Grand Oasis was very nice - we did get adjoining rooms in building 5 - no complaints. Rooms were clean - AC was good in our room - just OK in kids room. Staff was constantly raking, scrubbing and cleaning up. My husband enjoyed the topless euro women! Lourds (spelling) was great - advising us what tours to take and not to drink the water! The Turinter people were great with getting us back and forth to the airport. Thanks for your help arranging the rooms. We'll definitely use Cheap Caribbean for our next vacation! The ride from San Jose airport to the Hotel was about 90 minutes, on a 2 lane road around and up and down the mountains. We were very happy with our room in Building 3. It over looked the pool and the ocean. We had a Hilton Honors Club card, which I believe helped us to get the upgrade to Building 3. You will find the service is excellent. We brought little gifts to leave for our room attendant. She was very happy with them. We left one each day on our bed. Most of the resort staff were very helpful and friendly. There was plenty of choices to eat at the buffet. The weather was very HOT and HUMID. I would guess it was in the high 90's every day. There was a beautiful breeze during the day and in the evening it go very still hot and humid. The ocean looked inviting, but very few people went in because it was so rough, and there was a lot of rocks. You will find there is volcanic ash in the water also, but it was an experience to see black, well brown sand. The food was OK. I am fussy, and I did find something I would enjoy at each meal. They had 2 restaurants. One was Italian (the food was delicious) the other was Fish (you would love it if you like sushi). You can only go to one of the specialty restaurants for each 3 days you stayed there. We've been on other Caribbean vacations and found that there was a refrigerator in the room and there was constant bottles of water and soda in our refrigerator. In this hotel the maid was suppose to leave 3 bottles of water daily, and you were suppose to refill them in the coolers on property. The casino was exceptionally tiny. There was no craps tables, the roulette table had a basket with balls that roll around, Kind of like playing Bingo in the US. You have to use their money in the casino. The machines don't take USD. A ship was in Port one day that we were there, so we took a taxi to the port to buy souvenirs. There was plenty of stands open. The coffee was very good. When we got to the airport we purchased some of the coffee, and was surprised to find there is at least 6 or more various types to buy. On and whole we did enjoy the trip and the experience, and would go back again.</text></testimonial><testimonial><id>1937</id><timestamp>08/22/08 1:55:02 AM</timestamp><text>Overall the property at Sandos Playacar Beach Resort was what I expected in some areas and disappointing in others. First let me start by saying I did not expect this to be a 5* resort and was looking forward to a fun 3* or 4* resort with my significant other and our 7 y.o son. We are from the San Diego area so we are accustomed to a beach environment but we must say the highlight of the vacation was the beach and the water. The water was wonderful, warm and turquoise blue and my son's favorite activity was laying in a foot of water at the edge of the beach and letting the waves roll him around. The large "sandbags" directly in front of the hotel were a source of entertainment as well. But most impressive was the stretch of beach heading south from the hotel. The beach was awesome and almost like a private beach that stretched for hundreds of yards. We all went for many walks and actually spent most of our beach time there. The various timeshare sales people and activity sales people were very much under control and may have been toned down some (especially the timeshare sales reps) by management and I was never approached by one of them. The activity sales people would ask if you were interested in parasailing or whatever and respect my answer of "no thank you".The on-site Cheap Caribbean Rep was very nice and helped me with a couple of bookings including a SCUBA trip to Cozumel and the Capt. Hook/Pirates of the Caribbean" Dinner Adventure which I highly recommend for families with kids - very exciting!!!!The Kids Club seemed OK although after the first day our son didn't want to go back and wanted to hang out with us on the beach. The food was reasonable and generally fresh. I loved the various juices, fruit and fresh omelets. Although the variety for breakfast was a little bit limited, people who like pancakes, French toast and cereal were in luck. A second omelets chef would have been helpful as the line was somewhat long at times. We're not a big sausage and bacon type of family and as long as all of us have a plate full of fruit we're happy. I especially liked the "green Health drink". Lunch generally had a variety of good food available especially at the main buffet. The poolside buffet was good as well but the main buffet was preferred by us.Dinner was fun as well although booking the specialty restaurants was challenging and despite showing up at 24 hours in advance at 7:45 AM we had difficulty getting reservations and had the sense that there must have been some type of preferred booking for dinner reservations that we didn't know about. Although the Asian Restaurant was readily available and was a 3* + dinner experience. The Steak House was also good and more like a 4* experience. The service was very good at both restaurants. The waiters were different and generally were very responsive to tipping and were very appreciative. The property landscaping and exterior of the buildings overall were well maintained and the staff generally friendly. Our experience was that despite tipping our housekeeping staff, our service and room condition was not all that good. On the first night we had no sheets for the pull out sofa for our son and had to wait 2 hours at 10;00PM and finally got them at midnight. On the 5th day we had to ask to have our room cleaned on several occasions and they finally came at 7:30 while we were at dinner.Even this "new" section seemed a little rough around the edges. Although the lobby was very nice, one of the step down pool hand rails was very loose and by the 4th day the lower part was completely disconnected. The curtains in our room were torn at the top and would not close all the way leaving about a one foot gap allowing the sun to stream in first thing in the AM. We requested to have it fixed and someone came to look at it but ultimately we resorted to safety pins to hold it closed. The room was very musty smelling although I understand this as this is a humid tropical climate and most likely unavoidable altogether. Several light bulbs were out and we requested to have them replaced. The shower had good water pressure but frequently threatened to overflow so we did our water conservation thing and would run water, shut it off while we were shampooing or soaping down.We made one attempt to have our room changed but were told that they were fully booked.Although our room location was a good 5 minute walk to the beach we didn't mind this at all as we like to exercise and it gave us a chance to see the property a little more (we're fast walkers). Golf cart shuttles are generally running but you need to know where the stops are.The highlights of this property clearly were the beach, the general location in Playacar right at the southern end of Playa Del Carmen, Playacar itself which is a very nice development of single family vacation homes and major resorts with the occasional sprinkling of smaller Mayan ruins and a fun little shopping area.Playa Del Carmen is also very accessible and fun to experience.W.S.</text></testimonial><testimonial><id>1936</id><timestamp>08/22/08 1:50:30 AM</timestamp><text>We just returned from our trip to Grand Cayman. We stayed right on Seven Mile Beach and enjoyed our beautiful beach view at each meal. The environment was friendly including the hotel's employees and the fellow travelers. The BCC's rooms were clean with good closet space. And, yes, the review advising to bring an extension cord for a hairdryer for the bathroom is right! We swam with the rays which was amazing and something not to be missed! kissing a ray gets 7 years of good luck and I'm enjoying my 7 years. The food at the BCC was basic: it was simple without all of the pomp and circumstance provided by a more elaborate restaurant. But I'd rather have a burger on the beach staring at the ocean than a visit to McDonald's anytime! We did venture to the Deckers across the street-fun atmosphere and a good band. We walked up the beach to the Reef which had a band on Thursday which was also good. Sad to see the BCC property turning into condos but glad to have enjoyed it in its simple fashion.</text></testimonial><testimonial><id>1935</id><timestamp>08/22/08 1:49:10 AM</timestamp><text>Hello,we just returned from the intercontinental playa bonita. It was wonderful-the mile long beach is amazing and the gym was great, food was great, hike/kayak in the jungle was great. We also went on a tour to see the embera indians which was a highlight of the trip. We absolutely loved our stay at this beautiful hotel and we recommend it to anyone.Sincerely,Rebecca Young</text></testimonial><testimonial><id>1934</id><timestamp>08/22/08 1:48:27 AM</timestamp><text>The vacation was everything that we expected and more. The hotel accommodations were acceptable and sufficiently comfortable; the amenities, such as Internet and television also though not exceptional were sufficient for when they were wanted and/or required. The food was good and with enough variance to allow for choices. But, the biggest enjoyment was the beach and the hotels location. The sand and the sea were by far the best weve encountered among many places in the Caribbean and Mexico that weve visited before, including Barbados, Mexico, Aruba, etc. There was never any problem with procuring a sun umbrella and there was always plenty of room on the beach. There was a small supermarket and an ice cream shop, as well as a number of restaurants within walking distance from the hotel that presented additional variety and complement or supplement to the food in the hotel restaurant.Simon Khelemsky</text></testimonial><testimonial><id>1933</id><timestamp>08/22/08 1:47:38 AM</timestamp><text>I had booked a vacation for two to the Cayman Islands for two staying at the Courtyard Marriott recently. I took my sister (along with 2 friends of ours) to beautiful Punta Cana, Dominican Republic to celebrate her recent college graduation. We stayed at the "Ocean Blue Golf &amp; Beach Resort" for 6 nights/7 days and had the most WONDERFUL time of our lives. The Resort staff was incredibly friendly and took great care of us. The Resort had a bevy of restaurants boasting different themes. We originally planned to try a different restaurant each night. However, the buffet was so delicious and had different options every day that we ended up eating there every single day. Outside of the resort we enjoyed the great excursions offered in the area. We went snorkeling and swam with sting rays and sharks! But, the best part of our trip had to be the 8+ hour long excursion with the "Funny Monster". That was probably the most exciting thing I've ever done. We took a tour throughout the beautiful Dominican countryside, visited a local family, went to a local/public beach, toured a cave, went horseback riding, and visited a school. Our tour guides were extremely friendly and exceptionally intelligent. In fact, our tour guide spoke 6 different languages. Dominican Republic is bar far my favorite place in the entire world. In fact, my friends and I are hoping to visit the DR annually!!! The service at the Rio Mar was excellent. We only had one minor flaw. the airline canceled our connecting flight from Miami to Puerto Rico the same day and we were not able to get on a flight until the next day at Two P.M. I was able to call cheap Caribbean to inform them of the changes and they called the hotel for me to ask them to hold the reservation. We did loose some time at the resort but when we got there and saw how beautiful it was. We also got upgraded to a suite witch made it even better. We had no problems in any of our return flight. We all wished we would of stayed longer. I have mention the great time we had to the rest of my family and we are all ready to book for next year. Thank you CheapCaribbean.com Cristina Lira</text></testimonial><testimonial><id>1921</id><timestamp>08/22/08 1:13:06 AM</timestamp><text>Booking with Cheap Caribbean was easy. Everything we coordinated through Cheap Caribbean went smoothly, especially our transfers to and from the hotel. We stayed at the Las Palmas in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. The resort was average. It was clean but we were disappointed that the second restaurant was not open for breakfast as indicated. Also, we were disappointed that, unlike other all inclusive resorts we have stayed at, we could not eat by the pool all food had to be consumed in the restaurant area. This was especially troublesome since at lunch there were not always enough seats available. I would not recommend Las Palmas to a friend, but I would recommend Cheap Caribbean</text></testimonial></testimonials>
