. It is an open living space. Not private.
Shianna
it is a separate BR, but the couch folds out onto the floor. My daughter had to sleep on it and at over $100/night extra ,I wouldn't do it again

Just one large room with king bed or 2 doubles. Sofa bed is in the same room. No privacy.
bichons
No it is not. But they have a great kids program it is sooooo worht it!
hylynn
Yes it two separate rooms both have balconies plus climate control in both
Chillin
Hi DJ, you are better off upgrading to a one bedroom. We've done it twice and it's worth it because you then have 2 tvs in the room. The king bed in the bedroom is seperate, with a door that locks! The living room area has a sofa bed (best to get sheets on it) and 2 chairs and a table. It's a nice sized room for a couple with 2 kids. Enjoy!
Dolo
I found the ground floor better due to sitting area being upfront w/patio and bedroom in the rear w/patio.....our cousin had a 2nd floor room w/balcony but their bedroom and sitting room were all together
Herquae
Yes, the sofa bed is in another room, but the pull out is disgusting and very uncomfortable. I felt bad for my kids. I would pick 2 queen beds the next time.

what is the cost of the motorized sports3 answers
what is the cost of the motorized sports
2 years, 26 months ago
ted
The motorized water sports are not offered directly by the resort, but instead they are independent vendors located close to the resort. You would be best to speak with the concierge upon arrival, as they would be able to assist you with the best vendors to use, pricing, etc.
KristinCC
I really did not see any motorized sports in this hotel while I was there. If you look at the pictures of the beach closely there is rocks in the water that prevent boats from coming in near the hotel. The hotel itself was far from other hotels and attractions and travel by taxi is expensive.

Yes, free airport service to/from airport/hotel-are included in this "All Inclusive Package." Also, all meals, beverages to include, water, pop, wine, beer, and other forms of alcohol/non alcohol are a part of your deal. When they say "all included," it is really true, there was even a small refrigerator in the room; which was stocked each day with pop, water, beer, etc. It too was included in this package deal.
SDimples
They were not included in our package. We added them with Cheapcarribean. Pick up and drop off was flawless.

What is the age limit to be considered a "child"?3 answers
My son is a young teenager and I wondered what the cut-off age is to be considered a "child" and therefore, free.

The child rate at this resort starts at 3 years old, junior rate starts at 13 years old and adult rate starts at 17 years old.
MariaCC
There were numerous children there, with an age rang from a few months to teens. They offered various activities for the children and allowed them to showcase their talents. I was thinking about taking my grands but there are few limitations as to where you can/can't smoke. For example, ashtrays are everywhere, you can smoke in the lobby, outside the restaurants, near the pools, etc.

Is there scuba diving right off shore by boat?3 answers

While SCUBA diving is not included in the all-inclusive package, there are shops and facilities nearby which offer SCUBA diving packages for purchase.
KristinCC
Hi, I did my share of water sports during my stay at the Grand Palladium and you don't have to leave the resort as it is located on the water. I didn't go Scuba Diving but they do offer it off the beach next to the sister resort (Lady Hamilton), which you would have access to if you stay at the Grand Paladium (or Jamaica) side. Scuba Diving, there is an extra charge but you don't have to leave the resort, the boat is right there!

How does this resort compare to Iberostar Rose Hall Beach?2 answers
Trying to decide between the two resorts. I have two children ages 5 and 10. I want to make sure the beaches are nice (swimmable) as well as the pools and that my kids have a great time!
1 year, 13 months ago
Gdaisy
Both of these resorts have similar ratings and similar amenities so I can understand what a difficult decision this can be. The beaches are appropriate for children-very little surf and warm, shallow water. Both resorts have a lot of activiites offered during the day, and a Kids Club where there all kinds of activities are planned to keep the kids entertained. I would suggest that you call one of experienced Beach Experts to discuss both properties in detail and assist you in making your decision.
ccsusan1
The beach is very very small and kind of rocky. I don't know anything about the Rose Hall so I can't offer an opinion on that one.

not that great but ok
fish47
The AC is horrible and the ceiling fans is set on low and you cannot change it to high.

AC was perfect and stay on when we left the room
mcran
Our AC was fine. You have to keep a room key in the slot right beside the door to keep the AC on when you are in and out of the room. Ask for one extra room key for this purpose. There are many bldgs so there may be issues in some. Go to guest services and request a room change if you have a problem. Tipping them will yield better results.
TropFamilyTravs
We had our AC turned up so high that I was cold during the night.
It was quite hot outside last week (July 28 - Aug 4th) but the indoor restaurants were fine in the evening. The only uncomfortable dining experience was at the Italian restaurant, sitting outside in a corner of the restaurant - there was no breeze. Otherwise it was fine.

Gratuities are included in the total package price. It is your prerogative if you would like to tip your maid, bartender, server, etc. while at the resort. You can also use USD when tipping, however, any purchases would need to be made with Jamaican currency or credit card if acceptable.
MariaCC
No, gratuities are not included and they do expected you to tip, they have no problem letting you know. The Jamaicans would per the US dollar and it does work very well there.

You may need to contact the resort directly for any specific dress codes for the restaurants. However, I usually suggest for men, you should have long pants and close toe shoes. For women, sundresses and dress shoes. Usually, they just request no beach attire at the restaurants.

Yes, during lunch and breakfast you can dress as you wish but for dinner men have to wear long pants and women can not wear cover ups or bathing suits.

Men wear pants in the evening at restaurants. Women are dressed to the nines, with carribbean flare. Very nicely. Otherwise, anything goes

Men must wear long pants to most of the resturants in the evening. Not the buffets - but yes to the Steak Restaurant, the Creole, the Indian & Mexican. Sadly, Bermuda shorts are not allowed.

Can you guarantee connecting rooms for my family of 5 March 30th to April 6th of 2013?2 answers

Prefer privacy for me and my husband.

Can you also describe your beach. I like to walk on the beach. Is there room to stroll?

Connecting rooms can be requested, however we cannot guarantee them. The resort only offers a limited number of connecting rooms and they are assigned based on availability at the time of check in.
The beach is wide enough to walk on while accomodating the beach chairs that are set out for sunbathers. There are photos of the beach available on our website as well as real travelers photos on sites such as trip advisor.
KateHCC
I do know that they have connected suites. I am uncertain if they the rooms as you have speciffically described though. I had an ocean front king suite and believe it was connected to the same. There are also private bungalos separate from the villas, depending on what you want.
The beachs are nice but for sure not made for long walks. There are 3 separate beach areas, one of which is very nice but small adults only area, which I totally recommend. Of the remaing two, the one by the main hotel and infinity pool is for sure the largeest of all but the surf is rocky and has lots of seagrass. If you want the best beach there and do not mind lots of children, stick with Scott's Cove.

Airport transfer?4 answers
Does this resort include airport transfers?
Marcia
The round trip transfers are an additional cost and are not included in the All Inclusive features at the resort.
KristenCC
No, they don't have free transfers, but they have car services to be arranged if you need one. We pre-booked out transfer with CheapCaribbean and paid $25.00 USD per each person round-trip.
Alenka
Yep! Transfers are included and these people are pros...everything is handles seemlessly. No worries!
Jeffrianne
The airport transfers are included if you are part of their travel club. Otherwise you'll need to get your own transportation. There are several bus tour groups that you can sign up for online and purchase a round trip ticket. Cost was reasonable.

This resort considers anyone 17years and older an adult. The maxium room occupany allows 3 adults in 1 room. To book this resort you would need to purchase 2 rooms. Please contact us at 1-800-915-2322 for pricing.
CaitlinCC
Hi Michele,
We went to the hotel in February 2013 and there were 3 of us. We asked for 2 beds and they also had a pull-out sofa, so each of us had a separate bed. Since the rooms are big you have enough space and don't stumble into each other
Alenka
we got 2 rooms next to each other for our older kids. the pull out sofa is big and would work if you only had 2 kids

Is the tap water safe to drink?4 answers
I know that some places recommend sticking to bottled water, is that the case here?
Justin
Resorts now have special designed filtration systems where you need to worry about the water, but they still make bottled water available for their guests since some travelers bodies tend to be more sensitive to this type of change.
LaurenCC
Do not drink the water unless it is bottled. It is free at the resort.
Rivieraman9
Completely safe, I drank it at least once daily. They do provide bottled water in the mini fridge in the rooms. I did not experience any problems. It's not like the water in Mexico. Even in Mexico, the resorts filter and purify their water. I'm not sure about the tap water outside of the resorts in Jamaica, though.
ReefGeek
Yes...the water is safe to drink. The resort has its own purification system.

How,s the beach?6 answers
Lorena
The beach is shared with the neighboring resort at the Lady Hamilton. The Lady Hamilton beach is slightly nicer then the beach at the Grand Palladium Jamaica. It is a short walk over to the other beach.
KristenCC
we only used the beach by our room but it was nice and had kayaking and snorkeling plus other stuff you could do for free, plus jerk chicken on the beach. It was a nice beach with lots of chairs and room.
jamaicamoma
The beaches behind the pool area were beautiful. There was a constant breeze off the water. There was a lot of coral though which is hard on the feet and they recommended that you shuffle your feet because there were manta rays that may be buried in the sand. I didn't see any.
There was Sunset cove beach at the other end of the resort which was sheltered with calmer water and sandy beaches which was much easier of the feet. There was also an adult only beach but I had not checked it out.
CRASH
The beaches are beautiful, but rocky. Wear water shoes. Coral Beach has amazing reefs and Sunset Cove has great water sports. All 3 beaches are beautiful and crystal clear. Bring snorkel masks and snorkels or you will have to pay a $25 cash deposit per person for using theirs.
ReefGeek
Just returned from there, and if you are looking for large, sandy beaches, or to spend time in the ocean, this isn't the place for you! The beaches are small, and the water is filled with coral/rocks. So just swimming and hanging out in the ocean is not great.
However, if you like snorkeling, this may be a good place for you!
Honeymooner359
There are three beaches. The Coral Beach, near the pool, is harsh on the feet, so you want to wear water shoes. I didn't get to visit the adult beach near Lookout Point, but the Sunset Cove beach is nice and sandy, very shady. The Cove is also nice for swimming, although there are occasional coral reefs if you aren't careful. Again, I recommend aqua shoes.

We had no problem at all. We would highly recommend Manner. We were just asking for a ride into Lucea on a Saturday because we wanted to experience the true local shopping. He not only took us there but walked with us the entire time and gave us local information as well.
SanDiegoPandS
Its very easy to book excursion trips once you there. There are multiple locations in the lobby with more options available than I was able to find online. Just look into them and their dates when you check in.
Emily09002
Very easy to do once you are there. There are several places to book excursions in the lobby. SHop around, they all have different prices. Each place was anywhere from $2-$10 different from another. Book once you get there so you get the best deal. Only one option when you book ahead.

Cash or credit card?6 answers
Hi,
I've read reviews recommending to bring lots of $1 and $5 bills for tips but I was wondering whether I should also bring some cash to use the Spa or buy things at the gift shop or book any excursions or will I be ok with a Visa credit card?
Philadelphia
Resorts do accept cash and credit cards. However we do recommend that you bring cash as credit cards have an international charge.
CaitlinCC
We had no problem using credit or debit cards at all.
SanDiegoPandS
You'll be fine with a Visa for those things.
Emily09002
We took cash & kept it in the safe. Credit cards will tag on a 3% fee. We opted for the cash because of this reason. It's up to you.
ReefGeek
Credit card is fine for the spa and purchases, but some of the items at the Watersports require cash deposits. Snorkeling gear, for example, is a $25 deposit, cash only.
EfDeal
I would recommend both cash and credit card. Probably easiest to pay for excursions with a credit card. Use your $1's and $5's for tipping.

Are there any adult only pools? Like the resort but don't want to be around children. We are leaving ours at home.6 answers

Harriet SC
There is an adults-only pool located on the Lady Hamilton side of the resort a short walk from the main pool.
DawnCC
There are 2 adult only pools (18+) - one at the spa, and one on the "Lady Hamilton" side of the resort. However, be warned... there were a ton of families there when we went, and even though there were a couple 18+ spots, it really seemed to be a family resort. We just returned from our honeymoon there, and feel it was a bad choice for us!!
Honeymooner359
Yes, there is a private pool and an adults only beach as well.
EfDeal
yes there are adult pools as well as the spa facilities which has a pool and a lazy river which are accessible for adults only and is part of your regular all inclusive package.
Jamaicafan2013
Yes...there are more than 1 adult-only areas & pools.
Jeffrianne
I believe the only adult pool was at the spa area. There are a few pools throughout. One really large one then a couple of smaller ones. Honestly, even though there are kids there they are less bothersome than some of the adults. We left our kids at home too and didn't have any problems.

yes, for the a la carte restaurant servers and for our wonderful maid. usually $10 for the server and we gave $20 for our maid for the week and she was very grateful.
Jamaicafan2013
While it is not required, the staff will accept and very much appreciate any tips they receive. Please tip at your own discretion.
BILLCC
While tipping isn't necessary, it's appreciated and will get you faster service at the many bars. Remember folks...these people earn "sub minimum wage" just like service-industry workers in this country. Be generous and you will be rewarded for your kindness. Karma!
Jeffrianne
Yes, bring money for tipping. Better service when tipping. Truthfully a buck or two at a time is all you need.
TonyaW
it says tips are included but we found out from my husbands cousin that they love $2 bills they r very rare over there and we got excellent service for the tips we did give
Herquae
Tipping is not required, but we brought money for it. We didn't leave a tip for everyone or for every time we ate or drank, but we did for those who gave us exceptional service. I would recommend bringing some.

Colleen
Yes, there is shopping nearby this resort. However the transfers would be an additional cost.
CaitlinCC
You can book a shopping trip into town but it is not free. It costs anywhere from about $70-$100 there and back but that usually is a day trip where you can do shopping and a beach or a sunset or something.
Smactches
Shopping is in main town about 45 minutes away. There are no transfers.Shuttle charges $22 per person.
luck1974
A few shopping store inside, and no free transfers ANYWHERE!
CeliSpino
There are a few small shops at the resort. Some of the items have tax already included where others do not. I believe the tax is 16.5%.
I'm not aware of any free transfers but they do offer some shopping trips to Negril through the tour groups that are on site.
TonyaW
I don't know what you mean by free transfers, but there is shopping at the resort. The resort has a few stores (a very large gift shop, 2 clothing stores, and a watch/camera store). This was definitely enough for us.
