I loved everything in the resort including food, room, service and offered amenities. The beach is beautiful with a lot of palm trees. Just two facts the future traveler should to know which disappointingly surprised us. The shore was covered with see weed which terribly smells and makes swimming almost impossible (We went in second half of July and they say its a seasonal thing). They cleaned the beach from time to time and we managed to enjoy the sea later. Another thing is a timeshare promotion on the first day, it is quite annoying, I think they should be less aggressive in promoting those deals when guests are not interested. Overall, the resort itself and services are excellent which somehow compensated these two unpleasant facts. I would still recommend to go to this resort.

Good not Great

We had a good trip to Royal Bavaro overall. The grounds were beautiful and the staff went out of their way to help us. Most staff did not speak fluent English so brush up on your Spanish! The food for the most part was good but not fantastic. There were problems with our air conditioning and hot water during the whole trip but the staff tried to accommodate us the best they could. The beach was a little disappointing because there was so much seaweed and coral it made it a little hard to go in the water. Overall we enjoyed our time there but will probably spend our money elsewhere next time.

The Greatest Paradise

My goodness, I could not be more pleased with this incredible resort. We spent a week here on our honeymoon and we had the time of our lives. I wanted to write out what we loved most in hopes that this review will be useful for others who book this resort. The staff at this resort are the kindest people that you will ever meet. They are so willing to help and serve and are always so genuine to their guests. Because we speak Spanish I know that helped a lot, but we even witnessed how great they were with the language barrier with others. The room was gorgeous and had everything that we needed. We spent a lot of our time at the pools that were absolutely gorgeous! The swim up bar in the non-infinity pool was one of our favorite parts. Unlimited piña coladas and banana mamas (a piña colada with banana) was just heaven for us. The infinity pool is more relaxed and less crowded at almost all times so if that is more you, you will enjoy that pool. If we weren't at a pool, we were eating the INCREDIBLE food at this resort. The Tapas Restaurant was gourmet HEAVEN! I would recommend the veal, and the fried manchego. It was to die for! Sea Blue Restaurant was another restaurant that we went to frequently. It sits right next to the infinity pool and lies on the edge of the beach. So gorgeous and such good food. The Wood Fire Pizza was excellent as well, this is right next to the other pool. One of the greatest assets of this whole resort is the access to the Catalonia Bavaro, the more family friendly, entertaining resort. It was RIGHT NEXT to the Catalonia Royal and had several other restaurants. Yuca, the Caribbean Restaurant was TO DIE FOR. The Jerk Chicken was just what we needed. The Steakhouse was excellent, I would recommend the Coulette Steak. We enjoyed the buffet with lots of delicious food and the best fresh mango that life has to offer. If you order breakfast for room service, get the Healthy Breakfast and the Dominican Breakfast. There is plenty of food and it is absolutely delicious. The Entertainment each night was completely enjoyable and ended each night with smiles and laughs. We absolutely LOVED this resort and would give the highest recommendation possible. The only complaint we had was that because of the time of year, the beach was quite filled with seaweed, we wish we could have been in that water more. Other than that, we would not change a THING about our vacation to this paradise. I hope this review can convince any customer to book this resort and have an incredible experience here!

Quiet, tropical paradise

We picked the perfect resort for our speed -- lazy days and quiet nights. But there is plenty to do at this resort and the sister resort next door if that's your thing. We definitely felt like this resort was a place to escape chaos and the in-your-face cruise ship like experience of other resorts. Note: we upgraded to an exclusive suite with a private pool and that made all the difference in the world. Definitely worth it if you can afford it. Beach: AWESOME! The best snorkeling we did on the trip was 20-50 feet off shore of our resort. Food: mediocre. There were several restaurants to choose from and we didn't have to repeat a dinner destination once during our stay. Food was decent but if you're traveling specifically for cuisine you may want to look elsewhere. That being said, for an all inclusive, the food was on par with expectations. Service: hit or miss. When it came to getting a cocktail, there were no complaints. Be kind to your servers and bar tenders with a tip and you'll be treated like family. Restaurant service was a different story. Some servers were great and others appeared to be over worked. Front desk service was the same. Often, we would get the run around but that may have been a language barrier. We definitely got good service as we were upgrading rooms. But fixing curtains or finding an outside service was never straightforward or helpful. Overall: highly recommend. I think it was a great value. A luxury experience for a modest cost.

What's to Love

It's an all-inclusive Dominican dream escape.

Chillaxing at the infinity pool with shaded, cushy loungers & hammocks on the beach.

The self-serve Bloody Marys and mimosas at breakfast.

Escaping via the spa: massages by the sea, Turkish baths and sauna.

What We'd Change

Casino Punta Cana closes at midnight, but the resort's club, Cats, and the bar by the pool are both open late for night owls.

Why You Should Go

It's 20 miles from the Punta Cana airport. Vacay cocktails will appear pronto.

Two gorgeous golf courses designed by Alberto Sola are near.

If you're up for meeting up with Lady Luck, there's a casino onsite.

Soana Island is an aahmazing excursion and is relatively near. So worth it.
