So Sad To Come Home!

My boyfriend and I travel to a carribean destination every summer. We've booked through other companies times before and had a great time but this trip was by far my favorite! It's the cheapest trip we've been on and everything was perfect. Service, food, beaches, drinks, rooms, everything was ideal. I couldn't have asked for a better vacation! Also, Cheap Carribean's call center service was so helpful. We had made a mistake upon entering our information in the first time and they went in and fixed it for us, no problem. Catalonia Riviera Maya is a MUST for all beach lovers!

Friend Trip

Overall our trip was fantastic! There isn't much of a beach here but they keep what they have very clean. The food was pretty good but it wasn't excellent. The staff was very friendly but do not bring drinks to you. As far as the rooms, they were pretty normal hotel rooms but we had issues keeping them cool. We did enjoy our experience and would recommend the resort! The trips that you book at the hotel not so much! The xplore trip is highly recommended! We had a blast but you will get a workout in! The chitchen itza tour that includes the swim in the cenote I would pass. The tour starts out with a tourist trap/promotional market. Chichen itza is very cool to see but every path is lined with pushy venders inside the park! The cenote was cool but it was very crowded and not enjoyable to swim in. If i was going to do it again I would just take a taxi.

Great vacation for the price

This was my first time in Mexico, and Catalonia exceeded my expectations in a great way. The room was clean, the staff was amazing, and it was overall a very comfortable place to stay. I was nervous because there were some mixed reviews but this hotel is a great option if you're looking for a great and affordable place to stay. The buffet food was a bit average but the restaurants were all really delicious. We ate at 3 of the la carte restaurants including Los Alebrijes (Mexican), Terrace Tapas (Spanish, our favorite place we ate), and Ayami (Japanese hibachi). We did have a problem booking excursions through the place the hotel has in their lobby; our reservation was wrong twice so we ended up cancelling it, so I do recommend being careful when booking with them. Other than that we didn't have any complaints. The beach is a bit rocky but if you go in the right spots you can comfortably walk in the ocean. The staff was very accommodating and friendly. Another FYI, at the shops you can only buy $300 worth of merchandise in pesos, which we did not originally know, so we exchanged our money for no reason and ended up just using a credit card. We did not upgrade to priviledged but we still had an amazing trip; I don't really think it is necessary to upgrade to have a great experience. At one point, we accidentally locked our safe and security came within 10 minutes to come help us out. Although our room did not have an iron, I asked for one and they brought it quickly without any issues. This resort is definitely not a place for you if you're looking to party, it is a more relaxed atmosphere with many couples and families. We didn't have a problem finding chairs any of the days except when we wanted to sit in the shade. Some people were holding chairs but there were enough to accommodate the amount of guests. I promise you won't regret your decision to stay here!

What's to Love

It's an all-inclusive, family-friendly bundle of beachy greatness.

Throwing back a welcome cocktail after finally arriving in paradise.

The much-needed, all-soothing hydrotherapy treatment at Spa Alegria.

Movin' & groovin' at the weekly beach party (with a savory drink in hand, of course).

What We'd Change

Catalonia Resort Riviera Maya has expansive grounds but doesn't feel like a mega-resort. Its rooms are housed in smaller buildings and villas and the natural setting keeps it feeling intimate.

Why You Should Go

It's an hour from the airport - patience is a virtue. You'll be on the sand soon.

Between the gym, land sports and water sports, the vacay weight will be easy to keep off.

The nightly shows at the theater will keep you nice and entertained every evening.

Upgrade to Privileged and fancy a private lounge, spa benefits and the Pure bar on the beach.
