Our best vacation yet!
This was our first vacation booked through Cheap Caribbean and we went to the Barcelo in the Maya Riviera. I had some personal email issues and had to contact Cheap Caribbean when I got locked out of my old account. It was completely no-hassle to get the help I needed and the itinerary resent. When booking we upgraded to the Maya Palace Deluxe for a family suite and it was outstanding! They stocked the mini-fridge with snacks and drinks twice a day, it was clean, more amenities than I imagined and very spacious.
The resort is gorgeous! Beaches are wonderful and the pools are amazing. As soon as the glasses were empty the waitress came around to bring us more drinks, always with a smile. We joked it was like Disneyland with workers everywhere, landscaping, cleaning, serving; as soon as something was needed, a worker was doing the job, always pleasant and smiling. We were very impressed!
As Cheap Caribbean guests we had our own travel agent on-site who arranged anything that we needed and if we had problems, would have been the one to make sure our needs were taken care of. We never had any issues at all. She did help us with arranging transportation and our excursions to Tulum and Xel-Ha. Another great thing about the Barcelo is that it's one of the farthest away from the airport in the Maya Riviera so we felt like we were in paradise! It was a short drive to Tulum and Xel-ha and we were the last ones picked up in the morning and first to be dropped on way 'home'.
The restaurants were fabulous; buffets for breakfast, lunch and dinner always had an abundance and big variety of great food. We had our favorites and tried many new things. Our favorite was made-to-order omelets and tacos. Also could get steaks, chicken and sea-food cooked to order, pasta stations and more desserts than we needed. We tried several of the reservation-only restaurants and got good seating times and excellent 4-course meals with fantastic service. The ocean views from the restaurants are incredible and our favorite meals were taken on the patios overlooking the beach.
We're still shaking our heads that we got everything included for the great prices we paid. We will definitely try another all-inclusive resort through Cheap Caribbean but are already planning/saving for a return trip to the Barcelo! We were beyond thrilled by the 3-4 minutes of heavy rain so we can utilize the sunshine protection plan and get a credit towards our next trip. Our only regret about this trip is that we didn't stay longer!!!!!!

You HAVE to go here!
My family and I traveled to the Palace from April 12th -19th. The resort is gorgeous; just like in the pictures. In fact, I just finished ordering a canvas for our home of a panoramic view my husband took while we were there. (See attached pictures.)
We traveled as a family of four; my husband and I, our 17-year old son and 13-year old niece. There was something for everyone; you could do nothing or everything, depending on your preference.
I made sure we brought about $100.00 in ones and tipped often for excellent service. The housekeeping was phenomenal and the staff was constantly cleaning.
The resort is huge! We stayed in the Michocoan middle building, as it was the only non-smoking building. The only problem with it is that there wasn't any view of the ocean, pool, etc. and it was probably a ten-minute walk to the pool, ocean, restaurants, etc. We as a family don't mind walking and in fact enjoyed it after all the rich food, but would have preferred a room with a view. This building would not be advisable for travelers with limited mobility.
In regards to the food, you will not be hungry. My husband and son can be particular eaters and there was always something they enjoyed. In fact, each restaurant would prepare my son's food plain without hesitation and it was excellent. The breakfast and lunch buffets had an outstanding selection of fresh fruits, vegetables, blended juices made to order, an egg/omlet station, Mexican fare, fish, pizza, burgers, nachos, ice cream, etc...
The afternoon we checked in, we went directly to the concierge to make our dinner reservations. We were dismayed to find out that we couldn't get a reservation that evening (it was 5:00) because reservations stopped at 4:00 so we ate at the buffet that evening which was fine as we were tired from traveling and it was very, very good. Unfortunately, out of the next six nights of our vacation, 4 of our dinner reservations were at 9:30 PM which really is a bit late for kids but we just tried to eat a late lunch and have snacks around 5:00 and that worked well. The other two nights we were able to reserve for 7:30 which was perfect.
Our favorite restaurants, to the delight and suprise of my husband and son, were the Brazilian and French restaurants. The food and service was superb; can't recommend them highly enough. We were disappointed with the seafood and Italian restaurants and didn't enjoy the Japanese restaurant in the Plaza at all. That was actually the lunch time grill buffet that they closed half of, hung a few Asian umbrellas from the celing, changed out tablecloths, piped in some music and called it a Japanese restaurant. That was a joke. We found out after making our reservations, from another guest, that there are actually TWO Japanese restaurants; the actual Japanese Tappanaki restaurant was in one of the other resorts. It would have been nice if the concierge had told us that, because we would have selected that one instead and I'm guessing that would have been a more enjoyable meal and experience. Also, don't waste your time at the steak house that had more seafood options than steak. In fact, no Porterhouse, no Rib-Eye; low-end steaks but if you wanted Rib-Eye, you could get one grilled to order at the buffet. Go figure?
Anpther issue we had was with the Concierge; the first woman we interacted with acted as though we were bothering her and in fact seemed quite annoyed that we wanted to make dinner reservations, which by the way is the ONLY way to get dinner reservations. A resort of that size should really have more than one Concierge on duty at a time. We needed the services of the Concierge three times during our visit and had to wait, in total, more than 2 hours.
The only other complaint we had, which we've had in other resorts, is the reserving of beach/pool lounge chairs that were often reserved by 7:00 AM, even though signs were posted that this was not allowed. People actually reserved them and didn't use them all day. What we ended up doing, if we couldn't get chairs, we took loungers that had pool towels on them but no personal items.
Other than that, take your family, stay at the Palace, bring plenty of sunscreen and ENJOY!

Good Value and Beautiful
The beaches and pools are very nice and all inclusive is the way to go. You will grow a bit weary of the buffets, but they are ok and if you work you can find variety. We had no problem getting reservations for Caribe, Rodizo, and Braissere (spelling?) for dinner. We rented jet-ski, rode Segways, and ATVs on the property (all very fun), but did not leave for other tours offered through Mt. Olympus -- they were attractive, but we wanted to relax.
Rooms were nice, TV did not work - called and got no response, but I just read books instead....nice to be off of the "grid" a bit.

Beautiful Vacation Spot
Barcelo Maya Palace Deluxe is a wonderful place to visit. It was possible to go for long walks every day and spend time relaxing. They also offer a lot of activities like Spanish lessons, water aerobics, cooking lessons, etc. I found the other guests and staff to be really nice. Learn a little Spanish before you go - it makes it more fun. Spend time trying to get to know the people working there.

Do any of the 4 Barcelo hotels in the complex have a party/buffet on the beach night?3 answers
10 months ago
Kika
Many resorts have parties/buffets on the beach for guests. These resorts do not list a weekly beach party, but they may do them for special occasions and for theme nights.
KristinCC
Didn't see anything like that offered, but it's a great idea. It seemed like the beach got pretty empty at night...everyone went inside for dinner at either the buffet or the restaurants and then nobody went outside again. Most of the entertainment was indoors at night, either eating and drinking at one of the many bars or enjoying the show or dancing. There were very few people outside in the pools or on the beach at night.
lovetoswim
Not sure. Phone them and you can find out
BlueFoot
I do not believe they do....We stayed for a week and there was none.

Yes the theater is amazing the whole family will love it its at 930 eveynight and is extremly entertaining every night the feature something different
jackson730
The resort does offer day and nighttime entertainment programs for of all ages.
MariaCC
There are shows every evening in the airconditioned theater. Everything from dance, singing, impersonators, circus and many others.
dolphingirls
You bet. Many activities and places for family and for kids.
BlueFoot
yes - but we only stayed a little while for the shows - we were tired from being busy all day and the shows wre not the greatest - some were bilingual but mostly in spanish - go figure we were in mexiico
fdoyle20
Yes, there is family friendly entertainment. They have an international dance and singing show almost every night at the resort. They were very good. Some of their outfits were very racy, but that is the traditional garb from thos nationalities they were representing.
astricne
The resort, as beautiful and perfect in every other aspect, does lack in this department. The mini disco is every other day at the theater and the rest, at the kiddie club, but the staff is not much into it and my daughter, who usually really wants to participate, opted out each time.
aniak
Barcelo Maya is very family friendly. I saw a kid-friendly movie being shown one night in the Colonial and on another night there was an activity for kids in the evening - they were dancing on stage and playing a game. Again I think that was in the Colonial, but it was easy to get there from the Palace.

what activities are there for teenagers?1 answer
Is the disco open to teenagers under 18? do they have an animation group that encourages teenagers to participate in group activities? Is there a club for teenagers?
edmund924
This resort does not appear to have a teen club. The resort does offer day and nighttime entertainment programs for of all ages in addition to many sports and other activities. According to one of our customers who stayed here, the theater is amazing and the whole family will love it as everynight is extremly entertaining and features something different.
MariaCC
We had 2 teens in our group that LOVED it. There are nightly activities for them and there is so much to do during the day they will not be bored at all! Just keep in mind drinking age is 18 so if your teen is not used to that then be sure to talk to them before...we saw LOTS of teens that had really had WAY too much to drink especially at the Jaguar Club!!
The Jaguar club is 18+ but the teen club is 13-17. Some of the things that our kids did at the club at night was retro night, kareoke night, ping pong party, there were tons of things, mexican cooking night, dance party, pj and "new movie" night, etc

According to several recent reviews on Trip Advisor, the beach is beautiful at Barcelo Maya Palace Deluxe.
MariaCC
Yes, the beach at the Palace is rather rocky, but very beautiful and if you are willing to walk for a few minutes, you can also enjoy the soft sand beach at the next resort. You get the best of both!
aniak
TONS!!! Bring water shoes!!! It makes it really nice to snorkle and see all the fish around them though. Just walk with caution.

There are alot of rocks but it's not terrible. They seem to be grouped together with plenty of nice sand between the groupings

Do guests of the Barcelo Maya Palace Deluxe receive meal vouchers?2 answers
Hello,
I have heard that guests staying in Barcelo Maya Tropical and Barcelo Maya Caribe receive meal vouchers for the specialty restaurants. I was wondering if this is true for guests staying at the Maya Palace as well?

For guests staying at the Barcelo Maya Palace Deluxe for every night of your stay you are entitled to a dinner in one of the specialty restaurants, including the specialty restaurants of the four other hotels of the complex subject to availability. Kyoto Restaurant is NOT included.

No, the Maya Palace Deluxe is all-inclusive. We were given bracelets to wear that got us into everything. We ate at specialty restaurants all but one night, with ease.

The Junior Suite Deluxe room category willl accomodate 5 adults in two double beds and a sofa bed. If you would like to add your daughter to the reservation you will need to call an agent in Existing Reservations who will price that change out for you.
ccsusan1
I think it would be allowed, but I wouldn't recommend. With the all inclusive pricing, I found little/no difference as our family of 5 just went and had 2 rooms (mom and twin 13 year old daughters in one room, dad (me) and 15 year old son in other room)

Reservations can be made in the morning daily.

We went the first day and made reservations for each night of our trip. We were told that one of the restaurants only had a late slot but we asked for a different restaurant and got the time we wanted, did the other restaurant a different day. Another restaurant only opened later but we slept in that day, spent the day in the pool so had lunch at 3:00 and later dinner time was perfect!

Barcelo Palace Deluxe: Redefining the Art of Relaxation
The stress starts to melt away the minute you enter Barcelo Palace Deluxe. Surrounded by colonial-style architecture and accented with lush tropical landscaping overlooking 1.2 mi of white sand, blue-green waters and a massive coral reef, Barcelo Maya Palace Deluxe offers a daily, all inclusive crash-course in the art of chillaxin'.
If you're the mingling sort, you and your crew can make your way to one of the sprawling pools at Barcelo Maya Palace Deluxe. Or, if the kids are along for the ride, warm up with a game on the giant chess set before you indulge in one of the two water parks within the resort grounds. Involve the family in one of the daily pool activities, relax in a Jacuzzi next to a natural rock waterfall, or just claim your half-submerged padded lounge chair poolside and unwind in style, drink in hand with the sun on your face. Opt for the beaches to try your hand at windsurfing or to snorkel near the reef and glimpse outrageous natural beauty.
If you and your sweetheart long to relax, but the kids are hoping to reenact a pirate flick, don't hesitate to send them to the Kid's Club at Barcelo Maya Palace Deluxe, where miniature Blackbeards compete in sandcastle building competitions, watch movies, take dance classes and more. If you want to sneak off for a quiet lunch for two, shoulder no guilt for the munchkins' grumbling bellies. The Kid's Club also sports its own child-sized buffet, where kids enjoy their favorites, from mini-burgers and chicken nuggets to spaghetti and other pint-sized treats.
Post-sundown, slip on your best duds and electric slide your way to Jaguar's Disco, or take a more casual approach to the evening by visiting Carey Lobby Bar, where there's no need to worry about "last call" since Carey's never closes. After you've enjoyed all you can possibly enjoy in a single day, head back to your luxurious Junior Deluxe Suite for sweet dreams; this all-suite resort has a whole lot more to offer tomorrow!
