Great Overall Experience

4 of my closest college roommates and I went to the GR Solaris for Spring break last week and had an amazing time! It was the perfect combination of relaxing and beautiful as well as fun and lively! Compared to other "spring break hotels" this one was clean, great food, wonderful staff, safe and yet an absolute blast to be at! There was an awesome mix of people that we were all very friendly with throughout the entire trip. The staff at the front desk, concierge, bartenders and wait staff were always helpful accommodating and friendly people to be around! They even steered us away from bad deals and party packages that we otherwise would have been scammed into! I truly feel as though after the deal I got and the experience I received I owe this trip more $$ than I paid!! Go GR SOLARIS!

Great trip to Cancun !!

This resort is great!! From the time we got to the resort to the time we left everything and everyone was superb. We were in our room within 15 minutes of checking in. The bartenders at all the locations were great ! ( by the time we left the bartenders would have our drinks started when we walked up ). regardless of the bad reviews on the food my wife and I thought it was great, plus 24 hour room service you can't go wrong. Every staff member went out of their way to help you. We have been to other resorts before this one is good!!

Overall Good Vacation!

Overall, this was an amazing trip to a really good resort. Upon arrival, we were greeted and went to check-in. Unfortunately, due to a recent water line break, our room that we purchased was unavailable (and the gym was closed as well due to the water damage). They offered to send us to another resort for a night which seemed excessive so we decided to just stay at a different room at the resort. That worked out great except they didn't really comp us at all for the inconvenience which was frustrating especially since that was 1/4 of our trip (we stayed for 4 nights). I was just hoping for free wifi for our stay, money off the room the first night, an excursion, club tickets for a night; just something! But oh well. After the first night, we just checked out of the hotel then checked back in later the same day into our purchased room. Logistically, it was a slight inconvenience, just wish they handled it better on the customer service end. As for the resort, it was beautiful. The lobby area, pools, resort grounds, beach, dining areas, and rooms were all very nice. All of the staff was friendly and always helpful. There were minor issues here and there like not being able to get a hold of room service or one day our room wasn't cleaned; but at the time a lot of college students arrived for spring break so the hotel was quite busy. That isn't an excuse for them, but I just wanted to note that. There are 3 pools, one of which is for adults only. The adults only pool also has a hot tub which was always crowded, but it was still a nice feature. The one main pool on the first level has a swim up bar which is really nice. Each day there were activities outside the pool too and they play music. The beach was also very nice. During our trip it was very windy the entire time so we couldn't really swim or sit on the beach, but it still was very nice. There is also a lifeguard there during the day. Each night there are shows in a 'theater' in the resort. Sometimes there is food before it, sometimes just snacks and drinks. During our stay our favorite show was the magic show which was really enjoyable. The resort also has an entertainment staff who sell you tickets to the clubs and different attractions in the city. During our stay, the tickets were extremely expensive and to us not worth it so we didn't do it. But we did venture into the market one of the days which was very fun. Its a hectic, crazy, fun environment. It can also be overwhelming if you aren't used to it. But definitely something I recommend doing during your time in Cancun. The room was awesome. It wasn't the most modern room, but they kept it very clean and well maintained. There was a nice balcony and large bathroom which included a nice open shower. I really don't have any complaints about the room. It very nice! Unfortunately, I left the worst for last...the food and drinks. They have a variety of tropical drinks and plenty of bars. But just be aware they use very cheap alcohol and it all depends on how your particular bartender makes your drink that matters. Then the food. That was the worst part of the trip for us. Firstly, no where does it say you need long pants for the Marco Polo restaurant, but you do! So make sure to bring casual attire if you want to go to that restaurant. The rest of the places to eat don't have a dress code. The food wasn't very good at any of the places and the selection was limited. There was never any 'comfort food' so make sure you are in the mood to try different kinds of food and find a few things you like. Overall, except for the food, I would definitely recommend GR Solaris! We had an amazing time and didn't let any of the small stuff bother us. Its a beautiful resort and I guarantee you will have fun.

Budget all-inclusive Resort - 3 stars max

This Resort is definitely a budget all-inclusive resort. We have a few positive instances, but overall more negatives to share. Let's start with the "bad news", so here are some areas of improvement: - Front Desk: please try to do more than check-in and check-out! We got there at 11:36AM and we didn't get a room until past 4PM! After checking to see if we had a room more than 4 times, the manager was called (not by me, but by the front desk that was annoyed with the housekeepers for taking so long) and we got an upgrade - thank goodness, because i was not impressed with the upgraded room, so i am terrified to know what the deluxe room looked like. We did requested to have a room far from the elevator and they granted it. Also, the front desk peeps are no help and looks like they do not want to be there (they probably don't, but since they are, they should approach with a more positive face). I asked a few questions about the activities in the resort and they always pushed to the "concierge" that is non-existent! It is one desk to sell excursions...FYI. I have more to say about the front desk, but since i have limited space for review, here is a few ideas of what a truly front desk service should offer: currency exchange, Resort information such as restaurant locations, activities for kids, etc. - Room: As mentioned above, we booked a deluxe room and due to the circumstances we got an "ocean view" with Jacuzzi and balcony. The view was partial, but beautiful and we didn't care for the Jacuzzi. The balcony was nice, BUT the housekeepers in the morning would clean the apartments above and sweep all the bottle caps and cigarette buds in our balcony - i saw it first hand as I almost got hit by a beer bottle metal cap! The balcony also seems to still be under construction because it had paint splashed everywhere, so every time i had to get paint out of my feet. The bed was a king, however the mattress was super HARD - like wood hard. The room is small and the bathroom super small too. - Food: hum...really need improvement. We liked the breakfast buffet and the cheese and toast that they offered, but the lunch and dinner options are not good. The Marco Polo needs reservation what we did to see if it was a little better and no, same bland food. I actually felt i ate better Mexican food in the US than at this resort... The ZAI restaurant was closed Friday and Saturday and we could not make a reservation on Thursday for Sunday (weird!), so Monday we left and we were not able to try that one. - Overall facilities: Common areas are due for updates, really need some TLC on the restrooms and children areas. The kids area is very old, the slides are extremely faded and the materials are due for refurbishment. The restrooms: most of the stalls are broken and you cannot close/lock the doors. They do not offer baby changing tables on all restrooms, so i had to look for the ones that do. - Services: The staff are nice, HOWEVER only if you TIP! They know who you are and if you are a tipping person or not! We did tip and noticed the difference in treatment...reason being sometimes on breakfast we did not and our waiter did not even look to our face. They also said it very firmly when we left breakfast one of the days we didn't have change ($1 or $5): "Hasta luego amigo" - starring at us like we are bad people...isn't this resort all inclusive? Didn't know i had to tip for every single thing. I will not recommend and will not go back to this hotel. It was a budget experience and i learned that sometimes spending a few hundred dollars will make you have a MUCH better experience. TIP: Bring TIP money. Thanks! PB

What We'd Change

Cancun is a busy place, but that's what you're here for - good times, the beach, pools, and sunny weather.

Why You Should Go

Located in the heart of Cancun - you'll land and be sittin' pretty beachside in no time at all.

Late-night munchies can be satisfied by the Deli, open from 4 p.m. to 6:30 a.m. (Nosh away, any time).

Try the mud wrap at the resort's spa - it'll really brighten up your sun-drenched skin

For you athletes, there's tennis and beach volleyball. (Let's see those guns).

You can enjoy a romantic dinner on the beach for two and listen to the purr of the ocean. (Swoon).

A hot spot for the kiddos - a Mini Club with shallow pools, activities, video games like Nintendo, Wii and Xbox 360. Gotta keep those young ones (teens included) happy and melt-down free!
