What a wonderful Island
Barbados was great - even the 2 days it rained did not ruin our trip as we went on an excursion the one day and than shopping in Bridgetown the other. The Almond Casurarina had some of the best food that we have had in the Carribean. We usually take 2 trips a year and I don't know if I have have been anywhere where the food or beach was any better. We would love to go back again someday but there are yet some other places we have not yet been.
I read some of the reviews before we went and some made me unsure of what awaited us but I guess some people are never going to be happy no matter what. I feel really lucky that we are able to go to these beautiful Islands and sit on such beautiful beaches and have such a great variety of food to eat - I don't think I could ask for much more.

Terrible experience
First off we arrive to the hotel at 9:30 p.m. and go to are room to find it filthy. Sheets were dirty, there were no pillow covers on the pillows and a dirty wet towel was on the floor. Went to management to have the room cleaned, which was not done till 6:00 a.m. the following morning, needless to say we were not able to get any rest till the following morning and had to sleep most of the next day away. The staff there was very rude (except a few) they never made you feel welcomed and if you asked for help it seemed as if you were bothering them. The main pool by the ocean closes at 6:00 p.m. so if you like night swimming forget it. Food is impossible to find after 10:00 p.m. there is one bar in the back of the hotel nowhere near the beach that is open till 2:00 a.m. Restaurants will not allow you to get any food unless you are in formal attire, so if you are swimming on the beach and want to run into grab a quick bite you have to go to your room and change. If you are a night owl plan ahead and stock you room full of food that won't go bad without a fridge cause your room does not have one. There were two good things about Barbados, the people of the island were very friendly and the beaches were gorgeous. Unfortunately we will not be coming back to the island of Barbados because of the hotel. Was only there five nights and it was way to long, I was so shocked that I would be excited to leave Barbados.
Arrived at the resort to a delicious Rum Punch and check in was easy.
Stayed in Block 1, which is the tower facing the Caribbean Sea. We were on the 5th floor and had a great view of the sea. Room was very comfortable and clean. Loved the bed. Hair drying broke at one point during the stay and guest services was very quick to fix it and even made a call to confirm that I was satisfied.
Food was very good. Breakfast at the Waves Restaurant every morning was a buffet and the omelets are the best.
Lunch was served at the restaurants or you could do the beach BBQ. All Good.
Dinner reservations are needed for the Waves and Dover Grill restaurants. These are a la carte and the menu consisted of usually 2 fish dishes, 1 meat such as chicken, lamb, pork and a vegetarian meal. Also for an additional price you could get Lobster or Steak. Of course there was also the appetizers and desserts that were yummy. Enid's restaurant does not require a reservation and serve more of a Barbados cuisine.
We tried the Italian Restaurant - La Samarrita at the Almond Village sister hotel one evening. That was amazing and well worth the 45 minute shuttle drive that the Almond Hotels provide. You must book this right away as it is very hard to get into this restaurant.
They also had a Beach BBQ night and a Caribbean Buffet night. The food was excellent both nights.
All the bar tenders, waitress's and waiters were great. Very cheerful, friendly and always helpful.
The pool was well maintained as was the beach and grounds of the resort. My only complaint would be the pool loungers. They need more and the ones they have are in need of replacement. People did arrive early in the morning to save chairs and with few chairs to go around it was difficult to get one. I did talk to Melissa in Guest Services and was told they are working on this. By the way, Melissa is great and if you have any problems search her out and it will be corrected right away.
Water Sports is limited due to the waves and current in the sea but we did go out on a Hobie Cat one day and it was great. You can always go to the sister hotels and use their equipment too. I think the Almond Village has the most to offer with regards to water sports. The sea and sand is beautiful. You won't want to leave.
Evening entertainment was OK but it would have been nice to have something every night as opposed to sometimes. St. Lawrence Gap is not too far away if entertainment is what you're looking for.
The hotel will arrange island tours for you. We went on the Rum/Island History tour and the Sea Safari which is on a catamaran that takes you to swim with the turtles and snorkel on ship wrecks. Both were great and would definitely do again.
We also went to Oistin's Fish Fry on the Friday evening which was very interesting and the food was really good.
I think staying at the Casuarina as opposed to the other Almond resorts you are much closer to all the extra activities that you might want to do. Such as Shopping in the capital city - Bridgetown, Catamaran trips, Oistin's Fish Fry, St. Lawrence Gap and many of the island tour destinations.
All in all this was a wonderful trip and our stay at the Almond Casuarina was great and we would definitely stay here again without any hesitation. The people of Barbados are the friendliest.

The tastefully furnished rooms, all with original art work, are spacious, air-conditioned and have a ceiling fan. All are equipped with bathroom, balcony/terrace, in room safe, king-size or twin beds (according to request), satellite color TV, hairdryers, tea & coffee making facilities, and iron & board. Room service is available for lunch and dinner only.
We liked how there was a different vibe at each pool. The swim-up bar keeps the main pool lively, and you can retreat to the quieter pool to chill out.
What We'd Change
Since this is a nicer place, the dress code is a little more specific than some other resorts. But getting out of the beach clothes makes dinner a little more special.
Why You Should Go
Almond Casuarina is beach fun for both couples and families. The separate children's pool makes families feel welcome, but keeps kids from taking over the main pool!

Casual Elegance in a Natural Setting at Almond Casuarina Beach Resort
Want a Caribbean vacation that offers something different? Not just soft breezes, white sand and warm water, but maybe high tea? If you like the idea of blending the casual with the elegant, then Almond Casuarina Beach Resort hits the spot, right down to that afternoon cuppa tea.
Unplug and unwind at Almond Casuarina Beach Resort in one of three freshwater pools. As the sun warms your skin, the swim-up bar's daiquiris are the perfect frosty touch. When you're ready for a change, make your way to Dover Beach, where the sands are as white as the cliffs they're named after. Stretch out in the resort's complimentary lounges for a snooze. Just be sure to wake up in time for a cuppa! At Waves, the main restaurant at Almond Casuarina, high tea is served daily. Take your pick of 15 flavorful varieties and a smashingly delicious pastry.
For dinner, try classic Caribbean food at Endi's, or take in the jaw-dropping ocean view at Dover Grill, while dining on fresh seafood. Then kick back with a cocktail at the piano bar. If you want more choices, you can always hop on the free shuttle to check out the restaurants at nearby Almond Beach Club & Spa and Almond Beach Village.
If you're traveling with kids, Almond Casuarina has programs for children from infants to teenagers, including a nursery for babies and a mini club for toddlers. The other children's clubs keep kids busy with educational activities, playgrounds and kiddie pools, while teens chill in the teen center.
To experience ultimate relaxation, book an appointment at PraanaSpa. Soaking in the pool is refreshing, but a little hydrotherapy and sauna action is downright rejuvenating. Clear your mind with Thalassotherapy, algae and-seaweed bath. After all, what better place to explore the healing power of nature than among the exuberant foliage of an island paradise? In this unique, natural setting, singles, couples and families enjoy a peaceful retreat with the creature comforts of apartment-style rooms; we love the Family Suite with a Garden View.
