Loved it, But Would Try Another Resort Next Time

First of all, this was mine and my husband's very first experience at an all inclusive, so I may have had high expectations or maybe nitpicking a little, but there are definitely somethings I would have liked to be better. To start with the positives: Our room - was amazing! We did opt for the larger suite with private pool, so that exceeded the expectations for sure. It was so nice to have our own pool and the two story room was insane! So worth it. The beach was really nice! There was almost always a chair available, I think only one time we went and couldn't find a chair, but ended up going to the infinity pool that day anyway. The beach side bar is really cool too. The bartenders and beach runners are so friendly. One of the bartenders eventually knew my drinks and was already making them when he saw me walking up to the bar! Sea Blue Bar & Grill, Cata Tapa, and the Sorrento pizza place were my favorite places to eat! Sea Blue Bar & Grill had delicious options for both lunch & dinner, we went there a couple times for both. Cata Tapa was hands down, the best meal we had there. They serve appetizer size dishes, but we ordered 9 different things! & Everything was great! The Piano Bar was really fun to hang out in, too! The bartender there so fun! Now, a few less than positives: the beach was a little dirty. I've seen pictures of other resorts/areas in Punta Cana, and the beaches looked crystal clear and perfectly clean. So maybe it was the time of year or something? Not sure on this one, but that was kind of gross. The food was lackluster. I was expecting really good food, all the time. I was probably happy with my meals..75% of the time. Which isn't bad, considering. I'm not that picky of a person either, so I think they just need better choices. Some of the themed restaurants were different. The main restaurant in their lobby, "Thalassa", was very disappointing! It was supposed to be fancy, even had a dress code, as a couple of the restaurants do. But the food there was terrible, service was even worse! It was just an awful experience. We were glad we didn't choose to have our last night's dinner there. The Asian themed restaurant, Tao Cat, was alright, nothing delicious though. And room service isn't that good. We got it the first night and thought it was delicious, but then thought it might have been just because were were tired and hungry from traveling that day. Who knows, but it wasn't good the other two times we ordered that week. The only staff member that felt very unreceptive was the lady that sat at the concierge type desk in the very front of the lobby. She was so unhelpful and just plain rude to me, on two different occasions that I asked her questions. I ended up just walking away in the middle of a conversation because I couldn't take her demeaning attitude. She talked to me as though I was stupid for not knowing something, after I implied I hadn't done any of this before. All in all, it was a great experience and the staff was super friendly! I would recommend this place because it was such a good deal for the full 7 nights that we stayed. The pools, room, drinks, and (most of) the food were great! I like to experience different resorts, so we would most likely choose somewhere else when we go back to the Dominican Republic, but we can't wait to return because it was absolutely beautiful!!

Not the Best

This was a beautiful resort. However, very quiet and Not much going on. You do have access to the family side where there was a lot more action. Our room was nice but reeked of mildew to the point it was making us sick. Also food was not that great. Must get to beach very early in the morning to find a seat, not a lot of chairs and huts available after 9am.

What's to Love

It's an all-inclusive Dominican dream escape.

Chillaxing at the infinity pool with shaded, cushy loungers & hammocks on the beach.

The self-serve Bloody Marys and mimosas at breakfast.

Escaping via the spa: massages by the sea, Turkish baths and sauna.

What We'd Change

Casino Punta Cana closes at midnight, but the resort's club, Cats, and the bar by the pool are both open late for night owls.

Why You Should Go

It's 20 miles from the Punta Cana airport. Vacay cocktails will appear pronto.

Two gorgeous golf courses designed by Alberto Sola are near.

If you're up for meeting up with Lady Luck, there's a casino onsite.

Soana Island is an aahmazing excursion and is relatively near. So worth it.
