Very nice, with a few cons

FIRST THE GOOD: The hotel and grounds are stunning! The pool area is well kept and overlooks the ocean and the ships going into the canal - the view is really breathtaking. The pool bars have fast service, with nice, hard-working bartenders and there are many things to do; water aerobics, dance lessons, corn hole games, bingo at the pool bar (with spa prizes), a putting green, music, etc,. The French restaurant - The Bordeaux, was outstanding, very good food and great service. The Oceania Seafood Restaurant was delicious (have the red snapper, the shrimp and steak skewers or the blackened fish) and the service was good. The green and red vegetable smoothies, served during breakfast in the Portifino's restaurant were tasty and healthy. The rooms are all ocean view, a good size and nicely decorated and clean. NOW THE BAD: The language barrier is a problem. The employees don't speak English at all and trying to ask ANYTHING is a problem. We and other guests had a few misunderstandings because neither party knew what the other was saying. The restaurant Portifino's, was awful. The portions were tiny and mostly pasta or rice and the salad bar was nothing to brag about. The breakfast was not what I am used to at an all-inclusive - very small and half the time most items were empty. The only good thing was the guy making the omelettes, but if you are not a fan of omelettes you were out of luck for breakfast. The other thing that was a real bummer, was that check out is noon, but we had an evening flight and were leaving at 7pm. At check-out they told us that there would be a charge of $20.00 per hour if we were going to stay on the premises! It cost us an additional $140.00 to sit poolside while we waited for our airport transport. We were supposed to get a room upgrade (according to our Cheap Caribbean paperwork) but when we asked for it, they said they would look into it and get back to us. They never let us know the status of the upgrade and when I went a 2nd time to inquire, they told me they were "full." Later though I found out that they were only 43% full, so there was no reason for them not to give us the upgrade we were offered at booking. Also, the "$200.00 in resort coupons" was a TOTAL waste and turned out to be a way to get your information to try to sell you a time share. Don't fall for it. I think Cheap Caribbean should not allow the resort to call them "coupons." $20.00 off a $180.00 massage (that I can get anywhere else for $65.00, is no bargain. Despite the few issues above, we had a great vacation, with a few negatives, but overall about a 3.5 to 4 star resort stay.
