Worth every dime
My girlfriend and I went here and had a great time in 2009. Rooms were fine, drinks plentiful, pool area was really nice and we always found a seat. The swim up bar was nice too. The buffet always had good stuff but the best thing was the fried sea bass...I can not say enough how delicious it was. I have dreams about it. It was delicious!
Okay, enough of that, the staff were all nice and the place was nice. We did a tour of a swamp and someones back yard to see the spider moneys..that was soo cute, they came right up and took the bananas from our hand. The swamp was something, croc's or gators(not sure which) came right up and the guide actually stood in the water with a half chicken to feed it...yah, it was something. I got some great closeup pics.
Like I said , we had a great time! I would like to go back.

Wouldn't stay here again
The food is not very good, nothing is served hot even the coffee in the morning. The snack bar is terrible especially at night they don't want to cook anything and the only thing they will serve is warmed hamburgers. The soup is not bad.
On the weekend this place is packed with locals from the city who are extremely noisy. The bar staff and front desk staff are nice but i was not impressed with the staff in the buffet restaurant. The Latino American restaurant is very good and so is the food its a shame you can't eat there every night.
The hotel grounds are very nice but they need new sun loungers as they are stretched out and not very comfortable.
The hotel is in a pretty decent location to do day trips and if you go outside the hotel across the street to Juan and Harold they are very helpful with day trips and transportation, they also offer free internet service and phone calls.
Overall i was disappointed with this hotel and am very surprised that the Hilton name is attached to it.
Loved Costa Rica, the country is beautiful and definitely worth a visit just don't stay here.
Excellent resort -centrally located for activities I was interested in. Got to go zip-lineing, snorkle diving, and went to a couple wildlife sancuarys and saw a wide variety of colorful birds and monkies. Hotel got me in touch with an english speaking guide that really enhanced our vacation. A great value. Would recommend this to anyone.
This resort is a great value with exceptional accommodations, service, and food. The rooms are comfortable and clean, we had a wonderful view of the garden, pools, and ocean. Food is available most of the day and evening and it is fresh and plentiful. We enjoyed every meal, especially breakfast with the endless fresh tropical fruit, omelets to order, and a huge assortments of sides. The beaches are spectacular. We found plenty to do at the resort and took a tour outside the resort as well. The country is beautiful and a must see, waterfalls, volcanoes, rivers, tropical birds, and the zip lines; all breathtaking. Everyone was very friendly and accommodating. Would highly recommend.

Your best bet for destinations with a wide variety of all inclusive resorts will be Mexico, the Dominican Republic or Jamaica. You may want to look at the Barcelo chain, the Dreams resorts or the Majestic resorts. One of our reservation sales agents may be able to better assist you in narrowing down your choices. Please feel free to call us at 1-800-915-2322.

There is plenty to do for everyone. Shows nightly at 9 p.m. for adults, pools, tennis, ping pong, horseback riding, and of course lots of excursions :)

This resort has activities all day such as water aerobics, table tennis, volleyball by the beach, etc. Lots to keep high school graduates busy. They have nightly shows and a disco. The adults can enjoy the food, beaches, walks, just the scenery. This is a nice place with lots to do and excellent food.
southerngal
Zip-line near Jaco. Total length more than 2 miles (14 total platforms). Saw from 12 years old up to 64.

Real nice place, disco for the nightlife but actually pretty quite, may just not have been busy when we were there. Pool and ocean are awesome, buffet is great, not a lot of activities but they do have some.

What is the beach like at the Doubletree Resort?5 answers

Diane
Hi Diane,
The beach at the Doubletree Resort is typical for that area of the Pacific coastline. The sand is darker and the surf is rough. If you are looking for white sand and calm water you may need to look at our properties in the Caribbean. Feel free to call one of our destination specialists if you require any additional assistance.
ccsusan1
the beach is pretty to look at, but didn't observe anyone swimming due to the waves and lack of clean water. the locals were surfing a little bit, but that was it. The sand is volcanic (dark) and the water is not a clear pretty blue, but is definitely pretty in it's own way.
milwaukeeian
It was not a white sandy beach, it is actually black volcanic sand. It is nice to walk on or play soccer or volleyball, but not to just hang out with your family like you would on the east coast of the USA. People say it is dirty, but It is mostly just things from the ocean or land (rocks, palm tree leaves, bark, etc.)
Sammyvball
October and November had a great deal of rain that had caused a lot of soil and small branches to wash into the ocean so the beach was not in real good shape when we were there (late November). Would imagine it would be much nicer in December and January.
DavidD
HI
The beach sand is black so it is very hot, the beach is directly in front or back(which ever way you want to think of it) of the resort, nice pier to walk out onto. It was definitely clean and you could have the workers drag a chair out there for you no problem.
