Belizean Shores Resort

We were introduced to the concept of a "Condotel" on this trip. Definitely upgrade to the upstairs rooms, they are larger, more secure and cooler at night. Remember Belize is a developing nation so things we take for granted like power, water, phone and internet service, etc may come and go. Drawing water from the central well seemed a hinkey to me but look for "The Store" at nearby Captain Morgan's for bottled water & basic groceries. This property is distant from San Pedro downtown so getting with the water taxi program is a must. Learn that schedule or you will be sad wasting hours on the dock waiting for the next ferry. The pool and "blue hole" swim up bar is good fun, nice size. The sports bar and room service were not a great value but all of the rooms have kitchenettes so bring some of the wonderful fruit back from town. There are a few better restaurants in range if you don't want to deal with the taxi you can walk to Capt. Morgan's or bike down to the Palapa Bar or Lazy Croc BBQ, ( but check their hours first!) All of the excursions planned through Tuff-e-nuff were professionally run and worth the money. In Belize the beaches are not too great but this property has an artificial reef for kids, a deeper ocean swimming area and access to the reef via free sea kayak rental.

This resort is just what we needed - far enough from the bustle of San Pedro town to be quiet and relaxing, but close enough (via water taxi) to get there for shopping, restaurants, and immersion in local culture. We liked the fact that the complex was on the smaller side, and had a Caribbean flavor (verses staying at a mega resort). The pool is outstanding with lots of water features, a swim-up bar, and partly-submerged lounge chairs to keep you cool while sunning. We liked the fact that all rooms have a balcony or porch - a great place for catching an island breeze in the early morning or at sunset. We took the free kayaks out almost every day, tying up at one of the buoys to fish or snorkel. We bought a weekly water taxi pass, which allowed us to got to town on a whim. The taxi was punctual and the driver courteous. There are some very nice high-end restaurants close by. We didn't try the fare at Belizean Shores eatery, choosing to cook most nights in. The only negative for us was the occasional noise coming from condos attached to ours. (We aren't city dwellers, so we may be more sensitive to noise than most.) Overall, our place was very comfortable. We'd come back in a heartbeat!

My wife and I stayed here for a week. We have been to Belize 4 times. We have always stopped there for only one day and wanted to return for an entire week. We were not dissappointed, it was a great location. Here is what you need to know. This location is a classic older place, but was in perfect condition. It was like stepping back in time, but the Condominium was in perfect condition. Tips Yes, you should just buy a pass to ride the boat to town anytime you want all week for one price. No, to renting a golf cart. The water from the tap in this area is not for consumption, but can be used for everything else. You can use the water jug and go to the "well" each day and fill it, but don't bother, just order a fresh jug of pure water delivered each day to your refridgerator. It doesn't cost much and it is more convenient. My wife and I liked the ritual and would go to the well and fill up our jug, but most wouldn't want to bother. The restaurant is actually pretty good at making hamburgers, and this is from someone born and raised in the midwest, so we were surprised at how good the hamburgers tasted. We loved room service. We always ate breakfast in town at the breakfast place....just ask the front desk, they will tell you the name, it escapes me at the moment. This is not a place to stay if you think you want to drive a golf cart to town each day....it is too far, and not convenient, besides, why would you want to, when you can ride on the boat and it is fast!!!! The people running the place are extremely nice, and helpful, just ask. The same company is managing the coco beach next door. If you prefer a more modern feel condo, then you can stay at the coco, but it is a little more expensive, and we prefer the luster of the older but perfectly nice belizean shores. We also liked renting the sail boat from coco beach. Coco beach has an area free of sea grass if you want to swim in the ocean. But you probably won't want to, there isn't a swim up bar in the ocean, and you can look out at the ocean from the pool. I actuallly, like the pool here better then the newer one at coco beach, but both are nice in there own way. My wife and I visited Ambergris Caye in March 2010. We stayed at the Belizean Shores Resort and had a wonderful time. The reort is a boat ride away from the main town San Pedro, but for us it was perfect. We were looking for a quit place to relax and enjoy each other's company and Belizean Shores Resort was perfect. I also went there to enojoy the scuba diving and found a great place just down the beach from the resort, White Sands Dive Shop, great people and very knowledgeable. The scuba diving was excellant. We plan on going back soon and may even buy a place on the island we enjoyed it that much. I would recommend Ambergris Caye, Belizean Shores Resort, and White Sands Dive Shop to anyone looking for a great place to relax, enjoy the sun and water, the local food and people you won't be disappointed
