Peacocks everywhere equals no sleep!

My husband along with our two boys ages 10 and 13 went to Dreams Punta Cana for spring break April 2-9,2017. We have never had a bad vacation until now. There were some we liked better then others but none like this. The resort has peacocks roaming all over. When we first got there we thought they were pretty but then we tried to sleep and were awakened every morning by 6:00am ONE MORNING WAS 5:30am. Some nights they squawked all night long and we got no sleep. THINK OF A ROOSTER AND MULTIPLY IT. We were exhausted all week long and were miserable. They would sit on our balcony (see photo). I can't believe more people are not complaining about this. We stayed in building four facing the pool. LOOK ON THE INTERNET HOW LOUD PEACOCKS ARE AND DECIDE IF YOU WANT TO TAKE THAT RISK OF NOT SLEEPING WHILE ON VACATION. IT WAS CONSTANT! We complained but the front desk couldn't guarantee the noise would be better in another building since they roam all around. We will not stay here again because of this.

Peacocks everywhere equals no sleep! Peacocks on the balcony

Great Destination Wedding Location

We got married at this resort in April and had 25 of our friends and family down to join us for our destination wedding. This resort had something for everyone. We loved it and I would highly recommend it. The beautiful grounds and spectacular service are the best part! There are beautiful trees and plants and flowers everywhere, gardens, ponds and well cared for pool and well maintained beach area. Our room was beautiful, as it was the honeymoon suite, but other people had very small rooms with outdated TV's and furniture. But who really cares about that, as long as the bed and pillows are good (which they were). Some had crazy good AC units and some had terrible AC units. Only one of our group requested a different room. The Wedding: We had a wonderful wedding coordinator, Maria, who made our perfect day a reality. If you are thinking about a destination wedding, this is a perfect place for it. We booked our date a year in advance and Maria worked with us (via email) to plan exactly what we wanted, from a rehearsal brunch to a welcome bonfire party to a beautiful wedding and dinner reception for 25. But have no fear, future brides, once we arrived, Maria met with us and finalized everything. She is concise, friendly, accommodating and professional. She made wonderful recommendations and made my special requests happen. All the pricing was upfront and we were not surprised by any charges we didn't expect. I think all our friends and family will be talking about this trip for a really long time. Excursions: Our group mostly stayed on resort for all meals and activities with the exception of one big group excursion and three small group excursions. Several of these were booked thru the resort upon arrival and went great (Dune buggies and ScapePark excursions were booked through AMSTAR which has a table at the resort and there were great fun). Snorkeling and Golf were booked separately and ahead of time. Other comments: I was expecting lots of bugs (the scare of ZIKA) and we came with more bug-spray than sunscreen. I am not exaggerating when I say, we say lots of wildlife, birds, fish and absolutely NO bugs. I didn't even use the bug-spray I brought. Granted, we traveled here in April, but seriously, the resort does a great job managing this. Thank you! The Spa is beautiful. It seems pricey, but the hydro circuit they have (prior to spa treatments) makes it worth it. It was very cool for a "special" occasion. The food is great. Love not having to wear an "all inclusive" bracelet/wrist band. Everywhere we tried had great food. The service is slow at peak dinner times. The only bad dining experience we had was on a Saturday night, when we tried to eat at Portofino's and there were 2 weddings going on outside. That wasn't so bad, except they had all the doors/windows open, so the loud music killed the dining experience. But the food was great at all the restaurants from breakfast to lunch. Our mini bar was good and if we tipped the staff, they made sure we were stocked with beer and rum (and plenty of bottled water) everyday. Sorry for the long review. We were there for 9 days for our wedding and never ran out of options for dining or things to do. The staff is super friendly and helpful. I don't have enough good things to say about the wedding coordinator, Maria, and her staff that made our trip amazing. Luigi, the "preferred club" concierge also helped us with several unusual requests, like personally delivering our 'welcome baskets," to our guests rooms....and getting us table reservations. He also helped us arrange a "birthday" surprise for my brother's room. He was wonderful and cool. We will definitely return to this resort and would recommend it to anyone for a destination wedding. We picked it because it is family friendly but also adult/couple friendly. There really do have something for everyone.

The weather was wonderful. The beaches were great. The pool was nice. You could go to the pool or beach without worrying about getting chairs. The number of restaurants was good, but the service varies. One restaurant may be responsive and have great service while the next one has 3 hour service for dinner. The bars were not fully staffed. So the swim pool always had a wait even though there were less than 10 people there. They needed to add 2 more people to the bar. That never happened. The customer service at the restaurants were not 100% favorable. They denied entry to a restaurant to my husband since we didn't realize the dress code at night was different than the morning. While I was in the restaurant, the hostess would not let him come into the restaurant to tell me that he needed a room key to get a t-shirt. Other guests were wearing daisy dukes, spaghetti straps and midriffs, but he couldn't wear the tank top. They made him sit outside in the lobby and wait until everyone was finished eating. The main complaint is that the 8 of the 21 were sick while on vacation or when they returned home. Two of the people are still sick (going on 10 days). The sickness I the main reason I would not return to Dominican.

Average.

Just returned from Dreams for a wedding, wherein we had about 30 people in our group. The resort was beautiful. I appreciate how small it was because everything was within a reasonable walk. The bar staff in and near the pool and beach were awful. They were constantly miserable, took forever to make drinks, and their drinks were weak. The staff at the bar in the lobby were extremely friendly, quick, and made drinks strong. The beach ALWAYS had chairs available, whereas other resorts you frequently need to reserve a beach chair. The rooms were pretty outdated and basically none of the outlets worked (everyone in our group had this issue). Not sure if this is related to Dreams itself, Punta Cana, or our own stupidity....but about 10 people in our group got Giardiasis. Not fun! Besides that, we enjoyed our stay.

What's to Love

The refreshing champagne and chilly towels that welcome you into beach bliss.

The massive, aahh-mazing pool that stretches from the lobby to the beach.

The 1,643-square foot on-site casino. Lady luck is waiting.

The Deluxe Swim-Out room. You'll feel like royalty, or a rock star. (Or a royal rock star.)

The flamingos, peacocks, parrots, turtles and more - it's like a tropical zoo.

Explorer's club (kids 3-12) with everything from sand castle contests to Plant a Tree & Corn Harvest Project.

Red Cross certified staff supervise the aforementioned club. A relief, right?

Parents get a pager from the Explorer's club, should they be needed for anything.

Chilling in the spa's Zen garden after the Tropical Oasis Body Wrap.

The FREE windsurfing and sailing lessons. (Gotta love free.)

Seaside dining with only the stars and candles to light your night. (There's a fee, but go for it).

What We'd Change

You'll want to keep an eye on the schedule for the restaurants, but there are so many options your taste buds will rejoice in their around-the-world tour.

Why You Should Go

It's 60-minute drive from the airport, but you can relax - you're already in earth-heaven.

Upgrade to the Preferred Club, get a private lounge & beach, and much more.

Browse the Dominican market with fine handicrafts, hand-made jewelry and more.

For some "you time," there's yoga/stretching and aerobics.

Our world-class golf courses are near. The concierge can hook you up.

Saddle up and go horseback riding. It costs, but it's magical.

Get starry-eyed with the Stargazing Rock 'n Roll party and movies under the stars on the beach.

Tennis (and clinics) are here - nothing like hitting the court under the palms.

Head to the baseball cage for some family throwing and bonding time.

Play Mexican Bingo and after you win, hit the water cycles.

The ocean trampoline is a fav among the kiddos.
