Amazing Resort

Stayed at E Dorado Royale for our 10 yr anniversary. This was the 1st time at this resort and our 3rd to Riviera Maya. The resort was amazing. It was big but not overwhelming and we had no problem walking and exploring everything. It felt like every corner you turned their was a bar or a pool or a restaurant. Surprises all around. No problem finding a drink or something to eat. We thought the alcohol was too knotch and the food was all very fresh and delicious. I big plus for myself was the on site green house where they grow all their own organic fruits and vegetables. Most staff where over the top willing to do anything they could to make your stay even more wonderful. Others were just average but we did not come in contact with any rude, ignorant or anyone that wasn't there to provide their service. Cannot wait to return, this is our favorite place to date. Thanks cheap carribean for another fabulous vacation!!

Disappointing and not up to Karisma standards

A group of 11 of us stayed here and we were all very disappointed. We've stayed at other Karisma resorts in the past and had 5-star experiences. We expected the same this time and were sorely disappointed. Where to start? Making reservations at restaurants sometimes took hours and multiple phone calls as we got passed from concierge to concierge, and some of us were told we had to come to the office to listen to a presentation before they would make our dinner reservation. The poolside restaurant had horrendous service. One day it took 2 hours to get lunch. On multiple days they ran out of key ingredients, like chicken or pork, and another day they opened late because they didn't have any food at all. One day we spent a total of 7 hours in restaurants waiting for food, and our large group size wasn't the issue...none of the restaurants would sit our whole group together and instead divided us up into smaller groups of 4-6. The reason for the trip was to celebrate two birthdays. On the day we arrived we asked for banners to be put on their doors like we had seen on other doors. They said no problem but two days later they still weren't up. We asked again and they said they didn't put them up because their actual birth dates had passed. We pushed the issue - that 11 of us came to the resort to celebrate these birthdays - and again they said they'd do it. They finally did it on the very last night of our stay. They delivered a cheesecake with the banner, which could have been great except that they didn't get it until 10pm on their last night (actually, only one of the two people got a cheesecake), and then the maids threw the cake away when they cleaned the room the next morning, well before check-out time and when they needed to be out of the room. In the Italian restaurant, the servers were rude about getting a cash tip. We ordered many bottles of wine and when they brought us the check to sign, the server said "Here is the tip line. You need to leave a tip or you can pay me in cash." Our room was freezing, no matter how much we turned up the A/C the actual temperature in the room never changed. Whenever we turned it off to warm up the room smelled like mildew. Positives: Beautiful beach, lots of chaise lounges available, easy to get around. La Isla breakfast is very good, especially the mole, and Jo Jo's consistently delivered good food. If you do the show at La Fuente, get the wine pairing - they do a good job with it.

Loved this gourmet resort

I was so impressed with this resort. I have stayed at many all inclusive resorts, but I would say by far this one was the best. It was huge so bring walking shoes. We upgraded when we arrived to a room with a pool that goes into the floating river. We bought a raft and just layed in it an swam up to the swim up bar and ordered drinks with it so awesome. The beaches were so nice and not crowded. Great time of the year to go as this was only 40% occupied. The food was awesome, we really enjoyed the show at Las Isla? Where chefs come and give you a 5 course meal and explain how they made it. They have wine pairings of course that they offer you for more money. We never bought anything extra. Some of the meals are small so we ordered a couple of everything especially appetizers. All the restaurants were great, we went to the cocatal restaurant downstairs by the lobby for breakfast everyday as it was so great. Its a buffet only buffet I believe on the resort and you also can order from the menu, but they have everything you could possibly want in the buffet and omelet station. The health bar is awesome for fresh smoothies, you can use any of the restaurants and bars, but if eating at Generations please ask your concierge to book in advance they dont have the best times so we never went, but we heard the food is amazing and its a cool resort at the end but for families/kids. They have pools on every level of the high rise. We stayed in the 5400's at the end only downside the gulf carts took forever to come since we were at the end even when we called especially for early mornings when we had an excursion. We called 3 times took over 25 min to arrive. Other than that would definitely go back! Also El Dorado Maroma beach is down the road they threw this in for free with wave runners when we booked Xcaret/Xelha package. It wasnt sunny that day we went, but its supposed to be the most beautiful beach in Mexico. They have bungalows now on the water which just opened trying to make it like bora bora. Same with this El Dorado in the up coming year/years will have bungalows on the water. Will definitely come back for that

Staff amazing

Great , large resort, allot of wedding parties, honeymooners and anaversery celebrations, so with that being said you may not want to come here on a singles trip, the average age is 45 and over. Aside for that I found the food to be good. Not really seasoned but cooked well.i found the portions to be fine but they can be small for someone with a large appetite, the beach is ok in some areas not swimmable but again nice.the staff is amazing they make sure your every need is met.The message I had was great. We didn't have to wait to get in any restaurants. The swim out on the casitas side was large and warm. Jorge at the swim up bar is the best! And Dennies at our concierge was super accomadating.overall I did love my time here , I think we paid a lot more than we should have however I would go back.

Hotel Description

El Dorado Royale a Gourmet Inclusive Resort, by Karisma: All-Inclusive Heaven

Ignite a new flame or rekindle your romance along the sugary shores of Playa del Carmen at El Dorado Royale, a Gourmet Inclusive Resort by Karisma. Voted one of Conde Nast Traveler Readers' "Top 100 Hotels in the World," this adult-only retreat offers a gourmet all-inclusive plan that pampers your palate while you swim in AAA Four Diamond luxury.

Stroll hand in hand with your sweetheart along the resort's secluded sands or get the wedding party together for a swim in the resort's natural, saltwater pool. Looking to achieve the perfect bronze for your wedding? Surrender to the sizzling Mexican sun on a lounger or slide into one of the resort's 12 freshwater pools and make your way to a swim-up bar for a cocktail... and since there are 11 in-pool bars, chances are you won't have to float very far.

Eight gourmet restaurants and snack bars tempt your taste buds with selections like the lobster lasagna from five-star D'Italia, fondue with a view from La Fondue and the Pacific Rim cuisine of Kampai. For a unique show with your meal, head to Fuentes-Culinary Theatre, where flat-screens give guests an inside view of the work of Michelin-trained chefs. When twilight beckons, grab your honeymoon-heartthrob and nestle into a swinging chair with a drink for live music at Las Guacamayas, or sip premium martinis at the stylish Martini Bar. If you're looking for more, there's always a 20-minute cab ride to the heart of Cancun's nightlife.

Before tying the knot at the resort's stunning, beachfront wedding chapel, do away with any pre-vow jitters with a body scrub and a beachfront sky massage in a palapa overlooking the Caribbean. While you're there, take a lesson from the pros, who'll teach you how to give your spouse-to-be a massage when you get back to your Infinity Pool Swim-up Casita Suite. The suite has a private plunge pool that leads to the lazy river, a jetted tub and exclusive perks; we wouldn't blame you if you never left your room. But when you do, be assured paradise is waiting.
