My husband and I recently vacationed at the Breezes Grand. Our vacation was completely relaxing. We arrived at the resort mid afternoon, greeted by the front desk with Rum Punches, that was a pleasure after the hour and a half somewhat scary ride from the airport. We checked in and asked if we would like a room upgrade and refused, the clerk seemed disappointed. She escorted us to our room all the while telling us all about the facilities. The garden view room was very nicely decorated and comfortable. The view from our deck was spectacular. Food options were convenient and edible. The entertainment director and her assistant kept everyone busy if you wanted to be. The beach was beautiful and the service was pleasant, sometimes a little slow. Our only real issue was the shower in the room. An eight head shower was quite enticing unfortunately we rarely had any warm water and absolutely no water pressure. We called the front desk several times and it was never remedied. Overall our experience was a good one.

Not as advertised
This resort is not a 4 star. Maybe a 3 star at best. The maintenance is just enough to be passable. There were never enough lounge chairs on the beach or by the pool.If you didn't "claim" one by 9:00 a.m. you were out of luck because the staff didn't make an attempt to find more if you asked. The room was clean but not in top repair. We paid for an upgrade when we booked but were given a room very close to the dining/entertainment area so there was loud music going on until 11:00 the night we got there after a long day of traveling. Lunch time also was noisy. We asked for room change but couldn't get it until the second day. The food was good. It was impossible to get a reservation in one of the one restaurants that required a reservation. We tried the day we got there for any night that week but were told it was packed. We signed up for the Best of Jamaica Tour which left at 7:30am. Since the breakfast buffet didn't open until 7:30 the concierge said she would see to it that we got a picnic basket with breakfast food to go. We were given a cooler and upon opening it on the bus found it contained only drinks, no food. Bummer because lunch wasn't until 12:30 or 1:00. She did apologize sincerely the next morning and said she sent "something" to our room, hoped we would like it. By 8:00 pm nothing had arrived so we inquired and a nice bottle of Champaign was delivered at 9:30pm. The computer to check in for the flight home was not working so we had to do it at the airport. The massage was excellent, worth the money easily. They did offer many water sports(no additional costs) and interesting excursions (at additional cost). It is a good place for young people or people who haven't traveled a lot.
Before I get into my stay at this resort I have to start by saying that I am a very patient person who works in the Hospitality industry. I understand that things happen and it is very difficult to deliver a perfect experience to each and every guest. I have also had the luxury of going to Jamaica 8 times since March so I have stayed in many resorts and this is the first review I have ever written.
Where to begin.....the check-in process left a lot to be desired. We booked a one bedroom suite. We were informed that they did not have any suites and we would have to be put into a regular room. After being rushed through the check-in process were we whisked to our room. I am used to a quick download on hotel services and grounds. We were quite confused for a couple days with the location of things and services provided. The room had one king bed and a view of the nude beach (definitely not something I wanted or will let happen to me again). This trip was for me and a buddy (not a GF). We asked for a roll away bed to be brought because we were not planning on sleeping in the same bed. I know things move a little slower down there but it literally took two days (TWO DAYS!!!!) for them to bring the bed and that was after 5 telephone calls and us conducting our own little protest at the desk. The manager offered us a credit for the room difference which was considerably lower than the amount charged as an upgrade BUT she was only willing to give the credit in the form of a SPA credit. We were two guys looking to have fun. We were not looking to have our nails done or get massages. It took quite a long time to get her to agree to the credit and of course no one knew about it when we checked out. I eventually got to the same manager who I was initially dealing with and she forgot the entire conversation. So here we were again going over what happened and she went back into the spa credit technique (mind you we were checking out). I couldn't believe she didn't remember the conversation. I really thought she was kidding at first. So 15 minutes later we agreed on the same thing we agreed upon 4 days earlier.
The staff were very hit or miss depending on position. The activity staff were excellent. They put on quality shows and were great at interacting with guests. The bartenders were by far the WORST I have experienced in Jamaica. The rarely smiled and regardless of how many people were at the bar you were left waiting while they did some inane task. When a few guests commented on their speed it just got worse. These people actually looked miserable. We were there for 6 days and each day they were terrible. Each Day! The nursing staff was excellent. Apparently they have 1-2 guests each day step on Sea Urchins. When this happens the spikes break off and you have to have a Doctor remove them and sterilize the wound. How do I know this.......you guessed it. It happened to my buddy. It would have been nice to know that little fact and that the sea urchins congregate near the rocky part of their beach. Why wouldn't they tell you that??? Oh I know why. The Doctor bill was $280 (out-of-pocket). One a day x 365 days a year x $280 = $102,000. Wow! The wait staff were hit or miss. There are some great ones but at the A-Frame burger joint in the middle of the resort the service was a joke. It's hard not to take it personally when we are one of two tables in the restaurant (sitting next to the other table) and are unable to get service. The kicker is the waiter was talking to the other table, saw us, and took 8 minutes (timed because we had bad experiences here everyday) to come over only after being asked to. He said they were cleaning and we'd have to wait 5 minutes to order and get a drink. Mind you he was serving the two girls roughly 3 feet from our table. They got hand delivered popcorn, drinks, refills, etc.. Like I said it's hard not to take that personally. I thought the activity staff could have done a better job getting games going amongst guests but that is probably being overly critical.
I heard more guests complain at this resort than I have heard combined during my 7 other trips. That is probably because I was actually paying attention to what other people were saying. Not something I do often because I believe each experience is different to each person. That theory went right out the door because we were largely complaining about the same things. If I wasn't patient and in the "business" this trip would have been TERRIBLE. For the first time I can say I couldn't wait to leave. I actually considered leaving the resort and going somewhere else taking the loss of $.
The rooms were clean and comfortable. They were well-stocked and maintained throughout the day. The grounds were cleaned thoroughly throughout the day and the games were in good condition. The casino had slots that were not played very much.
In summary, staff was terrible, bar was drastically under stocked with glassware making it difficult to get a drink, beach has a sea urchin issue, food was adequate, resort was clean, management is incompetent, and they may not have the correct room that you have ordered. I have stayed in many resorts. My recommendation would be to choose one of the many other options in Negril. I have used Cheap Caribbean many times and am a raving fan. These issues had nothing to do with them or the service they provide. I hope this helps you with your vacation.
