Set on six acres of lush, tropical gardens bordered by 900 feet of lustrous white sands, Curacao Marriott Beach Resort & Emerald Casino beckons to weary travelers. And yet, this oasis of tranquility off Piscadera Bay is surprisingly close to everything! The airport is just 15 minutes to the north, and downtown Willemstad, with its charming Dutch culture, is even closer.

Curacao trip Oct. 2011
Curacao is a very nice Island. Water is crystal clear and warm. People are very friendly. Driving around the Island can be frustrating as the map shows roads that aren't on the Island and their directions. But I would most definitely go back. Did have a slight issue with the car rental agency. But won't go into that. I will put it on Tripadvisor.
After counting down the days to my vacation, I was not disappointed in Curacao. The Marriott Emerald Casino is a beautiful resort. It looks just like the pictures featured on the website. The resort is clean and the staff is over the top. The bellmen, front desk and managers couldn't be more helpful and informative. The food is good but a little pricey.. They offer a free shuttle in town daily . The best part for me was a daily yoga class on the beach !! Over the top
The first night we were put in a room with 2 queen beds...NOT what we wanted. We were told we would be transferred to a king room by 4 the next afternoon. We checked at 4, ready to move - no room yet but was imminent. It was suggested we go to dinner and the staff would move our luggage to the new room while we were gone. We went to town and came back at 8. No room. They said to return to our old room and they would let us know. We had already heard that twice, so we went to our room and hauled our luggage to the lobby (sans the elevator which was out of commission) and said we would wait in the lobby until our room was ready. Finally about 10PM a room was found. It was on the opposite side of the resort and apparently had been redone. Was much nicer and fresher than the first room.
Overall, this is a beautiful place. They are trying to refurbish various parts. The snorkeling was fun and the beach very nice. Were it not for the lapse of service regarding the room, we would have rated it higher. When you are only there for 4 nights and can't unpack the first night and not even until very late the second night, it is very unfortunate.
Thanks to CC we found another great deal to the Caribbean. We are a family of 4- 2 adult and 2 children under the age of 13. Airfare from Miami, 5 nights accomodation at the Marriott (the "deal" was for 4 nights and we added a 5th), Breakfast for 2 adults (kids eat free) plus a $200 food and beverage credit at the resort. $1881 WOW! Breakfast alone for 5 days was nearly a $300 value and the breakfast was good, complete with omelette station, buffet and all of the normal accoutraments. All charges are posted to your account and deducted at checkout. We had 2 other meals at the resort and the $200 credit was applied at checkout as well (I did have to ask for it after reciewing my bill). Nonetheless, everything described in my CC package was legit as usual. Nearly $500 worth of F&B on top of the already great deal> I have not been disappointed yet with numerous trips from CC. I am waiting for the "catch" but there isn't any. I don't know how they do it!
My first trip to Curacao....after researching, I decided to rent a car and I am glad I did. The roads are easy to travel, they drive on the same side of street as the US and for the most part fairly easy to navigate with their signage. The Marriott along with the Hilton are located at Piscadera bay. Literally minutes from Willemstad, the capital where you will find shopping, restaurants and nitelife. The Marriott is also conveinently located 15 minutes from the airport. So from what I found ideal location for home base.
After breakfast each morning, we hit road exploring the beautiful beaches and great snorkeling Curacao has to offer. We are not divers but clearly one of the major attractions for Curacao is the access to the numerous shore diving spots. We found the best beaches and snorkeling to be on the west end of the island, Playa Kalki, Playa Kenepa (Knip) and our favorite Playa Lagun are all on the western and sounthern side of Curacao. We also hit Cas Abao, Playa Portomarie (both of these locations charge for access) and east of Willemstad, Tugboat near Caracasbaai. Tugboat is exactly that, a sunken tugboat 50 meters from the shore at the dive shop. We also visited the ruins of Fort Beekenburg while visiting Tugboat. The other interesting spot here that we did not visit is JanThielbaai.
After beaching it everyday we returned to the Marriott to prepare for dinner. I was expecting the culinary experience to be a little better here (Curacao) only because there seemed to be so many options in Willemstad. The Marriott has a great list of restaurants and menus in the lobby by the front desk. Anyway, a little disappointed. I don't want to sound too critical here because the food was good just not Wow! Dinner at the Marriott was mediocre and our "fine dining" night out was Bistro le Clouchard at Rif fort. Great location but the food and service VERY UNDERwhelming, especially for the price. Having said that, stick to casual dining in the islands. I simply think I got my hopes up for a great French dining experience...all we got was the price tag.
After dinner we hit the Emerald Casino at the Marriott every night. From what I could tell all of the casinos in Curacao are tiny so don't expect the James Bond atmosphere here. While small, the emerald casino was nice offering slots ( I think all 1c), blackjack ($5 min), Caribbean stud, roullette, craps, hold'em and most import free drinks while playing. I would say the crowd mix was 50% resort guests and 50% locals. One comment on the locals...this was my first Dutch island experience, I found the local residents to be much more refined than on other Caribbean islands. All speak 4 languages native Papiamento, Dutch, Spanish and English. On the beaches, I was not approached once to buy something or have my hair braided. This was new to me in the Caribbean.
In closing, another great vacation from Cheap Caribbean and another great cultural experience on Curacao. Truly a diver's and snorkeler's paradise coupled with the amenities of Marriott...it was awesome!

The Curacao Marriott Beach Resort does offer an optional All inclusive package. When making reservations you would need to upgrade your room category to say Escape Inclusive at the end of it.

The coral in the water is beautiful, but it can present a hazard for bare feet. Be sure to wear water shoes to avoid being cut.

There's great snorkeling and diving just a few feet from the Marriott Beach Resort in Curacao, but if you want to do something in town, the hotel provides free transportation twice a day.

Hotel Description
Curacao Marriott Beach Resort: Emerald of the Caribbean
Set on six acres of lush, tropical gardens bordered by 900 feet of lustrous white sands, Curacao Marriott Beach Resort & Emerald Casino beckons to weary travelers. And yet, this oasis of tranquility off Piscadera Bay is surprisingly close to everything! The airport is just 15 minutes to the north, and downtown Willemstad, with its charming Dutch culture, is even closer.
More than anything else, though, magnificent coral reefs and brilliant tropical fish draw visitors to Curacao. If you want to slip beneath the waves for a closer look, that's not a problem at Curacao Marriott Beach Resort. PADI instructors at the five-star water sports center help you make your dreams come true. You can also rent small sailboats and personal watercraft at the center.
When you feel like simply relaxing, take a leisurely stroll along the beach. Be sure to stop by the surfer-themed Board Room Beach Bar for a mojito or pina colada, and then slide into a 20-person hot tub. Surprise your honey with a couple's massage on the beach. Don't worry about the kids! They'll be busy feeding iguanas, designing postcards and building sandcastles, supervised by hotel staff.
When the sun sets and your tummy demands satisfaction, nothing beats the elegant Mediterranean ambiance of Portofino. Savor seafood and pasta on the garden patio, followed by authentic tiramisu. If you prefer a more casual evening, look no farther than Seabreeze Beach Bar & Grill, where everything, from salads and wraps to grilled meats, is prepared Caribbean style. A crystal chandelier and mirrored walls reflect the light, and excitement, of the hotel's 5,000-sq-ft Emerald Casino. Table games include roulette, craps, Black Jack, and, of course, Caribbean stud poker, and slot machines.
You won't want to miss the museums, shops and galleries in historic Willemstad, so Curacao Marriott Beach Resort & Emerald Casino provides complimentary transportation twice a day. Other Curacao adventures waiting for you include the Seaquarium, the largest aquarium in the Caribbean, and the Curacao Liqueur Distiller, known for its cordial created from orange peel.
