Disappointing Honeymoon
My husband and I choose this place as our Honeymoon.
Cons:
-Slow food service
-Limited breakfast dining choices
-No AC when we arrived and the entire next day the Power Co. shut off all electricity and how water. For some reason our room had no water at all.
-Extremely expensive food, plus a 17.5% tax and a 10 % service charge
- Very far away from all other restraurants, cab rides are extremely pricey as well
- Beach was rough water
Pros:
-Beautiful atmosphere, including beach and pool and rooms
- Zen restaurant
- Hotel staff was friendly
We stayed at the Crane in Barbados and had a wonderful time. We did not "upgrade" and had a very nice large living room with kitchen and a large bed and bath room. And a beach and ocean view! Concierge at the Crane was very helpful. The restaurants were delicious but the food is not cheap in Barbados. Oistins was fun...bring cash. Cool Runnings Catamaran was a lot of fun, too. We loved the crew. We rented and car for one day and were able to tour most of the island. All islanders were very nice and helpful. We visited in June and did not have a problem with mosquitoes. Please note -all Rum punch on the island is very strong! Loved the trip!
The atomosphere is one that I will never forget, alot of factors contributed to my ratings of both booking with Cheap Caribbean and The Crane, besides that I would have to say seeing both the Atlantic and Caribbean could not have been better. The people in Barbados are some of the most happiest people that I have come across. The countries most common spoken language is English and 80% of there tourist are from the UK. They do not get alot of people from "the States" but are very custom to our lifestyle. The Bajan currency is easily exchanged between US $ and our money is double the Bajan $.
The way to get around the town is by taxi and be sure to go on the Snorkeling Cruise. The staff on that cruise are phenomenal with kids and adults. They really get everyone involved.
I stayed at the Crane but I enjoyed Barbados because of the locals. I would recommend a All-Inclusive stay in Barbados if you are looking to budget, have fun, and enjoy your stay.
My anniversary would have been much better if I knew all of this before booking.
This was our third trip to the Crane and it gets better each time. This time there were 4 of us and we stayed in a two bedroom penthouse in building 9. This place was amazing with constant ocean breezes blowing through every room. Air conditioning was not an issue because the breezes kept us cool and comfortable. The new village is great and we had a great time at Bar 1887. They had a great group of singers on Thursday and Friday. We ate at all the restaurants with Zen being my favorite. Spring Rolls are a must. L'Azure was great as well with excellent service at both. We only ate at the Italian restaurant for lunch so can't say how dinner was but the pizzas were quiet good. We are already excited about our next trip to the crane.

This is not the same property. Unfortunately, Sam Lord 's Castle burned to the ground in late 2010.

Room Information
While The Crane remains steeped in Barbadian history, the property also offers 21st century conveniences and amenities. There are 146 suites all with kitchens or kitchenettes. Ground floor suites feature "infinity edge" private pools, while all two-bedroom residences on the upper floors feature individual plunge pools. Crane suites also feature oversized whirlpool baths, spa showers with multiple showerheads, DVD players and in-room Internet access. The resort also offers wireless Internet access in the lobby and around the renowned main pool.
The rooms and suites of the historic resort -- inspiration for the new development -- are each unique in design and location, all with authentic antique furnishings. Many feature original coral stone walls, spectacular views, and elegant canopy or four-poster beds. Once part of a private mansion built in 1790, this part of the resort was first expanded and established as a hotel in 1887; it was recently restored.
Room Details
Junior Garden View Suite Private Residence - Adults Only
The property is a self contained resort with one of the best beaches in Barbados as the back drop. Every suite accommodation has been finished to an incredible standard. The resort has recently added the Village section, and with the brings several new restaurants and entertainment options.
What We'd Change
The beach while beautiful does not have a gentle ocean. The waves are quite big. On the upside, there are several great swimming pools.
Why You Should Go
If you want elegant accommodation, a huge beach, and some nice restaurants, this is the place to go. You will need a car. Be sure to check out the Gospel brunch and the Asian restaurant, Zen.
