Gran Caribe Real Resort & Spa is FABULOUS!!!
We vacationed during 8/30 - 9/3. We were slightly delayed due to Hurricane Irene, but the Resort graciously extended our stay. The resort and its amenities are fabulous!! Service is supreme! The pools and beach area were well maintained. The greatest attraction for us with young kids was the "kids club" which worked out really well. They even had a kids Hawaiian party on the beach. The restaurants offered a wide variety of service ranging from formal sit-down dinner to casual buffet. Regardless of which type of dinner service you opted for, there was always a waiter to tend to your beverage needs and just to make sure you were satisfied. The guest services were very helpful.....we didn't even leave the resort for any external excursions because everything was right there. They even have evening shows to entertain adults. And this is after a day full of pool activities; or you could relax with a massage. This is a fabulous place to stay for families and singles, and we intend to go back again!!

False start, great win!
I arrived to find my daughter and her friend assigned to an older dingy room. Since this was their first visit to Gran Caribe Real, Cancun and Even Mexico, I was embarrassed that I had chosen this property. Because I was a 6th time returning guest to Real properties, I was aghast that this type of room even existed! And even though my record indicated returning guest, first desk clerk admitted he had not read it!
However, a replacement desk clerk ( first one was really just so blasé) wound Into gear, moved us to a great room, and recognized my status as a returning guest.
The rest of the week was up to Real standards and more. Just make sure you request a room on the north side of the property, not near the spa or snack bar or hot tub!
My family and I visited the Gran Caribe lastyear and had a wonderful experience. That's why we went back. We are a family of five, three men & two women. We were treated like queens & kings from July 27 - Aug 02, 2011. The staff went out of their way for our every wish. All of the restaurants had great food & the all the bars were fully stocked & with a knowledgable staff of every drink known. The pool & beach areas were clean with activities all day. The room was kept clean with super service. All in all the a great value for the money. We will definitely visit again !!!
We arrived to the resort a little early. The man at the desk tried to talk us into an upgrade on our room and even took us to the rooms out in the rain to show them to us. The upgrade would have cost $35 per night per person - we had 5 people in two rooms and I couldn't see spending the extra amount of $. As we disappointed him by telling him no, he took us back to the front desk, told us to leave our bags with the bell desk, and come back around 3:30pm to check in. We went back at 3:30 and were told the rooms were all booked :-( But, management was contacted and they decided to give us a room upgrade for one night?? (I started smelling something fishy at this point) As we went to our upgraded rooms - low and behold they were the suites we had looked at earlier in the day!!! Since we only had the upgrade for one night we had to check into our regular room the next day. This room was AWFUL as it was right next to the main hallway of the resort. We could hear everyone that walked by and the doorway to the stairs was right outside our room. We were woken up constantly by screams of party goers echoing in the hallway and people using the stairs as the door slammed everytime someone used it.
The food at the buffet was bland and it was the same thing day after day. The pool was beautiful and activities there were fun. Cocktail waitresses in the bar were hit or miss. We'll try somewhere else next time :-(

According to www.cancuncare.com, Cancun hurricane season lasts from June to November with the highest chance of a hurricane occurring being in September and October. There have been two major hurricane events in Cancun's tourism history. Hurricane Gilbert in 1988 and Hurricane Wilma 2005. Hurricanes don't hit Cancun every year, however, there is always a chance of experiencing a hurricane or tropical storm during this time of year.

We went at the tail end of August into early September. The weather was perfect; only had one day of afternoon showers which cleared up in less than an hour.
