Beware of "free upgrades"

We have been to Mexico several times and have stayed in better resorts but have also stayed in worse. We booked the Family Club because we were traveling with a 6 yr old...however at check-in we were told we were receiving a free upgrade to Platinum. Cool..a free upgrade! Not!! When we got checked into Platinum we were informed the benefits of the Family Club were going to cost $10 per day per person so no waterpark for my child!! I complained and they did make it right. They book on internet as 3 different resorts but when you arrive it is all 1 huge resort with 3 different sections. So beware of that also. This resort is HUGE so plan on doing alot of walking or waiting for the trolley to carry you back and forth. The food at all restaurants is mediocre including the al a carte ones..the buffets really needed more kid-friendly choices. The beach was nice but kind of dirty when we were there however Hurricane Matthew had just hit the Caribbean so we chalked it up to that. The "waterpark" was fun for my son but is really more suited to smaller children. The resort itself was clean but seemed as though it needed some maintenance. The rooms were comfortable and clean however they never left washclothes and we always had to call for some. Overall decent place to stay for the $$..we will not stay here again but I would recommend it after I explain what you are getting into.

Great hotel... Food terrible

My husband and three kids ages (11, 8, and 6) just got back (October) from the Princess resort. We stayed in the Family club with a swim out room pool. The hotel is about 45 minutes from the airport so expect a long ride after arriving. We arranged a private transport otherwise it would have been longer if u had others in van to drop off. Check in was easy and didn't have any issues with lines but could see how it might be an issue during peak season. The room was very big and updated. Perfect size for 5 of us. Kids slept on bunk bed with trundle. The beds were comfortable. If u have a small child, the top bunk is hard to get out of. There isn't a ladder and my 11 yr old had trouble. The swim out room was key! Kids loved the pool and we loved we could sit in room and watch them. Next time I would bring floats though. The family club has its own bar which was great for kids and us. Kids would go get sodas, daiquiris and Shirley temples and ice cream by themselves without bugging us to get it. The bar was never crowded and really close to us. This hotel is huge! Like several hotels in one. We never felt like it was too big in the family club but I would have no interest in the other areas. We went off season so there weren't that many people and I could still feel it being a large resort. The hotel amenities were nice. Clean and neat. The tram ran on a regular basis and was always on time. We never had to wait long like others mentioned. My kids went to kid club once and hated it. It's really geared towards 4 and 5 yr olds. They were in there 30 mins and said it was the worst part of trip. The pool in the family club is really for ages 4 and under. Now on to food. Ugh that was the worst part of trip. I wanted it to be better so we would go back but frankly it just wasn't good enough. I'm not a picky eater but had a hard time finding something decent at main buffet. We never went to family club buffet bc we heard that was worse. We tried miso and went to mama Mia twice bc my one daughter loved the octopus, and other kids loved Alfredo pasta. I thought it all was just ok at best. Miso was nothing to write home about either. We had an easy time making reservations for restaurants. Because it was off season the restaurants would alternate on days they were open. We did find a taco stand by one of the pools that was best thing we ate on the trip. The ice cream restaurant was good but one night they were out of most flavors. The drinks were not watered down and good except for the red wine. It was horrible. I'm not a big red wine snob... Usually drink $10 bottles but I couldn't get their brand down. White wine was okay and had dos Equis on draft. In the evening we went to three shows. Saw the salsa, fire, and pirate show. My girls loved the salsa and my son loved the fire show. The pirate show was a break dancing/dancing show which they all liked too. I thought the shows were really good! They started at 8 and some at 8:30. We did two excursions. Swimming with dolphins and a catamaran snorkel cruise. Both were a lot of fun. Swimming with dolphins was fun and kids liked it but it was a one and done excursion. It seemed like it was more about getting u to buy pictures than learning about the animal. The snorkeling was fun and I was amazed how well kids did. We saw sting ray, turtle, squid and various fish. It wasn't the best snorkeling I've done on different islands but was a good starting point for kids and offered different variety of fish. The beach was clean. Not that much algae which I was afraid of. There were rows and rows of chairs so u have to like a crowded beach. I'm not a big fan of that and we only would up going to beach twice. Bar was very crowded. Kids had so much fun in pool that's were they wanted to be. All in all, it was a fun vacation. I would highly recommend splurging on swim out room. I'm not sure I would go back because of the food and how large the place is but we had fun despite.

A great vacation. No problems with air out of Philadelphia. Resort was Grand. Big, but easy to get around. Rooms were very comfortable and the swim out was great for the kids. Cheapcaribbean package was as expected with no delays or problems.

A Good Time Was Had By All

We are a family of 5 and we stayed in the Family Club section. The kids loved the stay and eating at the private Family Club only Pirate Restaurant. Food taste was average at the resorts. Some of the reservation restaurants had really good food like Italian, Seafood and Teppanyaki. Other reservation restaurants were not as good and some were below average. Room was nice sized and we really like it. Pool was great and beach was good. Overall I would recommend this place to any family of 5, it was a great value.
