Loved it

The Arenal Lodge is just that, a beautiful lodge, but don't expect a brand new all-inclusive style resort. We stayed in a Jr. Suite and it was nice to have the air-conditioning as it's not so much hot there but it does get humid (as it's in a rainforest and all) and the air conditioning helps dry the room out a bit. Our bed comfort was adequate but could have been better. The food was decent but not fantastic. Breakfast was our favorite and was included in our booking price. It was nice to have the restaurant available though after a day of hiking rather than to have to run into town to eat. The property is amazing. We did a good amount of hiking on this trip and found that the Arenal Lodge's property actually had the best of the hikes we did (we also hiked around Arenal volcano, hiked to a few waterfalls, and hiked the cloud forest in Monteverde). The trail behind the lodge takes you into the rainforest and the trail at the front takes you to a great lookout location. We saw toucans, a variety of hummingbirds, and howler monkeys (including a baby monkey) all from the property. We didn't see much on the other hikes aside from leaf cutter ants. The pool is nice and I only knocked the "palms" down a notch as a couple of times the hot tubs needed cleaned with nets (and to have the occasional frog removed). The staff was incredibly friendly and eager to please. They responded to all requests we had with speed and attentiveness. I highly recommend this place and plan on returning sooner than later.

Paradise on the hill

We went there to celebrate my girlfriend's 33rd birthday and had an amazing time. We enjoyed our stay so much that we talked about having our wedding at the lodge. The view from our suite was absolutely amazing. We

beutiful place with amazing frounds and views

could not have been happier. the place is amazing and customer service is wonderful. will stay here again. the road to the hotel after you pass the guard is long, a little rough and scary in the dark with the hairpin turns. Just know this and your stay will be awesome... I suppose this drive is part of what makes it so amazing!!

enjoyed our stay very much

The Arenal Lodge has many charms - it is older and it was probably very beautiful in it's prime day. Everything just needs a good paint/repair job. Everyone at the Lodge couldn't have been nicer - we were well taken care of. They all had good suggestions and were very helpful. We enjoyed their company very much. They had the Jacamar tour company on site - which was also very helpful for visits off site. Thank you.

What's to Love

The Arenal Lodge staff is friendly, and the complimentary rainforest nature walking tour is a great way to take advantage of the incredible environment.

What We'd Change

It is a bit of a trek over some bumpy hills to get there, but that's the only way to really get close to nature.

Why You Should Go

The lodge is nice and secluded, but still so close to the attractions in the area. And you just can't beat the amazing view of the rainforest, lake and the awesome Arenal Volcano!

Hotel Description

Arenal Lodge: Share a Rainforest Adventure

When there's been just way too much concrete in your life, get back in touch with nature and enjoy a stay at Arenal Lodge located on 2,000 acres of tropical rainforest in the shadow of the famous Arenal Volcano. The beautiful rainforest houses hundreds of the exotic birds, butterflies, tropical flowers and trees of Costa Rica. Situated on a hill, Arenal Lodge offers some of the best panoramic views available of the towering Arenal Volcano. It's a perfect spot for a private getaway.

The cool mountain climate is perfect for the year-round recreational activities that include horseback riding, a complimentary guided rainforest nature walking tour and access to the lodge's breathtaking butterfly garden. Guests can relax in the outdoor infinite edge swimming pool or in one of the three outdoor Jacuzzis. How many times will you get a chance to swim in a pool while enjoying a view of a volcano? There are rainforest trails you can explore on your own where you can watch a variety of bird species flying overhead. Look out for Stephania, one of the local wild blue and gold Macaws that lets you feed her fresh fruit and sunflower seeds. Just don't forget your comfy shoes! And relaxing indoors is easy with a game of billiards at the Lodge's pool table.

Dining is both easy and delicious at the La Fortuna restaurant located on the property. The local and international cuisine is organic and locally produced when possible and served by a friendly waitstaff. Vegetarian or gluten-free eaters can eat to their hearts' content as the chef is happy to accommodate special dietary requests. The restaurant and its incredible view of the Arenal Volcano and beautiful lake attracts locals, too. While you're there, try out the bar's specialty drinks and take in the atmosphere.

Don't forget to venture out and take advantage of the hot springs heated by the volcanic activity. Or take a tour of La Fortuna, the town about 4 miles from the volcano with places to see and shops to browse through. Looking for more adventure? Ask the staff about organizing a canyoneering or kayaking trip!

This hotel is NOT All-Inclusive, but does include a daily complimentary American breakfast. Additional food and drink must be purchased separately.
