Escape to the all inclusive, adults-only Catalonia Royal Bavaro in Punta Cana, where the party's rollin', the Zen is flowin' and the kids are, well, absent. Thatched-roof palapas pepper the white sands along the resort's private stretch of one of the Caribbean's most famous beaches, Playa Bavaro. Grab a cocktail from the beach bar and wade in gloriously blue waters, or bask in the warm island sun next to one of the resort's two fabulous pools: one 4,305-sq-ft infinity pool with a view, another with an integrated Jacuzzi and swim-up bar.

Friendly staff, just very quiet
This resort was very nice, friendly staff, nice beaches, nice rooms. Just seemed very quiet and not much choice if you wanted to have a few beers/cocktails after hours. The place seemed to shut down at 6pm and you had to get dressed up if you wanted dinner/drinks at night. Which isn't a bad thing, but just no choice to have a full beach/lazy day if you didn't feel like getting out of your shorts and t-shirts. Room service is available and very good, but they won't deliver drinks, only food. Overall a very nice resort with good food if you are wanting a quiet, low-key vacation.

Not at this adult resort!
Big time communication Barriers! Wait staff in restaurants and bars do not understand english. Thank goodness for the sister resort next door! They had live entertainment each night, a huge buffet, Italian, Mexican, Japenese and Steak house to choose from. Tuesday night was the big Beach Party danced until 0100 then into their disco unti 0300! You would think the "adult only" side would be "whooping" it up, instead, it was very mellow with a piano player twice a week and couches and chairs outside to promote socialization...maybe? It was boring and cheap..next time I come back here I will stay at the Excellence like I did before..now that resort is well worth the $$$!
Overall, The Royal Catalonia Bavaro offered great service- everyone was really friendly and helpful, especially since my friend has celiac disease and required a gluten-free diet. The staff did a great job at helping her choose items that were safe for her to eat.
Staying at the Royal had many benefits- we could enjoy our own restaurants and amenities as well as those on the Catalonia Bavaro side. We enjoyed the food at majority of the restaurants, and had a great time watching the evening shows.
We both liked the peacefulness of the Royal side, especially the quiet beach.
What I didn't like was the shallowness of the beach. From the shore to the floating line, the beach was very shallow and there were many hills and rock patches in the sand making it impossible to swim or even walk properly in the water.
To compensate for this, the Infinity pool on our resort offered a refreshing and beautiful pool to swim in, with a great view.
Again, great experience overall!
We stayed here from January 18-25 and were very happy. The resort is composed of "two sides"--this side (Catolina Royal Bavaro) which is the adults only side and then a more family friendly side. If you don't have children, definitely stay on the adults only side--it's smaller and quieter, but you can still jump to the other side whenever you want. As a guest on the adults only side of the resort, you have access to all the facilities at both resorts.
There are three restaurants on the adult side and about eight (i.e. Italian, Asian, Mexican, Steakhouse, etc.) on the other side. The food was great with lots of variety and options. We never needed reservations. We enjoyed one of the restaurants on the adults only side the best -- Thalassa. There is also 24 hour room service. We ordered breakfast several times and were very happy with it.
The beach was beautiful with lots of lounges and shady spots. There were two pools which were both great.
The staff was fantastic and went above and beyond. Very nice, friendly, personable.
Our room was great. The only minor complaint is that the room always feel a little humid, but that's due to the weather and there's nothing the staff could do about that. The AC worked great, as did the ceiling fan.
The spa was great and the prices were very reasonable. Gym was good, as were the hot tubs.
This is a small resort that isn't trying to be a "four seasons" or anything like that. But it's a great resort and well-worth the price and we can't think of any reason that we weren't happy.

First time DR Traveler
Cheap caribbean offers the Junior Suite Superior category which is described:
Includes one king-sized canopy bed; air conditioning and ceiling fan; living room; terrace with hammock; telephone; plasma television; DVD/CD player with free movies; beach towels in the room; colonial-style furniture; pillow menu; wireless Internet access; mini bar with soft drinks, beer and snacks; coffeemaker and safe. The marble bathrooms have a separate shower, round bathtub, hair dryer, bathrobe, slippers and VIP amenities.
The VIP amenities would include your complimentary shampoo, lotion and soap products in addition to the bathrobe and slippers which are provided
ccsusan1
The only VIP amenties I saw were VIP seating areas in the restaurants, they have servers that will bring you drinks rather than having to get them yourself. There could be others, but that is all I saw last week.

This is not a topless resort. It is an adults only resort meaning that there are no children allowed at the resort, not necessarily that it is a topless resort.
bscheliga
Yes, several people were topless on the beach.

Catalonia Royal Bavaro: Punta Cana is Where the Grown-Ups Go to Play
Escape to the all inclusive, adult-only Catalonia Royal Bavaro in Punta Cana,
where the party's rollin', the Zen is flowin' and the kids are, well, absent.
Thatched-roof palapas pepper the white sands along the resort's private stretch
of one of the Caribbean's most famous beaches, Playa Bavaro. Grab a cocktail

infinity pool with a view, another with an integrated Jacuzzi and swim-up bar.
Beautifully bronzed and ready to take on the nightlife? Fuel up for your
night of partying with the lobster tail from Thalasa, or indulge in yummy tapas
from Cata Tapa. Resort guests enjoy not only all the facilities and amenities
of Catalonia Royal Bavaro, but can also venture to the nearby sister resort,
Catalonia Punta Cana for an additional nine restaurants and four bars (just
look out for the youngsters, as that resort is kid and family friendly).
When the morning comes round again and the sun-drenched beaches beckon,
explore the tranquil waters of the bay by catamaran, or check out the bustling
sea life of the Caribbean by snorkeling. Indulge your competitive side and hit
the sands for a volleyball match, or grab a tee time at either of the two
neighboring golf courses, The Cabeza de Toro Golf Club (nine-hole) and Caribe
Golf Club (18-hole), are both designed by Alberto Sola. If your favorite
activity is set to the soundtrack of rolling dice and shuffling cards, sidle up
to one of the slot machines in Casino Punta Cana and test your luck.
For those whose activity schedule is gloriously out of commission, take a
short stroll down to the stress-obliterating Alegria Spa for a heavenly session
of pampering before heading back to the luxury of one of the resort's spacious
suites, where you can laze the day away swinging in the hammock on your private
balcony, grazing on room-service goodies and gazing out at the glittering
turquoise sea.
