Look Elsewhere - Don't do it to yourself..Trust Me

Picture This - Excited from the time you get off the plane...The driver is lovely, telling you of all the beautiful places that you can go and really enjoy Puerto Rico...Pulling up to a beautiful entrance, wind blowing..you are so ready for your vacation with your bestie to begin....You walk to reception to check in..."We have a king sized bed with a sleeper sofa in room 1603 waiting for you"...Excuse me...We requested two double beds. We are friends, not partners. Besides, we are both plus sized woman, and no one would want to sleep uncomfortable on a sleeper sofa. "I'm sorry, but we ran out of double beds. Just so you know double beds are not guaranteed. You can request a double bed room, and we will try to accommodate it, but if it isn't available, the King and sleeper is standard." So I explained to the rep that it's my friend's birthday, to please find a doubled bed room. We asked to speak to the manger, who also informed us of the same policy, that it is not required of them to give double beds. So, vacation already starting off on a horrible note. So we get our room, only to walk into it with an overpowering smell of mildew and mold. The sleeper sofa looked like every flea in PR was on it. It was heavily stained and smelled awful. The bathtub has not been cleaned, the shower floors are filthy, we only had two bath towels, no washcloths, no floor towel and the toilet looked recently used. We called Cheap Caribbean about the issue and they spoke with the front desk, who only offered us another room with a King sized bed and sleeper sofa.. We were placed in the "Red Level;" room. The mildew and mold smell was faintly present, but upon entering, there were crabs and a roach scuttling about. After the bellhop killed the roach and removed the crab for us, we decided that we needed to shower and go to dinner. The bathroom was cleaned but again, no towels at all. We spoke to the manager who informed us that he would let us know if a double bed would become available and he said for the trouble, breakfast was on the hotel daily. (Thanks for that...being that buffet breakfasts was over twenty-five dollars per person) Cons: The beach is riddled with rocks, even when you go out neck deep....please bring your water shoes. It is not all-inclusive, which we knew, but the prices are ridiculous. A steak dinner shared with one drink each and one appetizer...over one hundred and thirty dollars. Breakfast is horrible. They do not listen to you when you are ordering your omelet. Its not done to your specifications, and they don't care if they messed it up...they are on to the next person. The food looks like the food from the previous morning: The watermelon, cantaloupe and honeydew was like rubber, the cheese had the hardness around the edges, just like the meats; the bacon was overcooked, the yogurt was rancid. The coffee, juice, scrambled eggs and bread was the best part of breakfast. Drinks barely have alcohol and you are paying top dollar. The resort offers no entertainment....unless you count the person playing the guitar horribly at the bar. The music they play...laughable. The same five songs over and over. Everyone pretty much had their own music and speakers. Since there is no entertainment, you would want to explore. Everything is far from this place...no walking to the fun. You would either a car or Uber to it. Be prepared to spend about forty-five dollars for a 45 min drive to Old san Juan with Uber, more if you use a taxi. If you come on a Thursday, like we did, excursions would pretty much be booked for Friday and Saturday....sucks big time. Pros: The bellhops, get to know them. They always had advice for off the resort fun. We always tipped them every trip to our room. Hammocks....very comfortable. Beach at night, just to hang out and listen to music. Barely anyone there at that time, so enjoy a cigar and music. Plenty of seating throughout the resort.... That's all of the pros....sorry...Not a great place to be. My suggestion....El San Juan resort or someplace closer to either San Juan or Old San Juan.

Far from the best

The Gran Melia is very large and isolated from the rest of the island. The customer service is very, very poor. Check in took us 2 hours of waiting in a line that we thought would never end (we were told that sometimes it takes 3). The pool bar closes at 7 pm and the pool closes at 8. You're on vacation not at a 12 year old"s birthday party. We asked for extra pillows to be put in our rooms one night thinking that they would be there when we returned. They were not, so we just went to sleep. After 11 we got a knock on the door with the pillows. The rooms smelt very musty and no matter what we did the smell never went away. We enjoyed our vacation, just not at the resort. We will not be returning to the Gran Melia

A nook in paradise

Well it was our first time at Melia Cocoa Beach Puerto Rico and it was fabulous! I'm going to write based on the product rating categories. Value You cannot beat the price, for all what we got it was plenty. However, since it was not an all inclusive, some kind of free breakfast or something like that would of been nice. You end up spending a pretty penny on food while your there. Service The service was impeccible and couldnt ask for anything more. I felt taken care of and there were ***NO SALES FOR BUY A TIME SHARE***! Beach and Pools Ok so the beach wasnt that great, but when your with your girlfriend, it doesnt really matter, you just want peaceful time with her, but if that matters to you then be prepared. There is only one pool, but it was large enough that you never felt crowded in the pool. Dining Options We had breakfast one time in the restaurant and it was perfect. Again, a little costly so we didnt do that again. We went out on the street for food after renting a car for the weekend. Room Comfort The room was perfect. It wasnt too small, it was divided and it was spacious, clean and a perfect view on the terrace. Overall. I've been to a few resorts and its always a different experience, but I always want to walk away with would I come back there again. The answer is yes, I would. I would add it bit more entertainment in the evening. We had a rental car so we got a chance to really see Puerto Rico, but there have been times where I dont want to go anywhere and just be at the resort. I would do something about the cost of food and how many times you have to pay for food during your stay. After this beautiful trip you ended seeing your bill on just food, its a little bit of a bummer. If you have the cash to spend, then no worries, enjoy. Its a perfect getaway. Thank you Melia Cocoa for putting in so much time into an amazing experience.
