Nice place to relax on beach...that's about it.
You get what you pay for with this place. The beach is very big and lots chairs to lay out in sun or shade everyday. The service and food and everything else is pretty bad. I have been to a lot of all inclusive places across the caribbean, and this place is by far below the average. The food is pretty bad...so if you are expecting great food, go somewhere else. It actually helped me stay on my diet so i am not complaining. You pretty much have to eat at the pasta station every night because everything is over cooked. DO NOT go to the al la carte restaurants. You will wait one hour before they take your order because there is only one waiter working, and then you will find out they are out of half the menu, then you will wait another hour for the terrible food. So stick with buffet, don't eat a lot because it will make you sick, and just lay on beach. Their liqour is awful so you have to buy some at the duty free and all their mixers are all sugar so good luck. If you are staying here, request the 4000 building, closest to beach, and newest building. 100 times better than the old rooms but still not great. Good luck checking in and out, because you will be in a line for 1 hour minimum, and if you ask for anything they will say OK and then it will never happen. Called reception several times for various stuff to never receive. So if you are looking for a beach and water then go here, otherwise pay more for elsewhere.

great!
Our experience was excellent! We felt safe, comfortable and could have stayed for weeks! The children's activities included a "show" that my kids went to each night and participated in on stage. The kids loved the pools, beach, food, capturing lizards (well, trying) and making friends. I would give 5 Palms, but the staff at the front desk were less than friendly or helpful. I loved that they offer activities throughout the day such as exercise classes, games and dancing lessons. The staff for these events were very kind, helpful and fun. There were people on the beach selling stuff, who do not work for the resort, so you can buy stuff, if you want or say no and then they do not bother you. This resort has everything you want and need and is enjoyed by people from DR as well as people from around the globe!
WE had a great time. I have not been to Barcella Capella for three years and would definately go back to the resort.
Only negative of the whole trip==Do not use any credit cards as my identity was stolen and and someone used my card twice this morning to buy gas and groceries. Thanks to CHASE it has been taken care of.
The sun and sand along with the sparkling blue water were beautiful. Will return in February.

Worth the value
The oceanview, landscaping there is awesome. You can see schools of fishes just several yards away from the shore. The beach is a very good place for seashell collecting. Food needs some more variety. You need to bring mosquito repellent. That's for sure.

If I get an all inclusive at Barcelo hotel but my flight doesn't get in to San.Domingo International Airport until around 8 at night but check in is at 3 pm...is that going to be a problem?

All resorts are sent the flight itineraries so they are aware as to when to expect each guest.
MariaCC
The front desk was registering people until late at night. I would recommend that you have Cheap Carribean or call the resort to put a note attachment that you will be coming in late just to be sure.
TwoBeers
You should call the resort and let them know that you will be checking in later than 3 pm..

The beach is very nice and clean. There are plenty of sun bathing chairs as well. If you are into excursions, there are plenty of vendors on property as well.

How is the snorkeling off the beach?1 answer
We love snorkeling right off the beach. How is it here? There appear to be ropes in the water. Is it possible to swim past them, or around them outside the resort area?

Massachusetts, USA
The life guards on the beach will typically restrict you to snorkeling within the roped areas for safety reasons. If you would like to venture into deeper water you might want to consider purchasing an excursion which includes snorkeling and they will generally take you by boat out to areas offering spectacular snorkeling opportunities.

Is there sailing on site?1 answer
I have read several different websites that say different things. Some say there is sailing on site, some say no, others say sailing is nearby.

eb
The resort does not offer sailing on site, however there is sailing offered at establishments nearby for an additional cost. The resort does offer kayaks as one of the all inclusive amenities.

Barcelo Capella Beach: The Exclusive All Inclusive
First, humans invented working for a living. Pretty soon thereafter, vacations were invented, and the island getaway was born. At the all inclusive Capella Beach Resort, peacefully planted on the beaches of Villa del Mar, you'll discover the tropical escape you've been waiting for. As you gaze out over the calm, blue-green Caribbean waters from the sweet, marshmallow-white sands, you'll understand why vacationers and explorers alike covet the Dominican Republic's southern tip.
Barcello Capella Beach offers the active-lifestyle crowd a series of options. The fin-and-flipper folks will discover that the coral reefs are home to a limitless variety of sea life, brain coral and caves. But, resting beneath the aquamarine surface of the sea, ancient shipwrecks lure hardcore wreck divers to discover their secrets. Snorkelers can keep it shallow, exploring as they float above it all. For the salt-water sportsman, charter boats for deep-sea fishing are waiting for you to catch a trophy or two. If doing nothing is your idea of heaven, Capella Beach Resort offers two free-form pools, both with complimentary swim-up bars for frosty concoctions.
Land activists and beach lovers alike can find their version of paradise in the form of a giant chess set, a basketball court and a mini golf course, where couples and families can see who has the better putter. Grab a towel and lounger for some serious beach-bound sunbathing, or seriously pamper yourself at the onsite Quality of Life Centre Spa, where you'll find an array of services, from mud therapies to foot reflexology.
Grab a bite of international fare at El Pescador, right on the beach. Or get your good duds on and step into Chez Fontaine for a gourmet meal of exquisite French cuisine. To experience the authentic Dominican Republic, sample traditional regional flavors at El Bohio Dominicano before disappearing into the night for some disco on the sand.
