First Timers to the DR!

We did the Deal of Fortune Family Friendly 4.5 Sun & ended up at Dreams Palm Beach. Stayed from 4/28-5/4 and overall had an amazing trip! To start, we were not welcomed with Chilly towels and sparkling champagne as advertised but that was no big deal. We had also requested a room with a King Bed but since they were completely full the day we arrived, we got a room with 2 double beds in building 9, which is the furthest from the beach. Our patio overlooked a small courtyard and the back of the buffet so all we saw were people bringing dumpsters out constantly. The next day I went to the front desk and asked if a room with a King bed had opened up, which one had so we were moved to building 7, with a much better courtyard view. The one downside to the room is the bathroom. Zero privacy. There is a glass "door" leading into the shower/toilet area. It does not close, so someone could just swing it either way and come in. There is also about a foot at the top that is all open. The other problem is the shower. There is no door on the shower so as much as a tried not to get water onto the floor, it ended up soaked after every shower. Room service comes twice a day, once usually in the morning, then again at night for "turn-down" service. I highly recommend always using the sign on your door. Red (leave us alone lol) or Green (ready to clean).. They did a very good job. We didn't make it to all of the restaurants but here are a few that we did make it to: World Cafe (Buffet): Pretty much the only place we could get breakfast as we did not upgrade to preferred but the buffet is huge so you can have something different every day. Lunch and Dinner is great as well, so many options. Barefoot Grill (on the beach): Amazing! We had burgers and hot dogs from the grill on days we were just hanging out on the beach and they were fantastic! Portofino (Italian): Great decor, servers were friendly, food was okay. The appetizers and desserts are made for one person so don't order just one appetizer if you plan on sharing with others at your table. Seaside Grill: Had dinner here on our first night and I just got chicken tenders, which were okay. My boyfriend had the skirt steak and said it was excellent. He wanted to keep going back but I wanted to try more than one restaurant. lol El Patio (Mexican): The chips that they serve with salsa and guacamole are stale. (others have mentioned this as well) but other than that the food was fantastic. Especially the chicken/steak fajitas! Highly recommend. The lobby bar was nice, we never had a problem getting a drink or a seat. The pool bar would sometimes get busy but we never had to wait more than a couple minutes for a drink. The casino is nice for this size resort, small but was not packed when we went. Desires (disco) was fun. Good music and dancing. The Seaside Grill bar was nice for a few drinks after dinner. I recommend taking a tumbler of some sort to have filled while by the beach or pool. I took a 24oz Bubba Mug, which is about the size of 3 of the little plastic cups they give you and stays cold. They fill them up no problem! The staff is great and really what make this resort. You are always greeted with "Hola!" and a smile by all of the staff. I got so used to saying it, it was hard to break that habit after leaving! Everyone there seems to love their job. We did not run into one negative staff member. The nightly entertainment was great, I was not expecting that. The beach is nice, the staff always cleaning up the seaweed. Never had an issue finding a chair on the beach or pool. The beach swimming area is not very big at the but we walked the beach past our resort as it is public and it was lovely, probably the best pictures we got during the entire trip. I feel not many people know they can leave the resorts beach area because we only passed a few people on our long walk. A few people I wanted to mention: Humberto at Seabar grill, very friendly, makes amazing drinks and also gave us our first taste of Mama Juana! Francisco served us drinks on the beach daily. We skipped the beach one day and just laid by the pool and when we returned to the beach the following day he said "where were you yesterday?" Always remembered us, gave us great service and was very personable! Ergie in entertainment was great! He always had us doing different things and we seemed to run into him everywhere. Would definitely return to Dreams Palm Beach and will be using Cheap Caribbean again in the future! Hopefully sooner than later! Stayed May 2017, traveled as a couple

Deal of fortune paid off

When we booked the deal of fortune we were unsure if it was a good idea. 1 week before we left we were told we were staying at Dreams Palm Beach and were quite happy. Then we arrived at the resort and were very happy we went with the deal of fortune. Before we left we had read some reviews about crowding at the pools and long wait times for the restaurants. We did not experience any of this. Not sure if it was just quiet when we went but we were able to get loungers by the baby pool, most days with an umbrella. We were also able to walk into all the restaurants no problem as soon as they opened. The only one that we saw people waiting at was the hibachi, we opted to eat at a regular table. We liked that all the restaurants had the same kids menu with a good variety of food. The food wasn't the greatest, but we didn't go on vacation for good food. The portions were on the smaller side, but that meant you could eat a full 3 course meal. The breakfast and lunch buffet had a good selection of food. The seaside grille was our favorite because it was right on the beach. My daughter loved the baby pool, it was just the right depth that she could walk by herself and get comfortable in the water. The poolside service did leave a lot to be desired, I didn't even realize that there was service until the last day (I had seen others getting drinks delivered but never saw anyone ordering drinks). On the last day I saw someone taking orders so I ordered a drink, about half an hour later I still hadn't received my drink and had to get ready to go to the airport. The rest of the time I went to the poolside bar. The only thing I would change is to have drink menus at all the bars, there were some in the lobby but nothing at the pool bars. The beach was also excellent, some seaweed but that's to be expected. Again no problem getting loungers with umbrellas. We always felt very safe on the resort, they had security posted at either end of the beach. The size of the resort was perfect, nothing was too far away but it wasn't too crowded either. We really enjoyed our stay and had a nice relaxing time.

OK experience

My overall experience was average. The property was beautiful. wonderful gardens, very tropical, what you would picture for a Caribbean location. Very clean. Beach was fine but not the best. Pools were good but a little crowded. Difficult to get towels. Food was sub par. Couldn't imagine spending more than 5 days and having to rely on the food options. However, the staff was very nice and provided great service. Also had a very bad experience booking an excursion through AMSTAR. I booked through the AMSTAR rep down by the pool the day before the excursion. The next day showed up for our pick up time and no bus. Discussed the situation with the AMSTAR rep at the front lobby and they were less than helpful. He said that he warned us to book through him and that I would have to go and talk to the person we booked it with down by the pool. Clearly they have no incentive to work together as a single company. I spoke to the person who I booked the trip with who ended up being very helpful and got us a taxi. It was really annoying that they all didn't work in my best interest. Also, getting change for a $20 was difficult. The upgrade to the preferred level was a bit of a waste of money. No real benefit. They attract you to spend the extra money by giving you coupons but you have to agree to a timeshare presentation. They say it's not a sell job but believe me it was. Wasted half a day. My fault for being too nice. I must say that Cheap Caribbean did a great job of organizing the trip. Transfers to and from airport was perfect. They should really change their name as Cheap doesn't do it justice.
