bummer.........but some good things
The last week of March into April my good friend of 30 years and I stayed here for a very special vacation which turned out not to be.....especially for the price! Having stayed on two other resorts in Riviera Maya and being an experienced traveler I do find myself qualified to make a few complaints...........first, I did not expect to be tortured, and I do mean tortured by a relentless time-share pitch. I had no idea that the place had just been sold to Hardrock Cafe and if I did before booking I would have made another selection.......I had been subjected to this ordeal at another place, but I was using the time-share of a friend and had gotten a great deal so it wasn't so bad.......here I paid top-dollar and so was confused and disappointed by the pitch, which could not be avoided since it was administered by the same person that sets up your use of the $1,500 resort credit! Later that same day I was phoned in my room and told I needed to report to another area to arrange our return airport transportation. I was sales-pitched again. I stormed off and had to take a tranquilizer to survive the rest of the day! The last night of our trip (we stayed a whole week) we decided to try the high-end Mexican restaurant on the Aventura Cove Palace side. We got all dressed up (my friend even bought a new dress for the occasion) only to be told by our gracious and embarrassed waiter that they were only serving a buffet that night one of which selections was frijoles with cut up hotdogs!!!
Flights were good,as was private transportation by Olympus tours
Check in at spa palace seemed to go well, but room wouldn't be ready for 15 to30 minutes. Two hours later room still wasn't ready. At this point the other four couples in our group were in their rooms, some hadarrived after us. During the wait time we waited to make spa reservations, but were told they couldn't be confirmed because we didn't have room yet. Very frustrating start.
That evening,we were turned away from Italian restaurant, they could only seat us 4,2,2,2. Opted for gourmet Mexican on spa side. It was three hours before our main courses arrived, and all were cold.
Pros:rooms are pleasant. Grounds are beautiful. spa treatments were great
Cons;food average, evening activities all on cove side, they are selling, even though they are quick to say, not time share. Chairs by pool are saved early in am
We stayed at the Aventura Spa Palace from Feb 1-8. My husband and I have traveled to the Caribbean quite a bit and usually stay in all-inclusives. The Aventura Spa Palace exceeded our expectations. We chose this resort because we had stayed at the Vallarta Pallace previously and had an incredible time there. This time, we received a $1,500 resort credit included with our package. I kept fearing that there would be some strings attached....like a mandatory timeshare presentation. Not the case....we were offered the presentation, but they would have given us an additional incentive to do that. When we declined, there was nothing else said about it. For the credit that came with our package, I had two spa treatments, my husband had one spa visit and played golf twice, and we both did the Swimming with the Dolphins tour. We also got two wine upgrades.
For us, this was the perfect time to be there, as the resort was nowhere near full. We could hang with others at the pool, or find a remote place to spend time alone. We played tennis three times, but I would advise to bring your own racquets and balls if you are doing this, as there is no tennis pro. Courts are in good condition, though.
Food was very good for an all-inclusive, which is hard to find. They serve premium liqours. The service was wonderful. I heard concerns about them rebranding to the Hard Rock (which doesn't appeal to me), but right now, the place is still amazing!! I highly recommend it!!

resort in transition
Aventura Spa Palace is a beautiful facility, but has been recently purchased by Hard Rock Cafe Resorts, and is clearly and admittedly in transition. Expecting a tranquil haven, we were instead subjected to 80's rock, EVERYWHERE that we went (except in the spa itself) I never thought I'd be in a tropical setting listening to Judas Priest and Ozzy Ozbourne. They were admittedly understaffed as well as going through software transitions, etc, which slowed down all services. Some of the services were limited(sweat lodge), and some of the areas were clearly in need of upkeep(Zen Garden).
All told, we had a great time, it just wasn't what we expected. Part of our package included a "resort credit", which allowed us to enjoy spa treatments, a deluxe lobster and champagne dinner, a photo session, and a room upgrade, essentially at no additional cost! Clearly the resort credit is to "compensate" for the transitional time period that they are going through.
I would certainly recommend this resort, even as it is currently operating. Just expect to wait for anything you are scheduling (ridiculously slow computers), don't expect much from the "concierge service" or room service, and hope that you enjoy 80's hair band music. Otherwise, you can find a quiet spot on the beach at one of the far ends of the resort, that is the only place you won't hear Iron Maiden.

I would recommend the Aventura Spa Palace. It will be more busy in March (we were just there in February), but it is an amazing experience....if you purchase the package with the $1,500 resort credit, you can use that on a couple of cool excursions like swimming with the dolphins, Talum, and a few other tours. You can also get spa treatments and play golf with that credit. The weather was amazing and the resort was just beautiful. I've stayed at many all-inclusives and have to say that is the best yet!

A crown jewel of the Mayan Riviera, Aventura Spa Palace is a kingdom of beauty that treats you like royalty. For adults-only, this all inclusive resort features sparkling streams winding beneath rustic bridges and through vibrant vegetation and native flowers.
The epicenter of relaxation is a world-class spa. Specializing in personalized treatments, this spa offers couples' massage rooms, Master-Spa Suites with jetted tubs, hydro reflexology and Swiss showers. You can schedule a dry sauna with eucalyptus inhalation, or lounge in an herbal steam room, then slide into one of the giant whirlpools and rehydrate with water, juice or fruit.
While the sea is one of the major highlights of the Riviera Maya, Aventura Spa Palace seduces with an enticing array of pools, 660 ft of white sand beach and an array of musicians and performers, who entertain daily poolside.
Knowing that not all spa-lovers come in pairs, this Riviera Maya resort offers a yoga hut, meditation pond and a labyrinth. Adrenaline junkies love the resort's rock-climbing tower. You can submerge yourself beneath the surf to explore one of the world's great coral reefs, or investigate the enchanting waters of Akumal or Xpu-Ha Palace. Two lighted tennis courts offer the chance to best your partner, day or night.
Don't miss an all inclusive, top-shelf drink at one of the resort's two swim-up bars before heading out to explore the remnants of a rich and mysterious Mayan history at Chichen, Itza, Tulum and Coba. Just be sure you get back before dinner, because you'll never forgive yourself for missing the gourmet stylings of La Hacienda's authentic Mexican cuisine.
