Advices:
DO NOT USE SPIRIT AIRLINES- they tend to book your return flight too close to your connection flight. Remember that when you land to Ft Lauderdale airport you have to go through immigration (at least a 2 hr line) then you have to claim you luggage then go through TSA inspection again. Spirit will book your flight 40 minutes between your connection flights. I talked to immigration personnel and he told us that Spirit airlines are known for this issue. Remember there are also other airlines that serves Dominican Republic so be aware that there might be a few flights landing at the same flights.
Buy the round trip transfer from the airport to the hotel. It’s a lot cheaper and safer. Cheap Caribbean has a member outside managing the transportation to your resort. But it’s outside so be ready to sweat a little. Alfonso (Cheap Caribbean agent at Gran Bahia) is very helpful and a subject expert on excursions. Highly recommend the trip to Sanoa Island.
Sanoa Island trip – wear water shoes $10 at Sports Authority a must for Sanoa Island beach. Wear your swimming attire.
BUY 100 SPF sun bloker, you will thank me later.
Upgrade to Golden Room – you will have priority restaurant booking, air conditioned reception area when you check-in, drinks during check-in, great room location near the beach and pool. We stayed at 2716 and it was the room closest to the beach and pool.
Get $100 worth of singles. TIP $1 to the people who served you and they will remember you. Especially the bartender and they tend to put more alcohol on your drinks.
Lastly, smile and you will have a GREAT RELAXING TIME.

my first resort
I had a great time, great drinks, mamajuanas all day... the resort is very calm and relax. wait staff was very friendly. FOOD IS NOT GREAT, ITS EDIBLE AND THERES A GOOD VARIETY, the most dominican it got was mongu one morning, breakfast is the best...try to make reservations at their restaurants... do an excurion and if possible bring your spanish speaking friend.
My friends and I just came back from a few days at Gran Bahia.
Overall we had a great time and would go back when the pricing is right.
The staff were courteous, friendly, multi-lingual and work very hard to see to your comfort and entertain you. We had alot of fun dancing and with the aerobics sessions. The rooms and general areas were nicely maintained. We spent most of the time in the pool and by the pool bar. The beach has hard packed fine sand and the water is a bit murky but calm. The best food was at the buffet, we gave up on the specialty restaurants after the 2nd try. Make sure to bring small bills to tip. I know it's not mandated as it is all inclusive but their staff deserve it and they are very appreciative. Tip: Bring a insulated bottle/thermos so your cocktails or iced drinks dont melt. Definitely go with the upgrade to the Golden Club as we got Towels delivered, faster room service,robes/slippers, a room at the beach/pool area and access the club office (private concierge, premium liquor/drink access, internet, light snacks, etc). The night life was slow, so I recommended bringing books, cards, games. They have evening entertainment but it usually ended by 10pm. Their onsite night club doesnt open until 12am. We ended purchasing dominoes/cards and hung out by the bar.

La Romana
We really enjoyed the Bahia principe. The only thing that we didn't find to be the best at times was the quality of the food. THey seem to focus on presentation more so than the quality of the product that they're preparing. Grounds were gorgeous, people were friendly, the beach and palm trees were very beautiful as well.
Overall, a very nice experience.

Whats the best hotel for a bachelor party in the dominican republic?3 answers
We want to have ten guys come down to the dominican republic and we are looking for an all-inclusive resort but that is not far from city life so we have the options of leaving the premises. I have heard great things about Sosua, but am having a hard time finding a resort close to it or in sosua. We are looking for hotel that will have a fun social life/ busy pool scene.

Check the Viva Wyndham Tangerine in Cabarete, It is close enough to walk to the town. These beaches here are famous for kite surfing and one of the beaches close to the resort is called Kite beach. We stayed there last October. CheapCaribbean has them on their web site
Fatcat
CheapCaribbean.com's website has a tool that would be able to narrow down your search for what you are looking for in a vacation. Please proceed to the blue toolbar stating "HOTELS" and select "HOTEL FINDER". This will allow you to choose what you are looking for in a vacation package and choose the best resort for you.
Please note: Most, if not all, resorts in the Domician Republic are designed for guests not to leave the property as they hold the nightlife and entertainment on property. The city may not be a recommedable place to travel to. If you are interested in traveling into the city our suggestion would be to speak with the front desk or conceirge desk for recommended taxi services and places to travel to that are safe.
DanielleCC
Then you need to go to Punta Cana or purto Plata. You want to go to an adults only resort. Speak to the bartender and tip him well with American money and he will take all ten of you into town for a bachelor party YOU WILL NEVER FORGET!!!!!!!!!!!

how can i book a package without air?3 answers
1 year, 14 months ago
DR_8802
Not all of our hotels can be booked without airfare. The best way to find what is available to book land only is to use the gold Create Your Own Vacation box and select the Hotel Only tab on the top left. Pick your destination and dates and the site will pull up all of the hotels in a particular destination that can be booked without airfare.
JenCC
Yes, you can, several airlnes have regular scheduled flights to the Dominican Republic, and Cheap Caribbean can assit with resort reservation and ground transportation. However because of valume of customers and standing agreements, in most cases Cheap Caribbean can get you a better price. (::)

I am not sure if the offer that option

THE HOTEL ITSELF HAS MANY SPECIALS CALL THEM DIRECTLY. OR SPEAK TO A REP FROM CHEAPCARIBBEAN THEY COULD MAKE IT HAPPEN FOR YOU.

Family Vacation-5 adults3 answers
I am meeting my parents in DR for a family vacation and want to stay in an all-inclusive resort not too far from SDQ but with a great beach. We only want to get two rooms to save money so one of the rooms should acommodate 3 adults. Any suggestions? We will stay for 4 nights.

kari
The Dominican Republic has many options available in the SDQ area. You may search for a property by going to Cheapcaribbean.com. On the home page, left hand side you will see a large orange box where you can create yor own vacation. Select the airport you will be departing from and the airport you will be flying to in the Dominican Republic. You will then select your dates of travel, number of rooms required and the number of guests in each room. When you click on Search all the availble properties matching that criteria will be displayed. Feel free to call one of our desination specialists should you need further assistance.

ps. beach is decent.

This is a great jotel. The rooms are very large. The resort may be able to accomadate having three adults for one room. You can have standard a large suite with two bed and a couch or one king size bed and a couch. I have to continue to state the room are large. Besides the rooms being large they each have their own private balconies. There are all soughts of different resturants and great food. The chefs are all on site. The land scaping is great all around the resort and its family oriented. The staff is very friendly. This would be a great vacation choice. My wife and I just came back from there last week.

Is there a shuttle to hotel from airport?2 answers
Some reviews indicate that there is an issue with the airport to hotel shuttle. IE- did not show to pick them up. Is this supposed to be a guaranteed shuttle that is free of charge or should people be prepared to pay for cab?

Cheap Caribbean offers the option to purchase roundtrip airport transfers to the Gran Bahia Principe in La Romana. Our packages to this resort fly into Santo Domingo Airport. We can also customize a package going into La Romana Airport as well. When booking airport transfers we send a copy of your flight itinerary to the transportation company so that someone will be waiting for you upon your arrival.
MeganCC
We booked shuttle service via Cheap Carribean. You meet them just outside arrivals in Santo Domingo airport. Make sure to have your voucher printed out. For the return trip, you will need to meet with the Cheap Carribean rep at your resort for confirmation. I have used shuttle service for (2) trips at La Romana resorts and didnt have any issues. They were always on schedule.

It says Kids 12 and under stay and eat for free but how do I book their flights with the 2 adults?1 answer
3 weeks ago
Ohio
When you are pricing out your trip, simply select the number of passenger as two adults and two children, and select the ages of the children. As you proceed through the booking it will price the airfare for 4 people. The resort will also have a reservation for 4 people but will only charge for the two adults. If you select transfers or any additional excursions or insurance the system will price for all four individuals.

quality of water in June2 answers
Hi,
we are staying at the Gran Bahia in La Romana and are wondering if the Bay is swimmable . We have heard conflicting reports. We are traveling in June.
starstorm
We also have had reports or people that state that the ocean water is not easily swimmable because of the river that connects with the ocean on the beach, but other people have advised that it was definitely swimmable. Whether the water is swimmable is dependent upon the weather and water conditions at the time of travel, and can definitely vary.
KristinCC
Just got back last week and the answer is NO. The water there is not pretty and clear. I could not see the bottom of the water at any point and could not see because it was not clear when I tried to snorkel. Please do not waste your money or time and go to this hotel. The food is horrible and it is in the middle of nowhere. Please read my review on this hotel.

Iberostar La romana1 answer
Hi,
I am going to switch my resort from Gran Bahia to Iberostar in La Romana. Has anybody traveled there that can tell me something about the beach in that time frame. I booked the wrong area by accident...meant to travel to Punta Cana. Im having concerns and am consiidering rebooking the trip entirely.
startsorm
The beach at Iberostar is very nice and the resort is lovely. If you have a reservation already and are considering changing your destination, keep in mind that changing your flights is very expensive after penalties and increased air are factored in. Moving to another resort in the same locale, from an economic point of view, is a better option if there are acceptable alternatives.

What is the quality/price of top shelf drinksl?1 answer
I have read a lot of reviews that say the drinks are watered down and not exceptional. I also read that after 11 p.m. you have to pay for drinks. I am leaving in three weeks for a four night stay and want to know if I should plan on buying a bottle of liquor at the airport before I go? Thanks!

Brooklyn, NY
Word of advice, tip the bartender $1 everytime you order a drink and I guarantee you alcohol content on your drink will not be an issue. I have to order 2 extra drink with no alcohol bec they put too much alcohol on my drink. They serve alcohol 24 hrs theres no such thing as time limit.

Is the resort all inclusive except specialty restaurant?2 answers
I have been reading a lot of review about the specialty restaurants. It says that you can only go a few times a week. I am going on a four night three day vacation with my boyfriend and I was looking forward to having a special dinner one night but I am not sure if we will be able to. Does anyone know the protocol for dinning when you don't stay for a full week? Also, if we have to pay for the special restaurants is it worth it? (I have read that the food is not too good.) Thanks!
Brooklyn, NY
Book the dinner when you check-in right away. You have to wear casual attire. I have no clue why people are not satisfied with the food but me and my wife have zero issues with the food unless your the kind that are really super picky. If you order lobster when not in menu then yes you will have to pay but it's all inclusive and you don't have to pay on the specialty restaurant.
apalma0609
A four night stay entitles you to one dinner at one of the a l a carte restaurants. This is part of your all inclusive package and you would not pay additionally.

Hotel Description
Paradise at the Gran Bahia Principe La Romana
Fronds on the coconut palms sway lazily in the tropical breeze. You reach for your mai tai, realizing you've discovered paradise at Gran Bahia Principe La Romana. From its location on an isolated stretch of beach in the Dominican Republic, this all inclusive resort promises the chance to escape.
The lake-style pool, with islands, is an attractive centerpiece and a great place to play. Daily activities include water-resistance exercises as well as games. After the exercises, visit the swim-up bar for a mojito before heading over to one of the three Jacuzzis to unwind. Did we mention there's a special area for kids?
If you want to pamper yourself, aromatherapy at the spa is just what the doctor ordered. This signature treatment begins with a sauna and cold bath with aromatic immersion, followed by exfoliation, a body massage and a facial massage before wrapping up your session in a water bed. We love the body treatments with chocolate and exotic Caribbean massages.
Now you're ready to plow through the waves on a boogie board or a kayak. If you prefer the wind at your back, grab a windsurfing rig and test your agility. Or, if the muted sounds and dazzling colors of the underwater world lure you, strap on a facemask and snorkel your way to the hidden beauty of the Caribbean.
When it's dinner time, try the duck with orange jelly or rack of lamb with ratatouille at Le Gourmet, one of the premier restaurants at Gran Bahia Principe La Romana. From churros fried while you watch, to butter imported from New Zealand, Orquedea goes the extra mile. After a delicious meal, you'll find it easy to relax in the comfort of one of the Junior Suites.
One off-site excursion to include on your "must-do" list is an outing to Santo Domingo. The trip is an immersion into the wonders of 16th-century island life and includes the Castle of Columbus. The trip includes time for shopping and the magical Three Eyes Cave.
