A Nice Get-a-way

I enjoyed my stay at BlueBay but am not positive I would return. I had a room right next to the pool on the ground floor which was a little annoying at times but not a huge deal. It was nice to walk right out of the room and hop into the pool but if I return, will be asking for something further from the pool, possibly on the second floor with a balcony. I've seen other reviews talk about how loud it gets by the pool. Well, it does get loud but usually only during the day when folks are playing volleyball or there is some other activity going on. The noise isn't what bothered me, it was feeling on display if I felt like chillin in my room with the shades open. I would not consider this a 5 or 4 star resort as compared to resorts/hotels in the USA but it was more than adequate. The swim-up bar at the pool was a great place to kill some time, the only down side of it was that it closed at 6p. Other than that, the water was nice and clean. It would have been great if there was a hot tub to relax in but I couldn't find one. There were plenty of vendors down at the beach but very manageable if you politely say 'no' and don't engage in conversation. I went solo so didn't mind the idle chit chat and even hired one of the English speaking representatives to show me around which is something I will do if I go back.

Not a great place

The value was ok .... The resort itself was fairly run down. Not a lot to do so you must book excursions! Your choices are go to the beach or go to the pool bar. They only provide 1 key which is a pain when traveling as a couple. BEWARE young ladies... A girl we met was MORE than hit on by 2 of the emoployees when she was in the pool. The manger ignored her ....it took a lot of yelling to get anything done . I will not go to this resort again

What's to Love

The food here is simply superb. Award-winning chefs create innovative seafood and Asian menus so spectacular that every meal is better than the last and impossible to top.

What We'd Change

All rooms have a mini bar, but it's stocked only once on the Deluxe plan. Upgrade to Silver Deluxe, and it gets restocked every day.

Hotel Description

BlueBay Villas Doradas: Puerto Plata Pampering, Gourmet Dining

Set your watch to "island time" and let the hours melt away on the sun-drenched shores of Puerto Plata. Atop the sugary sands of the Dominican Republic sits the stunning, adults-only, all inclusive BlueBay Villas Doradas where you can play 24 hours of the day away on the shimmering waters of the Caribbean and the emerald fairways of Blue Bay's next-door neighbor, Playa Dorada Golf Course, an 18-hole, par-72 course designed by Robert Trent Jones, Sr.

Winner of the Thomas Cook Award for Excellence, the oceanfront Blue Bay Villas Doradas really knows how to pamper. Let the lapping sapphire waves carry your cares away as you laze under thatched beach umbrellas, or slip into one of the resort's three glittering swimming pools and order your favorite cocktail from the swim-up bar, Merengue.

When it comes time to dine, your taste buds won't be disappointed with exquisite menus at four delicious on-site restaurants, including El Jardin de Jade, serving up Asian fusion cuisine, and El Pescador, serving local catches straight from the surf to your seat. After you've cleaned your plate, get the party started at Oxygen Bar and welcome the wee-hours from the 24-hour Beach Club, where you can play, drink and snack all night.

Relax in the sauna before getting a couple's massage and finish with a dip in the Jacuzzi for maximum indulgence. Or, swap your white dress for a tennis skirt and get in a match on the resort's three tennis courts. Part of the Playa Dorada Complex, the resort offers plenty to do on-site (even a cable car that takes you to a spot for panoramic views of the bay) plus local area activities like shopping and horseback-riding. But if the silvery seas are calling to you the resort offers water-bound fun, too, like snorkeling and kayaking, included in the all inclusive plan.

And when you finally decide to hit the hay, grab a night cap from your suite's mini bar, dive into your luscious bed and snuggle with your honey until the sun makes another appearance in paradise
