Great Vacation to Mexico!!!!

Just returned from a week's stay at this resort after visiting Mexico for the first time. Overall had a great experience. As other reviewers mentioned, the resort is actually 4 resorts in 1: Grand Palladium Colonial, GP Kantenah, GP White Sands and GP Riviera. Colonial/Kantenah are connected while White Sands/Riviera are connected. Room: My group and I stayed on the Colonial side in a junior suite, in Villa 9. nothing too spectacular to be honest. There wasn't much of a view, but I didn't care about that....who goes to a resort in paradise to stay in the room anyway? If you want a beautiful view, just step outside of your room and go to the beach or pool or even the lobby! I will say that there was a musty smell in the room that was most noticeable after the AC had been off for a few hrs. Not a biggie though. There was a mini fridge that was restocked with bottled water and sodas everyday. WiFi was free and worked just fine. Beds weren't the greatest, but then again I have back problems and am very particular about my mattress so keep that in mind. I will say that the rest of my group had no complaints about the comfort of the mattresses. Not enough outlets so make sure you bring a power strip to charge all of your devices. Overall the room was clean, served it's purpose and was a good value for the money. Buffets:: No complaints here. Food was great! I was very pleasantly surprised at the quality of food at the buffets, especially the Colonial buffet (I personally think that was the best buffet on the entire resort). So many options and most of it very good. We utilized the buffets for breakfast and lunch mostly. Specialty Restaurants: We ate at these for dinner. You need a reservation for the Japanese/Hibachi, Punta Emilia (seafood restaurant on the beach and El Dorado (steakhouse). I honestly wasn't impressed with the Japanese place; I've had better hibachi in the States. Punta Emilia was also disappointing; the beach setting was nice, but the food (and our server) were underwhelming. El Dorado was a good one. I honestly thought the Thai restaurant served the best food on the resort...we ate dinner there twice! I will say that at all of the restaurants, the ambiance was great, very classy and we received great service for the most part. Drinks: This is why I'm giving the resort 4 instead of 5 stars. Despite having several (at least 6) different bars on the premises, drinks were always watered down. I also feel like it would've been nice to have some skilled mixologists and actual bartenders serving alcohol; seemed like having bartending skills was not a prerequisite for bartending. For example, I asked for a tequila sunrise and specified I wanted a top shelf tequila, and what I received essentially was a straight shot of tequila with syrup on the bottom of the glass. No mixing whatsoever. They have GOT to do better in this area. Entertainment: The entertainment team was SPECTACULAR! Some of the most hard working people I've met. There are 2 theater shows every night, one in the Colonial lobby and the other in the Riviera lobby. The Jersey Boys show and the Caberet show were AMAZING, and dare I say on par with some of the bigger broadway/live theater shows that I've seen in the States. I was even impressed with the quality of the children's show they did; those with young children seemed to really enjoy that a lot. There was a fire show on the beach one night which was unique, and it was preceded by a beach dance party which was soooo much fun! After the shows, (which usually end ~11pm), the "disco" aka the nightclub opened on the Riviera side and went until ~2am. I thought the DJ could've mixed up the music some, a little too much reggaeton for my liking, not a good enough mix IMHO. All that to say, one could definitely find something to be entertained by at this resort; old and young alike. There was a 60's/70's party, an 80's party, in addition to the aforementioned shows and the club, as well as plenty of activities during the day. Beach: Beach was fine, it stretched a long distance so good if you enjoy walks/strolls/jogs along the beach. I thought colonial beach was the best. All beaches had the seaweed problem and this inexplicable unpleasant odor that accompanied it depending on how the wind blew....but I don't think that that's a resort problem, seems more like a Mexico problem. The sand was coarse in some places and there were a lot of rocks close to the shore, but once you stepped past that area the water was very warm and blue and pretty. I'm not a fan of swimming in salty ocean water either...but there were plenty of people swimming in the ocean with no problems and they seemed to be enjoying themselves. Pools: Were good and plentiful. Colonial pool I think was the best pool, even though it was a tad deep (5.2 ft), it was cool and refreshing for being an outdoor pool. White Sands pool was more shallow (~4ft), so I guess better for a swim up bar, but the water was actually too warm for my liking. If you're looking for a classy resort, devoid of drunken, sloppy, immature/loud spring breakers, great service, good food, plenty of entertainment if you want or plenty of quiet places if you want, pretty beach, nice pools, spa, gym, beautiful grounds, and an opportunity to meet people from different (although mainly European) ethnicities, then GPC is THE place to be! There are a lot more little details I can write but I think I've written enough LOL. Go see for yourself :-)

What an amazing week away! For a very affordable price, my friends and I were able to stay at a beautiful resort with friendly, helpful service, beautiful pools, gorgeous beach views, more food than we could handle, & delicious drinks! It was definitely worth every penny.

Visitors: My boyfriend and I; Lobby: Colonial I've already recommended this resort to all my family and friends. The place is absolutely GORGEOUS. One of my favorite parts was the lush forestry and the wildlife. Every day we would see capybara, coati, iguanas, and tropical birds. They also have beautiful flamingos and a crocodile exhibit. That said, BRING BUG SPRAY. I only thought to bring a little and ran out almost instantly. We went to the on site convenience store and it was $16 USD for a small bottle of weak repellent. Our room was really nice. We did the standard room with a king bed (building 6) and the bed was huge and comfortable. The room and bathroom were very clean and nice. Everything is marble, which provided a stunning, modern atmosphere.. but it does get VERY slippery with just a slight amount of water/sunscreen, so be careful. We were a little worried about this being a resort with kids- we didn't want to be around a lot of screaming kids splashing around in the pool while we're trying to get our drink on, but there wasn't any of that. The kiddos have their own pool/play area, and we ended up finding a private adult-only pool that had it's own bar and bathroom (over by building 4). Also- the spa was probably the most beautiful and relaxing part of the entire trip. It's an extra $10 to use for the day, but SO WORTH IT. The food was good/great. My boyfriend said the pad thai was the best he ever had. The buffets for breakfast and lunch were good- it's the same every day, so you find out what you like. There's a huge variety for every pallet. The drinks- I can neither confirm nor deny this- but they seemed watered down. Which was probably for the best seeing as we drank all day every day. They always had events going on- we didn't participate in as many as I'd liked, but we enjoyed our very relaxing time by the pool. As far as staff goes- they didn't always restock our mini bar- of the 6 days, they didn't twice. Annoying, but not a deal breaker. All other staff was very nice and helpful. When you first get there, they do try to show you some of the nicer areas in hopes that you'll come back... so it sounds like an annoying sales pitch.. but it's fine. You say no thanks and they back off. Also, there are guys walking around trying to get you to sign up for the spa- I'm actually glad they did, because that's how we got our massages set up. We were asked maybe 4-5 times afterwards, but we just said "We already did that, thanks" - they say OK and walk away. No pressure. We did some exploring of the property, and the entire thing seemed well-kept and pristine. I would definitely like to go back and maybe try another part of the resort.

Resort Update
Palladium Hotels & Resorts has announced plans to upgrade its Riviera Maya Complex throughout 2017, including incorporating the current Grand Palladium Riviera Resort & Spa into The Royal Suites Yucatan. This transformation will be completed in various phases starting on June 1, 2017. Construction will mostly take place within the current Grand Palladium Riviera Resort & Spa and will have minimal impact. All guestrooms within the hotel, the rocky walkway along the water & the salt water pool area will be closed to all guests during the completion of the project. All other areas including the Riviera Lobby, Disco & Theatre, El Jardin Restaurant and the current The Royal Suites Lobby will be closed during certain dates listed below. During times of closure, the areas will not be accessible to guests and should therefore not impact the guest experience.

Below is a complete project timeline:

Disco & Theatre:
June 1-November 1, 2017: Construction will be in progress in the Disco and Theatre of the current Grand Palladium Riviera Resort & Spa. During this time, alternate entertainment venues will be provided to guests. Once construction to the Disco and Theatre are complete, the Disco will convert to become one of four exclusive restaurants available to guests of The Royal Suites Yucatan and the Theatre will become the second exclusive restaurant providing guests with a Dinner and Show themed experience referred to as the Cabaret.

Riviera Lobby and Kabah Buffet:
June 1-September 15, 2017: Construction will be in progress at the current Riviera Lobby which will convert to the new The Royal Suites Lobby. Guests will not be affected by this construction since all guestrooms in Riviera will be closed. All hotel services will be available at the adjoining White Sand, Colonial and Kantenah Lobbies.

Construction will also be in progress at the Kabah Buffet. During this time, breakfast, lunch and dinner will be available at La Laguna as well as the other restaurants within the Riviera Maya Complex.

The renovated Kabah Buffet will feature 2 separate sections (1 buffet exclusively available to guests of The Royal Suites and 1 for guests of Grand Palladium).

El Jardin Restaurant & the current The Royal Suites Lobby:
September 16-December 1, 2017: Construction will be in progress at El Jardin restaurant and the current lobby of The Royal Suites. The current lobby for The Royal Suites will convert into 2 separate a la carte restaurants. By this time, the new lobby for The Royal Suites will be open at its new location and the buffet will be available at Kabah.
