Wonderful Location & Wonderful Vacation!

Over the holidays in December 2016 we stayed in Number 1436, a gorgeous room at the end of Building 14, with a private balcony and an incredible ocean view, almost close enough to touch. We left our balcony door open all night, and fell asleep, and woke up to, the sound of the waves softly crashing on the shore. This room was on the third floor however and there are no elevators, so I would not suggest this room if stairs are a problem. The three buffet restaurants, while all serving essentially the same fare, are very different in their supplemental offerings and ambience, so be sure and check them all out. We did not get to any of the more formal a la cart restaurants as you needed to arrive very early in order to get a table. There were often 2 hour wait times if you arrived later than 6:30 or so. Likewise if you did not get to the pool or beach before noon, forget getting a chaise. Although they asked people NOT to place towels on them to reserve them, most people did so. It was a bit frustrating seeing dozens of chaises with towels and no one on them for hours. After 3pm however, available chaises were everywhere. We found the food diverse, wonderful, and plentiful. The desserts were to die for, and the buffet on Christmas rivaled any cruise ship I've ever been on. I would not hesitate to return, and I would do everything in my power to again stay in this room.

Good Vacation

We just returned form our vacation and it was good. The weather and resort was very nice. High 80's. Only rained for short period one day. Room accommodations were pretty good. Clean, welcoming, up to date decor and very comfortable. There were only small issues, one room did not have blankets only sheets and light bread spread that looked like sheets on the bed but after the first night or two housekeeping put them on. Everything worked in both rooms, Fridge and Air. Wet bar was properly replenished each day. They even had Bud Light. We asked for extra waters each day and got it each day. Daily replenishing of bathroom towels were also a struggle, but we easily found were they were stored and made sure we grabbed some each day just incase they were forgotten. The airport transfer was longer than stated on the website, but not bad about an hour. This was a private transfer. We were welcomed with drinks and proceeded to check in. Check in was also long even though there were not many at check in. About half an hour to 40 minutes. They did provide refills of the drinks!! We had two rooms to accommodate my family and initially they did not have two rooms in close proximity, same building but not next to each other, but the staff worked diligently to find rooms next to each other which was very much appreciated and may have been the reason for longer check in. Our rooms overlooked the resort/pool and partially the ocean in the distance. The resort is quite big but breath taking. So big, we did not see it all. We walked most places and was within a 5 or so minute walk. The only areas that took a distance to travel 10-15 min or so was the spa, couple restaurants the smaller beach and the larger beach area where all the water sports were. The resort did have transport carts you could catch, but your best bet was to go to the lobby to catch one if they were available, other than that you had to wait for an available transport. Most times we started walking and got there before we saw one. The buffets were average. Usual food and options. Decent flavor. The jerk chicken and pork shack on the larger beach was amazing. Sports bar had good menu options and snacks. Restaurants were also average. We ate at 5 of the al a cart restaurants , Sports Bar, Mexican, Asian, Italian and Steak House. Service in the restaurants was extremely slow and the staff for the most part were not too friendly. Not many smiled or made you feel welcomed. We had a favorite server in the sports bar. Other bar staff were average, mostly unfriendly other than one in the upstairs bar in the evening. She was very accommodating and never had to wait. Always had a smile. Pool areas were amazing, warm and clean. Towels were never an issue. Never felt too crowded. Swim up bar staff very friendly. Larger beach was nice and clean. Was not rocky. Limited kayaks and other sports equipment. Some where broken and damaged, so you had to wait your turn and time was limited. Usual shows in the theater each night and we did not attend them as they did not start till 9:30 and after a day of fun it was too late for our 10 year old. There were multiple entertainment options each night, the theater show and live entertainment throughout, so it was hard to keep track of what was what and where. Seems if you were not on top of it you could of missed some fun stuff. The entertainment staff that roamed the pool and grounds were not as friendly as I would have expected. Very few even said hello as you passed them. They were not very good at getting the guests to join in. At the nightly entertainment they seemed to like to interact or dance with each other more than the guests. The activities were always at weird times. Saw the aerobics each day but that was it. Never saw anything else. We may have been at the wrong place at the wrong times. DJ and fireworks on New years were amazing, but that started at 11:30 and done by 12:30. Never saw people in the disco, so our 22 and 19 year old did not go to that either. We did attempt to take part of the teen activities or mini club, but my son was too young for the teen club (over 13 and only saw play stations and video games) and the mini club activities 9-12 activities were too childish or aimed more towards girls. The staff in these areas were VERY unfriendly and unaccommodating when trying to inquire about the different programs and activities on the first night and we were turned off right away. My son would not return. They offered us the pool tables and ping pong in the sports bar to entertain him for a week. We spent most days at the beach with water sports where we could keep him entertained. He did enjoy the water park too, but that only lasted a couple of hours as it is not too big. We did take a day trip that the hotel offered for additional cost on a catamaran into Negril and we had a great time. The snorkeling and cliff jumping were great. We all did it. Would highly recommend. Other than naming it a "Sunset Cruise" which it did not include it was great. We took a bus back at 6pm which was disappointing. I would definitely go back to Jamaica, but I am not sure at this resort as it bigger than we like, the staff were not friendly for the most part and the activities seemed to compete for each other and you never really knew what to do or where to go for a good time. My older and younger children did not have much to do. If it was just us, maybe as the resort itself is beautiful. We did not get bombarded by vendors, and the food was average even thought the service was slow.

You get what you pay for

On the positive side the main pool is massive and beautiful. So relaxing spending the day next to this pool. The buffets and restaurants were better than average, and the wait staff in the buffets and restaurants was actually pretty good for a cookie cutter resort of this size. On the negative side they do the bare minimum everywhere else. The staff isn't rude, but they don't do much to make you feel welcome either. If you want something light to eat during the day your choices are limited, and the best part of the resort "the jerk chicken hut" is the furthest thing from the heart of the resort. The servers at the outdoor bars are slow even for island time, and that means you are better off going to the bar yourself. Ironically, it is faster to get drugs at this resort than it is to get a Cuba libre from one of the pool waitresses if that's what you are looking for. We drank the 4 bottles of water in the fridge, and figured they would restock the fridge sometime while we were enjoying the resort. At 341pm they had cleaned the room but not restocked the fridge. We called room service, and they said no problem we'll send someone. Around 530 we hadn't seen anyone so we flagged down someone with a cart of drinks (and was refilling other room fridges) and asked if we could have water which he begrudgingly gave us 4 bottles. Then at almost 7PM someone knocked on the door to bring us our water. We got to talking a little bit about what the hotel had to offer, and he explained we had to pay for bottles of wine, but if we gave him $10 he would grab us a bottle of champagne on the side. It just added to my feeling that if you wanted anything you needed to slip them some money. The resort has a couple beaches, but not really what you would expect when you think "Caribbean Beach". They are rocky, and small, very small. If you are looking for something cheap that will provide an all inclusive resort experience then this is your place.

Family Vacation

This was a new experience. The request to have the 2 rooms next to each other was not provided. The room I had did not have towels, water, or air conditioning. The next day, the rooms were changed until 5 PM, but the hotel staff lost our luggage after we were instructed to pack up. The resort, pools, beaches, and people were great.
