Beautiful and Relaxing Experience
This was our fourth visit to Jamaica. Our last two trips were to Couples Negril and we really enjoyed that resort. Couples Sans Souci is a different experience. Part of the resort is located on a cliff providing magnificent views of the ocean, beach and mountains. The walkways and pathways, throughout the resort, are lush with tropical plants and trees. Every turn provides another unique and wonderful view. Since this resort only holds about 300 guests we found it to be very intimate. When strolling some of the pathways, it was common to never come across another guest. We stayed in the F block, on the top floor, and our view from our room and balcony was the best we have ever experienced. If you have trouble walking we would strongly recommend getting a beach-front room. These rooms are located directly across from the main beach, reducing the need to go up and down levels. The staff is friendly and helpful, providing great service. The food was excellent. We had some of the best steaks and deserts at this resort. Compared to Couples Negril the food selection was not as varied, but what they provided was exceptional. If there was one thing we could change about this resort we would relocate the white river, which empties into the ocean at the au natural beach area. Although this river was beautiful; the cooler water from the river created temperature variations (cool and warm spots) in the ocean water. If you are looking for a larger beach to stroll on and warmer water temperatures (without rocks) we would recommend Couples Negril. However we found the seclusion and picturesque views at Couples Sans Souci to outweigh these negatives. Compared to Couples Negril the au natural beach at Couples Sans Souci is much larger and secluded. It also has its own pool, swim-up pool bar and grill. Just remember to bring water-shoes. I think that almost 1/3 to ½ the guests used the au natural area. It was so relaxing and freeing. We highly recommend this resort and we plan to return.
From the moment you arrive and they greet you with "welcome home" this resort treated us as if we were family. The staff goes out of their way to please you. The restaurants had plenty of food but the menu could offer more choices and change more daily. We had a beach front room and it was close to everything. There was plenty to do and we never left the resort even though there were tours included in the price of the all inclusive. You could eat and drink almost 24 hours a day. Many of the guest are repeat customers to the resort. We used the spa and it was excellent. There was no need to wake up early to save a chair at the beach or pool. There was always a place to sit and sun. The only diappointment was the diving. There are no wall dives or reefs and all we saw was sand and a few fish. There seemed to be no coral. There was nothing to see but this could have been due to Hurricane Sandy which came though a month before. I never researched the diving before going so I don't know what it really is like. We have been to Bonaire several times and the diving cannot compare. If you want to go somewhere where you can completely relax or have plenty activities to participate in then this is your resort.
Couples San Souci is a very laid-back resort east of Ocho rios on the northern coast of Jamaica. The 2 hours shuttle from Montego Bay airport was clean and the driver, Byron, was extremely friendly. He was eager to answer our barrage of questions and was more than happy to stop for Red Strip, the local fruit being sold by people on the side of the road (Guinep was in season), and even a bit of jerk from one of the larger stands.
The resort itself is excellent. It is quiet, with stairs and winding paths through pristinely-manicured jungle draped around and across the hillside of the upper suites, reception, and spa area. Winding alone through small paths, you will occasionally pop onto a terrace to find a hammock or two and brilliant view of the Caribbean stretching out into the distance down a cliffside.
For a more traditional resort feel with a lively scene, the beachfront bar and grill with rooms overlooking the main sand is just a minute stroll away, but a world of difference. People line up on the beach each day, some sunning and napping, others reading, and the more adventurous enjoying the sailboats, sail board, snorkeling, boat trips, volleyball, etc etc etc. The watersports staff are helpful and friendly and more than eager to play a game of any type with you if you so desire.
The rooms and the entire resort were exceptionally clean, and the in-room bar and room-service breakfast provide the opportunity for relaxation and seclusion if you so desire. We stayed in a 1-bedroom ocean view suite which was quite sizable and had two full bathrooms and a large deck overlooking some palm trees and the ocean. We worried that being close to one of the many patios would be problematic, but we almost never saw another person up on the hill or along the jungle garden walkways, so the opportunity for privacy was always available.
The only negative I could say about the entire trip is there is a distinct lack of culinary variety. The head chef clearly has an Italian background, and does an excellent job at the "fine dining" restaurant, but after 5 nights of very similar food each evening, my wife and I were definitely ready for some variety.
Overall, the resort facilities and ambiance are relaxed and tranquil, but perfectly maintained and extremely clean. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful, managing to be both enthusiastic and bright but also willing to give you privacy when you desire. I highly recommend Couples San Souci for a romantic getaway or long weekend of relaxation and recuperation.

Already planning a return trip...
Couples San Souci was a wonderful resort. The staff was friendly and attentive. The scuba diving was first rate with a great diving staff. We didn't have a bad meal during the entire trip. One small complaint... the service was a bit slow in Casanova, the upscale dining option. However, the food was superb. The first room we were given was in G building. It is on the east side of the resort. Although it had a stunning view from the enormous balcony, it was a bit lacking in amenities. We requested a room change to an ocean front room in either A or B building and they were very accommodating. It was a minimal upgrade charge ($20/night) to move to the ocean front room, but it was worth it. The rooms in A & B are more luxurous and more recently renovated, in addition to being closer to the main beach & two of the three restaurants. While we were at San Souci, a nest of sea turtles hatched on the property and we were not only able to witness this amazing sight, but we were allowed to "chaperone" the turtles to ensure that they made it to the ocean. The Wildlife Mgr, Lesworth, was very knowledgable and really made the entire experience memorable. We will definitely be returning next year.

From what I've read one of the nicest beaches at Couples San Souci is a nude beach. We are more of the beach type versus the pools. Can you use this beach with a bathing suit or do you have to be nude? Obviously we wouldn't want to make anyone feel uncomfortable but while I have no problem being without clothes my wife does for herself.

Mr Diablo.. .while my hubby and I stayed at Couples Tower Isle (LOVED IT!) we did walk (yea-- TOO far) to San Souci. We ventured onto the Au Nautral Beach and noted there was people sunning their bums at the pool two. There were two other beautiful quite beaches where clothes were permitted. I didn't see any other au natural pools. It's definitely worth calling the resort. The resort felt like a jungle.. it was amazing and we'll probably stay there next time!!
There are two beaches at San Souci, one that requires clothes and one that is au natural. You can not go to the au natural beach and wear clothing except after 5 p.m. for the sunset hour.
The beach is closely monitored and is not a "clothing optional" beach but a totally nude beach. Thus you have to be nude. It is not the greatest nude beach we have been to and personal watercraft and tour boats often come near to gaze at the people on the beach. Also, locals come down the White River and sit on the sand bar (about 30 feet out) and watch what goes on. We did not feel secluded. The pool area is much more secluded and most of the people spent their time there.
There are two beaches - the au natural beach is secluded with a guard and no cameras allowed of course. There is plenty of beach for modest bathers in the bathing suit required main beach area. We absolutely loved the mineral pool, grottoes and small beach below the spa.
The nude beach has lots of peebles and rocks, not the best beach at San Souci. Now it is the best beach to view the amazing sunsets. No you can't use the beach with a bathing suit until after 5 p.m. at that time everyone is suppose to get dressed so you can view the sunset. But not everyone does get dressed, but they do stay over by the pool area and away from the people that are there to view the sunset. Besure and take water shoes to this beach, due to the rocks the waves bring into shore.
they have a portion of the resort tht is nude, but completely separate from the rest of the resort.
We did not visit the au natural beach except at night (when you can wear clothes), but my understanding is that during the day (i.e. prior to 5 p.m.) to use the beach you must be nude.
You must be completely nude after arriving at your spot at the pool or the beach. There is a sign posted before you enter this beach. If your wife is hesitant, just head to the right side of the beach where it is more private and isolated and give it 30 minutes. Once she gets over the initial shock, she may surprise herself about tanning without a suit on.
Couples San Souci has two beaches. One is the regular beach and one is au natural . This beach is secluded and is not clothing optional. My husband and I are not nude bathers so we spent our entire vacation on the main beach and it was perfectly fine for our tastes. It might be a bit smaller than the nude beach but more than sufficient.
It is by far the nicest beach. The Main beach is very crowded, and the nude thing isn't as bad as your thinking. You are allowed to walk onto the beach with clothes on, but you must take them off after finding a place to sit. They do not allow you to have clothes on at Sunset beach until after 5:00. I had never done Au Naturel, and it took me about 2 minutes to be comfortable with it.
It is an Au Natural beach & pool, not Clothing Optional. Therefore, if you go to the Au Natural side, you are not allowed to stay clothed.
There are two beaches at this resort. Both are beautiful. The nude beach is for couples without their suits only. The beach is seclude and there is no way for someone to bother you because you cannot get there unless you get by the front gates. The beach is in a cove and can only be reached by boat from the water side. This is also good because local people never come to bother you.

Scuba costs?? Listed as complimentary then again as additional charge7 answers
Is there a charge for scuba diving?
Many all-inclusive resorts offer a introductory scuba diving class free of charge while some offer a free session in the ocean. For the most up to date and accurate information you would be best to check directly with the resort.
There is no extra charge for the scuba diving. However you are not free to dive on you own (only with dive master). There was nothing to see when we went but sand on the bottom and a few fish. It doesn't seem to be a dive destination.
If you are not PADI qualified, you get one free 30 ft dive. You have to go through a short intro course in the pool at the resort. I was not qualified and did it. Showed up at 8:45 and was done by 12:30 pm. That was free and each additional dive is $50. If you are scuba qualified, then I believe you can dive for free as many times as you want. Hope this helps.
Didn't do it personally, but was told by someone who went scuba diving it was complimentary but they gave the instructor a tip.
They offer a complimentary Discover Scuba course in the pool in the morning that also includes a dive to about 35 feet near a shipwreck after you learn the required skills. If you are interested in getting an open water PADI certification there is a fee involved but it is pretty similar to what you would find in the US. Mine cost $365 during my trip in May 2013. If you are already a certified scuba diver, they offer 2 tours a day, every day, at no additional cost with all the equipment needed included and you can go as often as you like!
The only charge is for wet suit rental which is optional and night dives. Those are for certified divers only and and cost $ 35 per person.
If you are a certified diver, there is no cost for scuba diving. They offer a resort course as well as PADI certified diving courses for an additional charge.

If taking a cart $65 for cart and caddie. Caddie is required. Tipped $40 first day, $35 second; includes caddie and cab tip. Not sure about rentals but the people in the pro shop were very helpful.
