Description

Anguilla is located in the Caribbean Sea, the most northerly island in the Leeward Island chain. Nearest neigbour to the south is St. Martin/Sint Maarten. Anguilla is probably the best kept secret in the Caribbean. There are no fewer than 33 glorious beaches (all powder white-sand, beautiful and more often than not, deserted) with some of the most luxurious resorts and hotels. If it is a quiet beach time you are seeking Anguilla is the place for you. The Island is discovered by many visitors and celebrities as a haven of tranquillity. However you can enjoy the best of both worlds as a 20 minute ferry ride connects you with cosmopolitan St. Martin with its designer boutiques and French creole nouvelle cuisine. While in Anguilla, enjoy some of the most beautiful beaches in the world, Shoal Bay, Meads Bay and Rendezvous Bay or enjoy some of our 'adventure' beaches like Long Bay and Little Bay. Anguilla has a good selection of excellent restaurants and small bars with music and beach side dancing. Most dining out is casual and there is not a restaurant that demands a jacket and tie, although you may wear one if you wish. If your heart is set on getting away from it all and experiencing a true island escape, Anguilla, with its friendly people and natural attractions, is a perfect choice. Anguilla is simply a beach lover's paradise...sunbathing, walking on the beaches, swimming, reading and lots of relaxation.

Local Information

The local currency is the Eastern Caribbean Dollar. Both US and Eastern Caribbean dollars are accepted. Anguilla is a British Dependent Territory so the official language of the island is English. Electricity is normally 110 volts AC. As far as driving, a license is required and you must drive on the left of the roads. Pedestrians should remember to carefully look both ways before crossing streets.

Airport Information

To get to Anguilla you would fly into Wallblake Airport (AXA) which is serviced by American Eagle, WINAIR & LIAT. Local Air Charter Services as Tyden Air, Air Anguilla & Trans Anguilla also fly to the island. Wallblake Airport is located in The Valley which is the capital of Anguilla. Nearest International Gateways are San Juan & Antigua (1 hr. flight) as well as St. Martin, (7 minute flight). You also have the option of flying into St. Martin/St. Maarten and taking the ferry from Marigot Bay, St. Martin to Blowing Point, Anguilla. It is a 20 minute crossing with the ferries leaving every half hour. Please be advised that many destinations charge a departure fee. Generally, most airlines include this fee in the cost of your airline ticket. We recommend you contact the airline directly to review the details with the carrier.

Entry Requirements

Effective December 31, 2006, the U.S. Department of State and Homeland Security requires all travelers to and from the Americas, the Caribbean, and Bermuda to have a passport or other accepted document that establishes the bearer's identity and nationality. This information should be used only as a guideline and non-U.S. citizens should contact the airline they are traveling on, or their local consulate regarding the specific entry requirements that apply to their nationality.
