Not Like Everyone Said

I had really high hopes for Bahia Principe but was severely disappointed. I obtained food positioning and have been sick for a week since I've been back, and to make it worse, the food overall was less than desirable. In fact, I know exactly when I contracted this, at the Asian-style restaurant when I cut into my chicken and it was raw in the middle. Unfortunately I had already eaten some by the time I discovered it. Also, the service was pretty terrible. We had a few excellent bartenders and waiters, and I do want to be culturally sensitive to perhaps I was just mistaking friendliness for cat-calls, but I've never felt more objectified in my life. It got to the point where I didn't even feel comfortable walking around in my bathing suit by the pool. Our room also flooded every time we took a shower, the beds were extremely hard, the toilet got stopped up constantly and our safe broke twice. The Dominican Republic is beautiful and so is this resort, however I will never be back.

Awesome resort!

This was my first time traveling through cheap carrebean and it was the best experience ever! The resort has an awesome and welcoming staff. The restaurants and buffets had so much variety in foods. Only thing that we didn't enjoy as much was the beach so if you're a beach lover this isn't really the resort for you unless you participate in the activities they have which take you to a nearby island called isla saona. But overall it's a great resort to go to if you're traveling with your significant other. Very private and comfortable rooms as well. Will definitely be visiting grand Bahia again!

Never coming back to this island

Staff is rude, power constantly going out, resort is beautifu,l none and I mean none of the staff speak english . Americans seem to be looked down upon where Canadians and Europeans get preferential treatment. Nothing against cheap Caribbean I will use them again just not to Dominican republic. Worse vacation ever

Enjoyable all-inclusive

Grand Bahia Principe La Romana. What this means is this a Grand Bahia Principe resort, located in the La Romana region of the Dominican Republic. It sits between Punta Cana (where we stayed years ago) and Santo Domingo (the capital). This resort is part of a larger property containing a developing (not yet) golf course/condo community. The facility was well-groomed, weather and general environment were fine, food/drink and free access to it was fine, our room was great and the staff were very helpful. Activities were free. We took part in pool aerobics, beach stretching, played ping pong and bocce ball. We kayaked, sailed and paddle boarded. Evening entertainment was fair, occasionally good. We walked the beach twice daily, exploring a little farther each time. Of course we swam in the ocean (bay). We enjoyed relaxing on the beach under palm trees and grass-roofed shelters; reading, snoozing and people-watching. Less than great: The water was cloudy, perhaps because the property is in a bay, away from the ocean currents and waves. There were no beach-accesible coral reefs. Because of those issues, we did not bring our snorkel gear, which is something I usually enjoy and spend part of each day doing. Smoking was not permitted in many areas, but smoke does drift ... Given all of the above, if you have never experienced an all-inclusive, this one is fine. A lot depends on your expectations and what you value most.

What's to Love

It's an all-inclusive, secluded escape haven on a palm-lined, private cove.

Spa's aromatherapy-starts w/ immersion in fragrant oils, followed by massage & facial. Boom.

Dropping the munchkins off at the Mini-Club (ages 4 -12) & taking some time for yourself.

The casino is FREE for all peeps 18+. Don't keep Lady Luck waiting too long.

What We'd Change

The resort restricts the number of visits guests make to its outstanding a la carte restaurants. Luckily, the buffet restaurant, Orquedea, offers exceptional dining.

Why You Should Go

It's 45 minutes from Santo Domingo airport & 35 minutes from La Romana airport.

You can take diving lessons in the pool. Splish splash.

Don't miss the activities at the pool. The Michael Jackson show is aah-mazing.

Santo Domingo is near-seeing the 16th century island life & Castle of Columbus is pretty darn cool.
