Good choice for the right price

The hotel has a beautiful layout and huge pool, but definitely shows wear and tear. The grounds are groomed very well, including the magnificent water features and coy pond (high marks to the grounds keepers). The equipment and pools need maintenance. Only a couple of pool umbrellas and most were broken --insufficient for the hot sun. Hot tub not working. Room was big with huge bathroom and nice kitchen. Again maintenance required --faucet was loose and sofa cushions icky. Bedding is clean and comfortable (makes up for any other shortcomings.) The pool is really big, so that is a nice plus. No crowding. The beach isn't good for swimming --rocky and grassey. Great for spotting sea life running around in their shells. No chairs unless you drag one from the pool. Breakfast was awesome. It was included in our rate. The breakfast staff are great, friendly otherwise customer service was average.

Service was average. They had us booked for the wrong dates and we didn't get the room type we paid for due to renovations. Red Level didn't really get us much extra. Not all restaurants were open each night. Slim pickings there.

Disappointed with this resort

This was my first trip to puerto rico. I am disappointed with the transportation and hidden fees and scams. Catching a cab from the airport to the resort was $75, but on the cab it says they charge $30hr. So i suggest you get a rental car immediately or prepare to pay double in fares. On the resort i was not happy with the restaurants. Only 1 out of 3 restaurants took cash. Also the food and drinks are over priced. It seems that if you dont have a rental car you are stuck. There is a 4 mile ride just to exit the resort. Also you can have food delivered but they wont tell you that. The delivery driver has to meet you at the gate closest to the lobby. But beware of what you eat and order. I order some shrimp lo mein and it spoiled over night. The smell was horrible like the food expired before it was cooked. Other than that, the resort is beautiful. Very polite staff. I even made a few friends there.
