Good For the Money
Overall, the trip was great. We were able to upgrade from a standard room to an ocean view with little trouble. The check in process was a bit longer than expected, but once we got to our room we found that it was well worth the wait! I would definitely recommend having a room upgrade once you arrive on site. We heard a few complaints about some of the other rooms, but the Elite Club Building 6 was beautiful! We walked out onto our balcony every morning to a wonderful view of the white beach and clear water or a wedding taking place right in front of us!
The language barrier was a little difficult at times, but the staff was so helpful and friendly and made the barrier a bit easier to get past.
Also, if you want dinner reservations, make sure to make them early enough! We had the opportunity to dine at 3 of the resturaunts on site as well as the buffet. Each of the dining locations were lovely and had plent to choose from.
All in all, Barcelo was a great place for what we spent. We would defintiely reccommend staying here!
It was a very poor vacation. The only two things made it tolerable 1) We had two of our friends families. So we had good company, 2) I lost weight. Now, why did I lose weight on all inclusive resort??? You guessed it. The food was terrible. I lived on fruit and coffee. Nothing tested good enough to eat, nothing. Not even a simple fried eggs in the morning. There were flies all over the food. The restaurants were parley air conditioned. The open buffets were really open. We were melting from the heat. The rooms were not half bad but good luck trying to tell the housekeeper you need extra towels. And speaking of towels. When you check in they give a card for each person in your part. You use it to get a beach towel….really? Do they expect their guests to steal old, worn out towels. And they never had enough. Also, my husband needed to make a few phone calls to check on his ongoing project. They sold him a phone card that will decrease the minute rate from $4/$5 a minute to $1.99. My husband used several times. The day before we are getting ready to leave he went to pay the phone bill. They charged us close to $500, why? Because the phone card they sold us expired, yet they opened the phone lines without warning. My husband had a huge fight with them to bring it down the charges to $1.99 a minute. I believe they were counting on us requesting our phone bill while we were checking out and needed to make it to the airport on time. Thank God we did not. The front desk people they thing they are the best thing on earth. Their extremely arrogant. Also, if they offer you a tour to go outside the resort for sugar cane plantation/horseback riding/beach… do not go. It is not worth the money.
Not a good value for the money. Had two different rooms. The first was not the type of room we reserved. Waited two days for a room change. The second room was better, but neither room had functioning A/C. Condensation was EVERYWHERE. Everything we brought home was soaked.
The food was good, but the restaurants are small, so reservations are hard to get. If you don't reserve bt 7:00 AM, you will probably wind up at the buffett........
A rudimentary knowledge of Spanish is extremely helpful. The vast majority of the staff is non-English speaking, and those few who do speak English have a very limited vocabulary.
All in all, I would not return the this resort.

Awesome Vaca
Barcelo was awesome. The room was always cold, the service was awesome, there were a number of bars on site. Everywhere you went there was someone ready to help. Def worth the money and will def return.
