I Would NOT Stay Here Again

The rooms at this hotel are VERY outdated. It looked as if they had not upgraded anything since the 90's except the TV's. When we got there our phone didn't work, the safe (extra fee) was broken, and the comforter was dirty. We spent part of our first day getting things fixed/cleaned. The grounds themselves are beautiful, the drinks are not bad depending on your bartender (Dariel was the man), but the food is just ok. The beach has these sand bags in it to block the waves but they are an eye sore. The Japanese restaurant was awful!!! I did enjoy the Mediterranean restaurant but they only let you go there once during your stay. This hotel is an hour plus from the airport and far from Sousa and cabarete so be ready to spend money on transportation. The general staff was nice but did not go out of their way to be extra courteous. I especially enjoyed the entertainment staff. Elizabeth and Juan are hilarious. Dinosco (might be the wrong spelling) from the restaurant was very sweet and nice. I should have known better but whatever you do, do NOT do the presentation...they said an hour and kept us there for 5-6hours and we waisted an entire day. We made the best we could out of this vacation but our most memorable moments were spent off the complex.

not bad at all, but temper your expectations

For the price, no complaints. Food was OK, room was OK. Prepare to be hassled from the second you get out of the airport to the resort by vendors. Resort is open to locals on the weekend and it is very noisy and impossible to get food at lunch time. As another reviewer said "it's as if they haven't seen food before". My wife and I couldn't even find a place to sit. Tolerable...but not what I expect compared to other resorts I've been to. Beaches are not beautiful (white sand and turqoise waters) but you can always find a secluded, quiet area (prepared to be harassed ATLEAST once a day though by someone trying to sell you something and sand fleas/bites galore). Not the resorts fault, but locals love to stare and laugh if you aren't brown, kind of an uncomfortable experience, but again not the resorts fault, I blame inexposure and ignorance. Drinks are sweet and spanish is a must ie. negotiated price for a taxi and explained that we wanted to be able to tip, guy didn't have a clue and this was the resorts official taxi. Casino is 10 slot machines and two tables. Overall impression:resort was pleasant (don't be stupid. lock your suitcases if you want your room cleaned), locals are ehh, I liked seeing the cat that roams around when the sun goes down.
