Ceiba del Mar Spa Resort

Ideally situated on more than a half-mile stretch of secluded beach bathed by the Caribbean Sea, Ceiba del Mar is an oasis of natural beauty honoring Mayan and Mexican tradition.

The resort houses a health spa with about 40 holistic and natural treatments based on ancient Mayan wisdom combined with current technologies. Other hotel amenities include a spa tub, pool complex, and swim-up bar. Rooftop terraces are a perfect place to enjoy the sunset as well as cocktails or candle-lit dinners arranged via personal butlers.

Located on the beach is an igloo-like temazcal, or Mayan sweat lodge. At sunset and with reservations, guests enter the torch-lit lodge for an ancient purification ritual in which they are enveloped by herb-scented steam from water poured on hot volcanic rocks. (Surcharges may apply.)

The fishing village of Puerto Morelos is 1 mile away.

The resort comprises 126 guestrooms in eight three-story white buildings with thatched roofs. A concierge is assigned to each building. Decor includes antiques, hand-carved benches, wood-latticed windows, a 300-year-old stained-glass window in the lobby bar, and a carved rock depicting the sacred Mayan ceiba tree.

Padded wood lounge chairs face the sea; the pool complex spans two level: the upper includes a round pool and the lower features a freeform pool, large spa tub, and swim-up bar. The resort also offers a lending library stocked with videos and CDs (complimentary). Like all major Mayan Riviera hotels, the hotel has a water-purification system.

The European plan includes Continental breakfast delivered to guestrooms or suites each morning.

Gourmet all-inclusive dining is offered as well, featuring a la carte dining in all three restaurants. Premium-brand drinks and house wines are available as are pool and beach side waiter services. Classically trained chefs use seasonal ingredients, locally caught fish, and USDA prime meats in all on-site restaurants. Homemade breads, pastries, and desserts are also featured, and the wine cellar is stocked with a variety of French, Italian, Chilean, and American fine wines.
