Beautiful vacation

Super friendly staff. Beautiful resort. Room was good nothing special. Comfortable and clean. Food was good. There really is only one restaurant on site. Some of the food was amazing. And some food was average. The Buffett did get a little old but you can order off the menu. We didn't eat at the pool bar or lounge but it appeared to be snack stuff such as pizza, nachos, hamburgers. Some up charges for some of the menu items. Drinks were typical of all inclusive (light on the alcohol). 2 pools. Ocean is right there across the street. (Not really a street, more like a wider path). Vendors were not pushy. Amazing sunset. We walked into town which took about 1 minute. A few restaurants but we didn't eat at any of them. Overall a great vacation. Great staff. Would definitely recommend. And hopefully we will back soon!

Great experience!

My girlfriend and I stayed here for a few nights in January and had an amazing experience. Besides the country being absolutely beautiful, everyone is incredibly nice and all seem to work very hard. The country feels safe and pretty well developed. Even the bathrooms in the middle of the forest were spectacular and clean. The resort is beautiful. It is right on the beach (absolutely no rocks, no seaweed, and the Ocean can have decent sized waves at time and be pretty calm at others). The food was incredible. Some people wrote in their reviews that the fact that there is only one dining location turned them off a little bit, which was a concern of ours. They have a different theme every night and you can order off the menu for free (as part of the all inclusive) and the food rivals the food I can get an above average restaurant in NYC. I have been to a number of all inclusive resorts and by all inclusive standards I think the food is amazing. Non existant nightlife (other than a drink at the bar) but we were up early for excursions and beach and what not anyway so didnt matter. Staff was incredible - super helpful, super nice, spoke english fluently, everything you could want. Loved this place, highly reccommend it. I have never written a review of a vacation before so this in and of itself is a big deal.

Like a Motel 8 on the best beach EVER!!!

As long as you believe the reviews you read, this is a nice beach escape. It's true, the showers have no water pressure. The air conditioners in the rooms "chirp" LOUDLY every half an hour and you can't turn the noise off without turning the system off. The nacho plate is made with velveeta-like sauce, instead of the "cheddar cheese" the menu claims to use (which makes me highly suspicious of the claim that any of their food is grown organically in their garden). The rooms are not well-presented - it's a motel, not a resort. There are vendors on the beach (but they were not as pushy as some that I have encountered before). There is a road that separates the hotel from the beach that you have to cross to get to the beach. There's no great snorkeling nearby. But... Flamingo Beach is an AWESOME walking beach - it has the perfect waves for body-surfing, it is clean, there are no other hotels nearby on the beach (although there are a few condos), and the small marina town nearby is a sweet area to wander around. Even though the nachos are made with velveeta, the rest of the food at the restaurant was delicious, and seemed to be made, for the most part, from scratch. It was fun, also, to have a tennis court on the premises. We chose the all-inclusive package, which would be the only way to go for a family because the menu prices are CRAZY and dining nearby is a bit hit or miss. For some reason, the hotel makes you sign a bill for every meal you have, despite having an all-inclusive package. So, three times a day, you get to see that your meals are being charged to others at unbelievably high prices (yes, even for breakfast, and yes, even for the kids). I mean, come on, the prices were nuts. Sometimes we would stop in for the buffet and have a salad, yet would see that we would have been charged for the full buffet price (which might be the most expensive buffet I have ever eaten at any restaurant and I've been to some really nice places.) Also, they have a mini-bar where you get charged $6 a bottle for water, which is not included in the "all-inclusive" package. So, besides the feeling of being nickled and dimed (and hundred-dollar-billed) after you have paid for the all-inclusive package, and besides feeling like the menu is a bit deceptive and exorbitantly expensive, the food was, all-in-all, pretty good. I would go back because the beach was so amazing, but only if the prices for the hotel package were lowered. There were enough drawbacks to the hotel stay, however, that I would not feel comfortable recommending this place any of my friends.

Top Notch

I have absolutely nothing negative to say about this resort. My daughter and I spent 8 nights here, our first all-inclusive experience and first time in Costa Rica. From the instant we arrived, the Front Desk and Concierge employees were eager to please and on task from the time of check-in to check-out. The room was immaculate, spacious, quiet, with a roomy balcony with fan overlooking the pool. Even though there is only 1 restaurant, Arenas, on the premises, the menu was organic, diverse, and delicious. I had no idea what Costa Rican food was all about, but my compliments to the chef(s) who made every bite of food delicious. I was unsure of how the weather would be this time of year, the rainy season. I was pleasantly surprised how cooperative it was, only raining in the evenings and clearing (or partially cloudy) during the day with expected humidity. Playa Flamingo is steps away from the resort, with a few merchants selling jewelry and offering outdoor massages. We opted for the massages at the FBRS, and were not disappointed. I would highly recommend the excursion to Ricon de la Vieja, an active volcano, only a 1 hour drive away outside of Liberia. There we rode horses, ziplined, water slide, and enjoyed relaxing in hot springs. Our guide, Macho, was enlightening and fun to be with. Also, I would highly recommend the afternoon cruise and snorkeling excursion on the Lazy Lizard catamaran, moored close to the resort. The big question...would I stay at Playa Flamingo and this resort again? A definite "yes".
