Cortez spent his life searching for the Lost Cities of Gold. Too bad he didn't know about all inclusive; he might have given up and settled for Gran Bahia Principe Tulum. In the midst of the Mayan rainforest, Gran Bahia Principe Tulum, Riviera Maya, inspired by the Puuc Mayan architectural period, was developed with environmental concerns in mind. The resort has carefully maintained the natural order of the beaches, surrounding countryside and foliage. They've taken all inclusive and gone green.

Great value
This was our first all inclusive vacation and we were very pleased with our overall experience at the Gran Bahia Principe Tulum. We really enjoyed our 3 dinner reservations at La Gran Tortuga, Tequila, and Frutos Del Mar. The service at the restuarants was excellent and the pace of the meal was perfect..........not rushed at all but yet not to slow, what a wonderful dining experience. The only down side we saw with the trip was the rockiness of the beach at Gran Bahia Principe Tulum. We were really looking forward to being in the ocean much more than we were. We did discover that walking down the beach to the Akumal resort that their beach was much much better. We wish we would have asked about this at Guest Services, they were so helpful with everything else, we just didn't think to ask. We would recommend this resort to anyone looking for a great value but is not necessarily wanting the "beach/ocean" experience.
The Gran Bahia Principe is a fantastic experience from the time you enter the main lobby. The staff goes overboard to make you feel welcome. The buffet is overflowing with dining options to fit any taste. The swim-up bar at the Tulum was a constant high-vibe experience. The beach runs on for ever!
Pools, hamocks, volley ball, arobics, activity staff, quiet secluded spaces, phenominal high caliber golf, scuba, evening shows, dancing to live music after dinner, what else can you ask for?
The room was nice. We were showed right to our room. Our luggage was delivered to our room promptly. The shower was very nice, not lacking in pressure or hot water. We always has plenty of towels. The bed was not comfortable at all. It dipped in the middle. The pillows were very nice and cool, especially on a sunburned face. The A.C. worked very well, there was a coffee maker, Iron board, Iron and Hair dryer in the room. Also have a safe you can use for a fee per day.
The resturaunts: For breakfast we went to two different returaunts that had buffets in the morning. The first day the one we went to opened 10 minutes late and they were not ready for us when they did finally open, so from then on we made it a point to go a little later than 7am. The food was generally good, some times the sausage looked overcooked, you can always have an omlete made if you want. On our last day we went to one of the buffets at 7am, not open yet, 10 minutes sir. Ok, so we walked to the other one and we waited.........7:20 and they finally opened. Got to the buffet and there was no chef to do omletes, the toasters were not working, we put down our plates and walked back to the other buffet which was open by this time.
We had to make reservations for an Al A Carte resturaunt and when we got in there it was only half full, don't really understand why reservations are required when the resturaunts are only half full. Why not let walk ups come in if they are not full? The food was AWESOME, we went to the Torutunga, Brazillian Steak house. We were not dissapointed in the food or the service there.
The Beach: The actual beach is very nice. There is a lot of places where there is coral so it does make it hard to get in the ocean for a swim, but there are places where ther is no coral so you can go in. You can always walk down the beach to the Akumel side and swim there. We never had a problem finding a chair on the beach and the do have signs that say there is no saving of chairs with towels. The pools were nice and chairs were plenty. Plenty of places to walk to on the beach and on the grounds of the resort.
The Bars: we mostly went to pool side bars and they were great. Good drinks and we drank plenty..
Our excursions were ok. We went to see Tulum and Coba Mayan Ruins. When we went to Tulum it included a 2.5 hour sail, some snorkeling, some time at he beach and then the Tulum ruins. The sailing was a partying drink fest, didn't think that was appropriate since we were going to go snorkeling in just a bit. The water was real ruff so snorkeling was not the best, but there is nothing they could do about that. I was dissapointed that there were no showers to rinse off after being in the salt water, on the beach, but I survived. The big dissapointment was we were supposed to get an hour of guided tour and an hour to roam around on our own in the ruins. At both the Tulum and the Coba express excursions the guides talked the whole time and we had very little time to go on our own, by the time Tulum guide was done it was the time we were supposed to meet back at the bus. Coba, we had time to try to climb the ruin and get back and do some shopping in the shops in the parking lot. We did get water and snacks on the Coba express tour. The guides for both excursions were very good and interesting and you could tell that they were enthusiastic about telling you about the ruins and their history, just would have liked a bit more time to "roam" around.
Overall, it was OK, the food was OK, unfortunately I downgraded them because of their inability to open on time and be ready when they did finally open. We had several days of nice sunny beach time, soaking up the sun. We did see plenty of Iguanas in the afternoons.

Definitely Going Back!
I just returned from a wonderful vacation stay at the Gran Bahia Principe Tulum. This was my third stay at the resort, and they never fail to exceed my expectations.
The resort complex is made up of three interconnected resorts (Gran Bahia Principe Tulum, GBP Coba and GBP Akumal), and all the amenities are accessible to anyone staying at any of the three. That means you can choose entertainment from any of the three theaters, visit any of the specialty reservation restaurants, enjoy any of the many buffets and bars on all three properties, and enjoy all of the pool areas. I love the long beach walk from end to end, and the little swing bar makes a great resting spot!
Thank you Cheap Caribbean for making all the arrangements so easy! I'll be back!

Hotel Description
Gran Bahia Principe Tulum: The All Inclusive Way to Go Green
Cortez spent his life searching for the Lost Cities of Gold. Too bad he didn't know about all inclusive; he might have given up and settled for Gran Bahia Principe Tulum. In the midst of the Mayan rainforest, Gran Bahia Principe Tulum, Riviera Maya, inspired by the Puuc Mayan architectural period, was developed with environmental concerns in mind. The resort has carefully maintained the natural order of the beaches, surrounding countryside and foliage. They've taken all inclusive and gone green.
Whether it's the lake-style pools, there are three, or swimming with the dolphins, water is a big part of this resort. Opt for the terrace to work on your tan, or hit the picture-perfect beach to lounge as the waves lull you into an afternoon nap.
Looking to test your jungle skills? Tackle the Riviera Maya Golf Course thanks to free greens fees for guests of the hotel; this work of art, designed by Robert Trent Jones II, is an extraordinary compilation of 36 holes and stretched fairways that wind through tropical landscapes, including natural lakes and freshwater wells intended to challenge and inspire.
Guests of Gran Bahia Principe Tulum enjoy the amenities at sister resorts Akumal & Coba, as well as in their home resort. A commercial center and the Hacienda Dona Isabel entertainment center, are located within the complex for easy shopping. And they've spared no expense in creating an oasis of relaxation, like a spa that offers a delicious Mayan Chocolate Dreams treatment, a body-exfoliating, massage experience that ends with a moisturizing cream to prepare the skin for tanning.
Grab your safari hat and explore the nearby Mayan ruins of Tulum with the kids, or seek out a cave-diving expedition at one of the nearby cenotes, where you'll be guided through freshwater sinkholes, deep in the ancient caverns of the Mayan Riviera.
Return to your Superior Club Hacienda for a quick nap in a comfy bed, or settle on your private balcony and dip into the mini bar. It's best you rest now; you've still got the night.
