great resort, great bang for buck!

We enjoyed this resort immensely. real nice layout with paths behind the villas so lots of privacy while on your balcony. you only overlooked the pool and the ocean, not people walking by all day. buffett was decent and speacialty restuarants very good and no games to get reservations. rooms are very nice and they are constantly working to keep up with them. we liked the beach. it was kept spotlessly clean and free of debris, although it is in a cove and so not really waves. only downside to this resort was the lousy quality of the driniks. although they advertise that they have Stoli and Smirnoff, they are always out at the bars and they make all the drinks with a super sugary premixed slushie mix. way to sweet to enjoy as a cocktail. stick to beer or gin & tonic (except they never had any limes either!)

We Miss Grand Bahia Principe La Romana Already

This was my 2nd time at a Grand Bahia (my first was last year at Grand Bahia Principe Ambar). This was my husbands first time as well as his first time at an all-inclusive. The La Romana was just as beautiful as the Ambar! We both loved the lush and very well maintained landscaping. We liked that the rooms are either 2 or 3 stories high, so it felt more like a tropical living complex vs. typical high rises. Speaking of the resort, the entire place was very clean, they do such a great job! Our transfers and check-in went smoothly. Our room was well cleaned daily and restocked from anything we enjoyed from the refrigerator. We were pleased the shower water pressure was very good. The pool was very clean and the activities around the pool daily were so much fun! The beach was also well maintained daily although it's in more of a cove type area so the water isn't the beautiful aqua you might expect. We opted to eat at the buffets daily so I cannot really comment on the restaurants that require reservations, however a few people we met seemed to enjoy them. We are not very picky eaters so we enjoyed the buffet and the huge selection provided. Every staff member we encountered were genuinely kind, approachable with outgoing personalities, keeping in mind we know very little Spanish, but they were very patient with us. Our Amstar Representative, Ross, was the GREATEST! He too was genuinely kind and helpful when we were deciding on excursions (if you do one of the catamarans, this is where you will experience that beautiful aqua color) and was always available to answer any questions we may have had. We were impressed with the 5 different languages he was able to speak and getting ready to add another soon. I can't say enough good things about this resort and the staff, other than to be sure to keep small bills for tipping, these folks go out of their way to give such a great experience, you'll definitely want to let them know how much you appreciate it! We look forward to going back again!

We went Oct 5-12. Most of the people in the resort were rude. We had problems with our safe from day one. We reported it and had maintenance in our room. On day four we were robbed, and the management did not believe us . we also went to a police station in Dan Pedro to file a police report. We have also sent all the information to their corporate headquarters. I would never go back to the Dominican republic ever again , plus your company did nothing

Lovely vacation

Il Capricio & el pescador were great restaurants. The room was spacious (The day bed worked as a toddler bed), only had one issue with a noisy A/C unit but it was fixed the same day. The pool was clean-loved the kiddie pool & jacuzzi. Staff very friendly. Loves the Michael Jackson show!

What's to Love

Our rooms, the pool and the restaurants were all very nice and clean. With a beautiful beach and tranquil views, our stay was top notch!

What We'd Change

The resort restricts the number of visits guests make to its outstanding a la carte restaurants. Luckily, the buffet restaurant, Orquedea, offers exceptional dining.

Why You Should Go

Hotel Description

Grand Bahia Principe La Romana: Paradise in the Dominican Republic

The coconut palms sway lazily in the tropical breeze. You reach for your mai-tai, realizing you've discovered paradise at Grand Bahia Principe La Romana. From its location on an isolated stretch of beach in the Dominican Republic, this all-inclusive resort promises the chance to escape.

The lake-style pool, with islands, is an attractive centerpiece and a great place to play. Daily activities include water-resistance exercises as well as games. After the exercises, visit the swim-up bar for a mojito before heading over to one of the three Jacuzzis to unwind. Did we mention there's a special area for kids?

If you want to pamper yourself, aromatherapy at the spa is just what the doctor ordered. This signature treatment begins with a sauna and cold bath with aromatic immersion, followed by exfoliation, a body massage and a facial massage before wrapping up your session in a water bed. We love the body treatments with chocolate and exotic Caribbean massages.

Now you're ready to plow through the waves on a boogie board or a kayak. If you prefer the wind at your back, grab a windsurfing rig and test your agility. Or, if the muted sounds and dazzling colors of the underwater world lure you, strap on a face mask and snorkel your way to the hidden beauty of the Caribbean.

When it's dinner time, try the duck with orange jelly or rack of lamb with ratatouille at Le Gourmet, one of the premier restaurants at Grand Bahia Principe La Romana. From churros fried while you watch, to butter imported from New Zealand, Orquedea goes the extra mile. After a delicious meal, you'll find it easy to relax in the comfort of one of the Junior Suites.

One off-site excursion to include on your "must-do" list is an outing to Santo Domingo. The trip is an immersion into the wonders of 16th-century island life and includes the Castle of Columbus. The trip includes time for shopping and the magical Three Eyes Cave.
