Good value for the price

This was our second stay at El Cid. I will say our first experience was better than our second. This time it seemed like the resort catered more towards the cruise ship guests then the folks who are staying at the resort. They should have a section of the beach for their guests and another fior the cruisers. I couldn't find a chaise lounge on Friday because of all the cruisers at the resort. Also, breakfast is supposed to start at 7 and they were still not ready at 7:30, and when you have plans and need to leave and can't get breakfast it is annoying. We didn't seem to have these issues when we stayed before. We are planning on returning in November and not sure we will be booking again at El Cid.

Great Value, Great Fun

Cozumel is not known for it's beaches, so if you are looking for sand and beaches you might want to keep looking. If you are looking for a clean, friendly resort with delicious food and a beautiful ocean front setting then ElCid is perfect for you. The waterfront is calm (little to no waves) so very good for snorkeling. Plenty of fish and ocean life. The water is crystal clear and the perfect temperature. There is a man made beach that is manicured each evening. Very clean and nice. Huts if you need a break from the sun. You take a few steps down into the water. There is a nice sized fresh water pool that feels great when cooling off. A hot tub with bar access as well. There is also a salt water waterfall area that is fun to sit in as well. Food: the buffet is nice, not great....BUT...if you order from the menu everything is VERY good! The rooms are nice...A/C is the best part!! Anyone can find something wrong with any resort. ElCId really wants their guests to have a great time. Very accommodating, very friendly and helpful. Good location too. Our only negative (and it is not a deal breaker) is that the cruise ships park a few blocks down, so sometimes the view of the ocean is partially obstructed. We will come back for sure!

Only if you are coming to dive and nothing else

This resort is the furthest from downtown and everyone knows it's the lowest on the rung. The best thing I can say about it is that it was extremely clean. The rooms were average. We could not understand why the TVs only provided 3 english speaking channels when the entire customer base for the resort is american and canadians - we would have liked the option to change the language to our own on our TV. Our biggest issue was the food; it was buffet style which we do not like (and would not have chosen based on that alone) - although you could order from the "regular" menu, it was frowned upon and we were always told to get food from the buffet. Food options changed very little and the food was just average if not plain boring. Service was good on the tiny beach next to the resort but ONLY if cruise ships were not in port. Since at least 4 are in port continually, as soon as the paying cruise ship customers came onto the beach, service to the resort customers went way down. We could not buy any excursions on site either because we had to participate in a time share presentation which we did not want to do and we were hassled continually to do this presentation - no, no, and more no! Entertainment was cheesy at best. We walked into town every day to find better food and things to do. If you are retired, just want to hang out at the tiny beach, used to bland food and don't mind bad service and being continually hassled to buy a time share, this is the place for you. We would not come to cosumel again (we don't dive) and based on the food at this resort, we'll take a cruise the next time - at least we know we can get decent things to eat on the ship.

Thanksagaincheapcaribbean!

El Cid was a nice place for a little R&R for a week in December.Once again Cheap Caribbean came in with a great price for our All Inclusive package. All though I did not like signing for everything we got a great clean room all drinks and some pretty decent food for our price with no extra add ons. Our room was in the three story side on the ground floor so we walked right out our patio on to the beach. hotel service staff ,the restaurant ,bar service and housekeeping went out of their way to make our stay pleasant .Thank you La Ceiba!

Hotel Description

El Cid La Ceiba Beach: Dive into Paradise

Your unforgettable dive vacation begins at the all-inclusive El Cid La Ceiba Beach Hotel, located on Cozumel's pristine southern shore. With its own on-site dive center, the resort is only minutes from some of the best diving in the world. Before heading to the beach, you'd better grab your sunglasses. The sparkling white sand is gorgeous, but the light can be a little intense. If you're looking to make a splash, the free-form pool, with a special kiddie area and extended deck that juts up to the sea is a refreshing alternative to the warm Caribbean sun. From a comfy lounge, you can gaze across the turquoise waters and veg out to the sights and sounds of the cruise ships docking nearby.

El Cid La Ceiba Beach Hotel is not only a gateway to underwater adventures but to the wonders of the tropical forest at the resort's eco-park. Your heart will pump a little faster as you soar across 1,400 ft of jungle canopy on zip lines at Fly High Adventures. The towers are the highest in the park, offering breathtaking views of the jungle and even the sea. When earthbound once again, test your hiking skills on six rugged trails woven through lush and exotic plant life.

Once you have worked up an appetite, the hotel's premier restaurant, La Chopa, ranks among the finest in Cozumel. Dig into succulent filet mignon, cooked to perfection, at this amazing beachfront restaurant. Trying to eat healthy? Don't worry, everything here is fresh, from the fruits and vegetables to the pastries and seafood. If love is in the air, request the Romance Special. The splashing and gurgling of two waterfalls will serenade you as the sun dips below the horizon.

An intimate hotel of just 60 recently renovated rooms, El Cid La Ceiba Beach is the ideal base for exploring Cozumel. Start with San Miguel, the little family-oriented town only minutes away. You'll delight in the downtown plaza, where locals gather Sunday nights for music and dance and conversation that's a remarkable blend of Mexican and Mayan cultures. Other nearby attractions include a chance to swim with dolphins and stingrays, and Country Club Cozumel, with an 18-hole golf course designed by the legendary Jack Nicklaus.
