Perched on your balcony overlooking Orient Bay, you finally feel at peace. You greet the morning air with a smile, at Le Grand Bleu, a boutique hotel on the French side of St. Martin. Teak and bamboo furnishings enhance the tropical allure of this Mediterranean-style hotel with only 35 rooms.

Orient Beach, the island's famous swimsuit optional beach, is directly in front of the hotel. The features of the bay, including its protective reef and gradually sloping sea floor, result in calm waters and great visibility. Reflected light, from the brilliant sand under the water, makes this beach ideal for snorkeling. The hotel provides complimentary towels and lounge chairs at the beach, as well as at its 40-ft pool.

Le Grand Blue has no restaurant of its own, but is within an easy walk of a wide selection of dining choices in Orient Bay Village. In fact, the resort has arranged signing privileges at several restaurants, so guests can pay the hotel directly when they check out. The Waikiki, an open-air, beachfront restaurant just a stone's throw away, offers family meals such as its Kosher Certified Roasted Organic Chicken, served with mashed potatoes. Of course, with kitchenettes in every suite, and a supermarket in the development, it's easy to whip up your own meals.

Get a bird's-eye view of the bay when you parasail over it, or check out the abundant sea life under the surface when you snorkel. Vendors on the beach offer these thrills, as well as rentals of jet skis, Hobie Cats and windsurfing equipment. You may prefer a quieter time, and if that's the case, why not have the hotel arrange for a massage on the beach?

At Le Grand Bleu, you're close to an amazing array of activities. A butterfly farm, less than one mile from the hotel, is simply irresistible. Hundreds of exotic butterflies flutter past as you stroll through an oasis of tropical flowers, trees and even a waterfall. In the morning watch butterflies emerge from their pupa to fly for the first time!

The hotel does not have a restaurant, but two of Orient Beach's open-air, beachfront restaurants are within 50 yards. Other restaurants and cafes are located in Orient Bay Village shopping center, 100 yards from the resort. The resort provides personalized guest cards with signing privileges to affiliated restaurants and beach activities, so guests can pay directly at the hotel upon departure. Nearby restaurants include Waikiki Beach Bar and Restaurant and Kontiki Beach Bar and Restaurant.
