Only For the Easy Going Vactioner

It was an ok spot for an easy going vacationer. If you are high strung this place may not be for you. Rooms: The standard room was adequate but the bed was terrible. Extremely hard. The house keeping needs to tighten up. The tub had a dirt ring. The sink and mirrors still had specks of toothpaste. The rest of the room was clean. The power went out several times but only for a few minutes. The last time the thermostat was reset to heat. We didn't realize until after a restless night. FYI: through out the property including our room there are certain buildings where the plumbing system could not with stand toilet tissue. You are not allowed to flush tissue down the toilet. Our sign was on the toilet lid. We had stomach problems, so eventually they changed our trash can to one with a lid...lol. We purchased a can of $5 air freshener. Through out the property they burn incense to mask the odor. Customer Service: Everyone was helpful and polite. The staff greeted you when passing. The guy over the Lobster House was awesome. Book with him directly to save a few dollars. He is usually at the beach. One of the Bellmen is an absolute rock star in customer service. He called Amstar when we missed our tour pick up. I got the time mixed up and figured it was money lost. Unsolicited he asked who we were waiting for. We told him and he just walked off. Next thing I know Amstar appeared before us in his personal vehicle. He wisped us away to meet the bus at another pick up spot. How awesome is that. Some staff members are Bilingual but the ones you tend to interact with the most really aren't. Learn a few essential words to get by. We asked for tissue and got a towel. Food: The gist...less than appetizing. It's just different. The grade of meats, the look, the texture, the preparation, different sauces, etc. I suggest for sensitive stomachs fruit, vegetables, and pasta. I avoided meat except bacon at breakfast. Find food that works for you. Pack Charcoal tablets for travelers sickness just in case. I had stomach issues for the next 3 weeks. Bottled water required except in restaurants where filtered water is served. Pack snacks to bring with you. Onsite is VERY expensive. Buffet: It is open air. Later is always better in terms of crowds and finding seating. In the evening the lights are dim, nice music, house wine served creating ambiance. Witnessed 2 mice running around near the edge of the seating area on the first night. No problems with other pest through out my stay. Not even mosquitos, at least not at the resort. Restaurants: Reservation process was inconsistent. After the 3rd attempt we gave up. Not upgrading to VIP seemed to play a role in access to the restaurants. We were there 7 nights and only ate at the Lobster House (surcharge) and Mexican restaurant. The Mexican made us both sick. Alcohol Beverages: The drinks were sufficient but others may need to request a double shot. The bartenders at the bar and beach are less than friendly if you aren't tipping. Keep in mind, gratuity is included in the price of your stay. You should however, be prepared to pay out additional in tips through out your resort stay. IJS. There is a coconut drink that's delicious, but coconut is a natural laxative. Please drink in moderation. Beach & Pool: The beach itself is rocky but beautiful non the less. Water shoes or crocks with straps are necessary. I'm sure the further out you go the better. Beach towels are available by using a card. Return the towel to get your card or pay $20 upon check out. Smoking is allowed unfortunately. I do wish there were more clean up of ashtrays at the pool and beach. They were pretty much just left laying around through out the day. I guess they do all that in the evening. The lounge chairs are grungy. I laid out at the pool & listened to music. I did not use the pool. It was not appealing IMO. I preferred the beach at this resort. Too much stuff and debris floating around. The pool closes around 6PM. It requires 12 hours for the chemicals to work it's process in bringing it back up to par. Wi-Fi: Free in the lobby for 1 hour per device. Take a 2nd device if you need more than an hour. Paid Wi-Fi is available through out your stay or upgrade to VIP for use of the Wi-Fi lounge. After booking our excursions, the rep gave us the code to use Wi-Fi near the beach. You'll have to sit on the bench's near there building by the beach. Vendors: Vendors at the beach DID NOT harass you. I can not say the same for the other area's on the resort. You will be approached multiple times by reps asking "did you just get here?"...say no or stand there and listen to the same spill repeatedly. We were asked if we got our FREE t-shirt, etc. We didn't fall for that one, like a few others. However, they got us with excursions and spa appointments. Artisans were allowed to showcase their art on the weekends. Some jewelry vendors were too aggressive. SPA: $110 for 55 min for 2 people. It was well worth the money. The rooms however, could use a bit more ambiance. Just white walls and quiet. The two ladies were awesome and it was much needed after sleeping on the hard beds 4 nights. Have cash to tip. You can not add it too your bill. Resort: Has a tremendous amount of wildlife and birdwatching opportunities. Make your way into the interior walkways. We spent a few hours on a bench feeding and watching. Excursions: We booked 2 excursions while on site through the resort Rep named Caroline & our Amstar Rep. The Catamaran to Saona & The Tour of Santa Domingo. If you are pron to motion sickness take medicine, don't eat before pick up, but stay hydrated. The ride going is a slow party ride. This coupled with the heat can make it overwhelming. Once there my stomach settled, but the food already had me sensitive to motion. Try to negotiate the price. Both excursions were ok. Saona was not my favorite stop, but everything before that I enjoyed. In Summary: The resort was a great price and relaxing. If I suggest a stay it would not be 7 nights. Only 4-5 nights at most. It is small with loads of activities. I would have preferred to split my stay between two resorts if staying a week. I would still recommend the resort to just get away. My review is simply based on my opinion. Others may not see things in the same light. This resort deserves a chance. They have good intentions. In the end that is what matters. Enjoy your stay.

Not going back

Staff was unfriendly and rude. Waiting for drinks took up to 15 min and they were not busy.

Just Awful!

I don't know where to begin. We came for 12 days and after check in I could have cried! There were lizards in my room night 1. Birds eating from the food at the buffet night 2. My daughter caught a parasite intestinal infection day 3 that required hospital admittance and out of pocket cost! Customer service was OK but the quality was poor. Would never recommend nor go back.
