Best Vacation
This is the first time I used Cheap Caribbean and was my first trip to the Dominican. Excellent pricing, package, and service. I will book another trip within the next 6 months. I also referred a coworker who booked a trip for next month. Thanks for the experience!
The Excellence was a great place to stay. I highly reccomend the French, Italian, Mexican & Japanese restataunts.
The Beach is amazing & our waiter Omar was the absolute BEST!!!!
Our room was nice but needed some updates. The staff is pleasant & willing to do whatever you want to make your stay enjoyable.
I loved this resort. The people were very nice and welcoming. The room was nice too. The food looked good but was not always tasty. The people pushing you to do excursions while you are trying to relax got old quick but I understand they are just trying to make a living. I think they should tone that down a bit though. The beach was beautiful and we plan to go back. If you are a beer drinker know that they have 2 kinds and that all ;)
Excellence was amazing. Well maintained, beautiful grounds. Service was fatastic, and the staff is all about making sure your time there is as fun or relaxing or as much of both as you want!
Only negatives were the long ride from the airport to the resort, but of course, the flip side is the resort is wonderfully secluded. We had issues with our room- hot water was hit or miss, HVAC was not as cooling as we wished, and the room seemed to be constantly damp- from the floors to the sheets. Staff was quick to come to our service but issues persisted.
It was really only minor annoyances in the grand scheme of things. The food is fantastic, drinks are generous and bountiful, entertainment was first class, and the different fun activities on site made the trip special.
I can highly recommend Miguel at Photo Souvenir if you want some amazing pictures of your time there. My wife and I did our Honeymoon pictures with him and we were blown away!

We do offer a "Pay Just Before You Play" Deposit Program. Per the terms of the deposit program, the airfare, taxes, travel insurance (optional) and the $25 non refundable deposit fee is due at the time a vacation is booked. The amount of the deposit does vary for each package. The remainder of the balance is due 21 days prior to departure and is automatically charged to the credit card on file.

The Excellence is located on the Caribbean side of the island so the water is light blue and swimmable. As far as wind is concerned, September is not a notably windy month but hurricane season does go through the end of November.

The water on our beach was EXTREMELY calm, with little to no waves at all. I found it very relaxing!

Yes, you can swim in the ocean. There are some decent waves but nothing that is going to hurt you. It was also pretty shallow for a long time walking out in the ocean. For the girls don't wear a strapless swimsuit if you want to keep it on. My girlfriend found that one out.

Unfortunately the excellence is the atlantic side not carribean which i didn't realize til i got there. so it won't have the gorgeous aqua/teal color and won't be as calm and clear as the carribean. It will be a little darker with some waves but definitely swimable!

Although beautiful, the ocean was a little rough in front of the resort. A short walk along the beach however, brought you to the calm, still waters made for swimming. We were there in early April. Don't know if that has any effect on it or not. (there were no storms during our stay)

We were there the end of August. The beach is hard to judge. One day it's rough and you can't swim and the next is calm enough to swim. On the rough days we went to the pool. One day we took a cab to nearby beach in Bavaro and it was nice and calm.

From other reviews and pictures, I thought the ocean would be treacherous with all the red flags and everything, but we went right after Hurricane Irene, and the ocean really wasn't that bad. There were waves, but few were high enough to do any kind of surfing. I think it was good enough for doing boogie boarding and stuff. A lot of people were swimming in the Ocean with no problems. If you go too deep, there's often a lifegaurd who will whistle you to come back to shallow water.

Plan on getting up around 9 because it is gorgeous all morning, would usually rain for an hour midafternoon, and the nice in the evenings.

I believe the "Excellence" suite is in the exclusive club section of the hotel which has a seperate pool and beach area. But i'm not 100% sure.

The size. Some of the suites had sitting areas and other didn't. Some had higher ceilings and made the room appear bigger. Since the resorts sits away from the beach-most of the rooms have the same views of the ocean but will be effected by the higher up you are (3 floors to most buildings).

The Jr. Suite Ocean View is typically a smaller room with one balcony or one Patio. The Excellence suite is typically larger with two balconies or two patios. We chose the excellence suite and it was quite excellent. Our room (Rm. 10005) was quite nice since our patios were not only ocean view but also pool side so we had a nice view of the ocean and we could also walk right into the pool from our room.

Every evening has a theme show. Some examples are men vs women where audience members participate, a circus night with dancers, trapeze acts, and Michael Jackson tribute. They also have live bands playing mostly local merengue music. We went to the club once and didn't stay long. They played regular club music

There's tons of evening entertainment. Every day they typically have a night-time show that often starts around 8:30 and runs for about two hours. The shows range from a Michael Jackson tribute, to gymnastic performances, to American-themed shows, to Men vs. Women competitions. All in all it is really fun. The hotel has an entire staff of entertainers devoted simply to getting guests involved and making sure they have fun. If shows are not your style, you can try to learn how to dance. Yohanna and Cassandra were wonderful in helping me and my wife learn how to do salsa and merengue. Everything was fun.

Evening entertainments are shows from local entertainer. Don't expect broadway show or shows like the cruise. The disco is good and on the beach with all kind of music. I don't think you would pay attention to the music, because you are to busy drinking.

It's sort of where the two meet. Lol we were there 2yrs ago and although the beach area at the resort wasn't the best for swimming, the water and beach were beautiful! A short walk up the beach brought you to much calmer waters with more of the Caribbean flair. Please don't let this dissuade you from staying at the Excellence. The resort was amazing, the service excellent, and I would stay there again without hesitation. We had a Jr swim up suite and literally had that pool to ourselves most days. No wrist bands and no reservations for dinner made our stay so much more enjoyable.

It's on the Atlantic Ocean side of the island. The waves can be a little rough at this particular resort because there's no reef to break them, but off to the southern side of the resort, there's a lovely stretch of virgin beach that is a nice alternative.

Snorkelling off the beach is free. They will provide you with mask, snorkel and fins. You can pay to go on an excursion to swim/snokel with dolphins, nurse sharks and sting rays

You can snorkel off the beach for free, but we didn't see too much since my wife can't swim (we used life jackets) and we didn't go too deep. We did see a lot of coral and one tiny fish. I also saw a bunch of sea urchins, but I didn't want to go to far since I didn't want to step on them.

on the south east end of the property is a shallow reef which is dive able at high tide. The currents are tricky, so ya gotta be aware. the coral is healthy, a few small reef fish and urchins and a lot of the coral is covered in the sand which is kicked up by the waves, so not too colorful. the rides to the excursions were too much for my wife, so we snorkeled here

You cannot snorkel. The waves are so powerful you can barely swim. I'm not sure if that was because we went in September, but it was really rough. We took a boat ride from the other side of the island.

you can they have snorkeling equipment available all day for free. but the ocean is so active where the resort is it would be tough to do anything... i would reccomend doing the coral reef explorer. about an hour bus ride

I did not upgrade, but would not do it. It just a separate club room and private beach that is the same as the resort beach. I don't know what's in the club room, but the drinks and foods are the same everywhere else. Hope it helps.

we did not upgrade till we got there. and we upgraded our room from a garden view junior suite to a swim up room with the excellence club all for about 550 for the week.... Def worth the upgrade. but wait till you get there is cheaper when they try to sell it to you at check in

We just went last week and it was $40 per night. If this is your first time to an Excellence resort though you may want to see what the standard is before you pay that. We didn't do the Club thing but the service we received and quality of the suite were far beyond what we had expected.

We visited 7 years ago and I remember there was a disco/club in the premises within walking distance of main entrance. Is it still there? I think they stayed open late. The last couple of resorts we've been to the nightlife dies down after the evening shows. We're looking for something with more nightlife.

The disco is still located in the same spot. It really depends on the crowd that's there when you are as to how roudy the nightlife is. It seems that most of the resort dies down after the show and when the two bars (Martini and Kafe Cafe) close for the evening (at 12 AM and 1 AM respectively.

It is located just past the spa and is is the last building in the row of shops. It was really fun and great dancing music.

The disco is still near the main entrance. It is a nice facility, but I wouldn't say it was packed with guests. We saw maybe 30 people there when we went in around 11:30pm. We were at a table outside for about an hour after it opened and many people came and went during that time.

I don't think it's worth upgrading. Every room is within a short walking distance to the lengthy pool and the beach. If you have a garden view room, that is more than sufficient, and the view is also lovely. If your heart is set on a pool side room, then I say go for it, but you'll be spending your money needlessly.

We upgraded when we got there. I say it was worth it. you have a hammock,, and the pool is literally 10 feet from your door. And the rooms are def. nicer. If we would go back i would pick the swim up room again!

I had a master suite as a result of a ramdon upgrade that the resort gave me. I was 20 feet from my 1st floor patio to the cascading pool. It was only blocked by the tiki bar. The room was stocked with beverages every day in the fridge and had an offering of various bottles of liquor. After having experienced a master suite for free, I would upgrade the next time.

I highly recommend the Excellence. It's very safe - guards at each end of the beach. There are no vendors allowed on the beach here though but at each end there are a couple shops and some services where you may be able to have braids done. I just have never gone to them myself.

You will definitely feel safe and welcome there. I just returned three days ago. It was my second vacation at Excellent, Punta Cana. Lots of familiar, friendly faces amongst the staff. They can't do enough for you. You will have chances to have your hair braided, but I cannot comment as to price or experience on that topic. Have fun & happy birthday!

You can smoke almost anywhere. There was one little section of bar area outside of the casino where my husband was told he could not smoke but once we went to the other side he was fine. All of the bars have ashtrays. I honestly don't remember if the restaurants had them or not because we are from NY so out of habit he doesn't smoke in restaurants. Hope this answers your question.
