Don't think we are complainers.Just expected more for the money. Previously we went few times to Cancun and Playa del Carmen and we paid half of the price. Let start with the arrival, pickup service from the airport- great ( Amstar), everything organized to the perfection.First impression at the Resort in the lobby it was very good. Few minutes later when we look it the room - disaster, everything very outdated ,moldy stains on the curtains , stained pillows and bed spreads . We felt like we are in the Super 8 Motel. After complaint they change the room for some remodeled room ,it was better ,but still dusty lamps, rust stains on the lighting. First night we didn't sleep well ,because some construction next door . Nothing about it was mentioned on their website -we would never book it. And now the food- OMG , so many choices ,but nothing taste good, all the salads look like from a day before, breakfast buffet was moved to the theater because of the construction.Everything was cold ,the only good thing was omelet and eggs because it was made in the front of you. We had hoped for better lunch or dinner ... For lunch you can have burgers at the beach side or pool side grill- chicken and stakes ,chicken it was ok ,don't even try the stakes unless you have very healthy teeth, very hard to chew.. My worst experience was the Italian and French Restaurants. Both join the same kitchen and food just look like a food and nothing to do with French or Italian food. Not tasty and any meat you order was hard ,overcooked. Deserts all the same from the breakfast buffet just with new names. Pool very dirty with black mold . And finally drinks in the bars -no matter what you order everything tastes the same ,just different color ... The housekeepers were good - made the room look pretty with flowers and different arrangements on the bed and drapes... We are very surprised and disappointed with this Resort. No more mistakes ,next time only Cancun.

Great service and dining options

First of all, I belIeve this is a great place for family-oriented stays, so it is definitely less exciting for the young adult generation! Service was excellent. Maids always asked if we needed service, and room service was excellent. Very good dining options and no rsvp requirement made it great. The Asian/Japanese was the best, and surprisingly the Mexican was the worst from the others. The outside excursions helped the day go well, and I really recommend Outback Adventure that puts humble & humility back into our mindset, which I appreciated because it took me back to my own poor days in 1960s! I really appreciated the authentic/hearty lunch meal from Outback Adventureso because I wanted my family to get taste of Dom Rep way of life and food. My experience at Dreams Palm Beach will be memorable with my wife and two adult kids!

not a great vacation

arrived and spent 30+ minutes listening to the up sell before they would even give the keys to my room. I'm all for a good sales story, but not after a 4 hour flight and being in 90+ degrees dragging luggage around plus a toddler in a stroller.... just sayin. the up sell will not end unless you agree to meet with them for breakfast to hear more up selling, which she claimed is not a timeshare, etc. just give me the keys and let me start my vacation. finally got to our room which was warm - as in the a/c was not working. gave it a bit to see if maybe it just needed time....nope, it was just awful.....asked for another room and after 3 hours they "found" one right across the hall. felt cooler in there compared to our hot room so we took it. finally now getting my toddler bathed (specifically, showered, there was not a tub) and ready for bed b/c its like 10pm at this point... go to flush the toilet and it does not work. like at all. the handle just flaps in the wind. ok lets try this again. forgot to mention, we are in a "preferred" room with separate concierge services. so I go over and by this time I'm fired up and explain my situation and I'm given apology or lets fix it story, just attitude. she types away, makes calls and finally finds someone to come fix it...within 30 minutes she says...I'm watching the clock and keeping my son awake in the event we have to move rooms again b/c of this issue.......meanwhile I'm sweating, tired and super angry. 32 minutes later I march over to the girl with the attitude and kinda yell at she's pleasant and trying to be my friend and promises they'll be there in 5 minutes. so I go back and someone comes and fixes the toilet so now we can all go to bed.....which is great until you realize that you are still sweating and hot and uncomfortable. we toss and turn thru the night and are awaken at 8am by the up sell girl wanting to meet. i told her to go away b/c of the mess we went through i was not in any mood to deal with any more selling. so we head over to breakfast, which is in an open-air buffet so you just continue dripping sweat while you eat your pancakes. great (sarcastic). the pancakes aren't even good. there isnt much at the breakfast buffet that is good. we are not picky food people but this just wasnt cutting it for me. made to order omelets are the saving grace... everything else is iffy and some stuff is downright gross. the free buffet at a residence inn is better for breakfast and i've been on cruises where i gained 10 pounds b/c the food is so good...but this, sadly, was hugely disappointing. my only goal now is to jump in a pool to stop sweating so we do that and then we see the up sell lady and she asks my hubby why he looks so angry? well maybe because our vacation sticks so far, the room is hot, the food is terrible, the drinks are weak, etc. and she says she'll get us ANOTHER room that is cooler and we can see it first before we move.... ok fine.... a few hours later she waves me out of the pool to go see the room and as the bell hop is taking me over there he tells me the building I am in (the first two rooms) always has a/c problems. room #3 is MUCH cooler, the toilet works so I agree to move again. round everything up and move again. turns out, room #3 is better but on the 2nd floor and there are no elevators...and as I mentioned before, we have a toddler in a stroller...that's ok, i'll take the stairs over not sweating all night long! we put the past day and a half behind us and have a great day in the pool -- the pools are all GREAT! big, clean, not crowded, etc. but if you want a "good" seat in a desirable area of the pool, you better wake up before 9am and go stake your claim. usually I'm against that but after our rough start, I don't care, I'm being the lady who does stuff like that. the lunch bbq's they setup are really good - variety of food beyond burgers and hotdogs so that's nice. all the while I'm grabbing whatever drinks I can get my hands on... but yet I'm not even feeling the slightest bit tipsy. and I'm not a drinker... two beers or glasses of wine and I'm starting to get a buzz.... on this vacation I had zero buzz. maybe because there are so many things that are a downer? who knows... hibachi dinner was fun and mostly delicious. Italian dinner was pretty good. seaside grill was the best dinner - steak was excellent. but the sides and everything else was blah. lets put it this way, the hours we spent in the pool were great and if not for that, this would be a horrible vacation... but we tried to make the best of it and given all the mess we went through it ended up being ok, maybe even considered a good vacation. the resort itself is beautiful and clean. i wish they would put effort into keep the rooms up to par. I would not go back here. I would not recommend this to any friends. you live and you learn... as I do when I read reviews, you take it with a grain of salt, there is good and bad no matter where you go... we just hit a lot of the bad on this trip.

This was our first trip to the Dominican Republic. My sister and I were so impressed by the friendly positive atmosphere. The people here are absolutely beautiful and charming!!! From the moment we arrived til the day we departed we were always greeted with a smile, a warm hello and a helpful attitude. The resort was very clean and relaxing. We were so disappointed we had only booked a 3 night trip. Looking forward to a longer stay at this resort in the near future.

What's to Love

Chilly towels and sparkling champagne welcome you, remove the funk, and ready you for pampering.

The endless turquoise and fringy palms that grace the beach. Swoon.

Colonial-style suites with tropical views (some with a Jacuzzi), or ocean views that take your breath away.

Explorer's club (kids 3-12) that offers everything from sand castle competitions to arts & crafts.

Red Cross certified staff supervise the aforementioned club. A relief, right?

Parents get a pager from the Explorer's club, should they be needed for anything.

Spa treatments like the Chocolate Body Wrap and Aromatic Moor Mud Hydrotherapy.

Cuddly soft bathrobes and slippers in every room. Your bod will thank you.

VIP Butler service - an actual butler, late check-out, packing service and more. Indulge, much?

Couples' private candlelit dinner by the ocean, for a fee, but remember, life is short.

What We'd Change

With just three pools, a resort of this quality is bound to get a little crowded at times. What better excuse to grab your own Jacuzzi suite long before you arrive?
